After much lurking on this i thought i might add that the third user picture on the Without Oil website looks to me like a picture of Ms McGonigal. (gala_teah I believe). Of course this is just an idle thought.
Another idle thought which is exciting for me is that this ARG looks like it might very well go down the path of Forum Theatre.. dont worry im not about to go into a big spiel about such practices, you can wiki it if youre interested im sure.
This sounds incredible, it was a bit disappointing that I missed ILoveBees but this sounds even better, can't wait until the game ramps up.
oh an if it's ok, i've added everyone who's mentioned a LJ or Vox blog as friends or in my neighbourhood, just to keep track of stuff.

I would LOVE to join in this. I've been reading over the source material uncovered so far, the wiki (nice wiki!) and all the rest.
I like the idea behind the game, too. I'm from Houston, TX, and I volunteered with the Katrina evacuees at the AstroDome and later went through the Rita evacuation (never again). I'll NEVER forget that autumn. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story portrays a sudden non-natural disaster on that sort of scale. I noticed the "remember > Katrina" note on the "Who Will Save Us?" rollover - I'm guessing that was one part of the PMs' inspiration for the plot.
Just a question - is it OK for me to add your (as in, all of you players') AIM/LJs/Voxes in addition to those of the characters? I'm not sure what is "form", since I'm still shiny new to the ARG world. Do you guys usually add each other to your "in-game" journals, and may I do so as well?
Hey all you do is you can either PM people on here and ask if it's ok if you add them or on lj you can do the same. I'm adding you btw... I don't have an in game journal on lj, I just have my normal journal that I put everything on. Oh and my AIM name is coffeenews18 everything else is coffeegirl18.

I am SO not on the ball when it comes to blogs et all. I just sort of click around and hope something neat happens.
I think I am on vox as wolfhawk
I think I am on livejournal as mistralwind76 (also my AIM name but I am very rarely on).
Hopefully, I will get some use out of them?
I'm pretty sure I requested some of the IG folks as friends. We'll see.
Looks like this will be good.

Auto Response from coffeenews18 (2:09:41 AM): Hey I'm off saving the world at the moment..
mPathytest (2:10:04 AM): (I like your away message!)
So yeah that was kind of funny to wake up to this morning...
My away message started with a bit of a reference to Heroes (also playing the 360 game btw) and ended up being a reference to both. I was trying to get a response from on of the characters...
Oh and Mpathy's away message...

dammit, can't sleep. something i read today... details straight out of one of Nico's scenarios. it's in the current issue of the Atlantic Monthly. http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200704/primarysources but I think they've got one part wrong. It's not 2014... it's April 30, 2007
So about the same thing but it says the day that the game starts. I haven't had time to read it so would someone try to find the article and what it's about. Some of the info looks like the research papers I have to read and analyse.
Yeah, I got that message too.

From the article:
Quote:
Iran's claim that it needs nuclear technology for power plants has always sounded fishy, not least because of the country's vast oil reserves. But a new analysis asks whether Iranian oil might run short sooner than we think. Estimates of Iranian oil exports project a decrease in coming years, and predicted growth in domestic demand for oil, coupled with the rate at which Iran is depleting its reserves, will necessitate an expansion of oil production. That will be difficult, however, since Iran's refineries are outdated and the government doesn't have the money to build new ones. The government subsidizes gasoline so heavily (Iranians pay only $0.34 a gallon) that the state could not hope to profit from costly renovation of its refineries, and its own officials claim it will be cheaper just to import gasoline and leave Iranian oil undisturbed under the earth. Unless Iran's oil sector becomes dramatically more efficient and the government warms to the possibility of exploration and extraction by foreigners, Iran could stop exporting oil as early as 2014—which means that when Iran claims to need nuclear know-how for its own power requirements, it just might be telling the truth.
mpathy's comment seems to be another reference to a world oil shortage on April 30, 2007... Iran would then stop exporting much earlier than 2014

Very exciting. That last bit of the article really gives you a glimpse into what is important for us to do in the next little while. I'm going to get AIM back onto my computer (something I should have done a long time ago).
Shall we get the ball rolling? the article really elaborates what we're supposed to do with the pre-game. Anybody been talking to characters over the last couple days?

Yip, it was plugged at ARGfest. We have high hopes for this one - lots of support behind it and very experienced PMs. (not a thick curtain though )
