The whois data says spy.co.uk was registered back in 1996 (or earlier), so I think this is just an intriguing coincidence. Interesting find, though.

This looks like it will be really fun. I followed along with the forums for the Vanishing Point game but never really thought to contribute since I came into it kind of late but I'm looking forward to this one. As an interesting side note, I go to college in boulder, co and got trapped in the denver airport for that very blizzard trying to get home...

So, I'm very new at ARGs and I read about WWO at www.pitchforkmedia.com, my apologies for any and all music snobbery!

I did some rudimentary exploratory googling on the name Nico and found a website called www.spy.co.uk within which I found this:

Communication, facilitation, research and consultancy around design and technology

Also included was the following, note the coincidental date:

Activities

I am interested in the nexus of design, business and technology, which is where real innovation takes place. My work combines the complementary activities of Communication (writing, speaking and broadcasting), Facilitation (programming events and interactions), Research and Consultancy (focusing on online publishing and design strategy, and collaboration models).

Monday 30April 2007 At the Innovation Reading Circle 04: The Media and the public we will discuss We the Media: Grassroots Journalism by the People, for the People by Dan Gillmor (O'Reilly, 2006). The event is kindly supported by O'Reilly and hosted by Agency.com in London.

Finally, check out what the Innovation Reading Circle is all about:

Quote:
Some of the questions that we plan to discuss include:

How real is the phenomenon of citizen journalism?
Would citizen journalism have taken off if the Web had been prevalent in the '50s?
How has, and is, the relationship of the public and the media changing?
How has, and is, the role of journalism changing?
What are the dynamics driving citizen journalism and 'user-generated content'?
Why has the media sector been so receptive to, and un-critical of, 'user-generated content'?

Clearly the above could be entirely coincidental and mistaken links drawn by me, but its nonetheless interesting.

My sincere apologies if this has already been posted, I ran a search and it didn't turn anything up.

Illiana

Illiana's responded to my comment in his LJ blog a few days back. (the one about the wintery spring) He's also posted a link to a climate change article. Since I'm in the same general geographic area, I've taken to writing him. I'm very curious if I'll get a response to my latest email:

Hi. Me again.

As I was driving to work this morning (fearing how much longer I will
be able to use those words...) it occurred to me that it may be useful
to change your group name. '8TSOC' is definitely descriptive of the
goal you original eight have if the 'oil shock' does indeed hit.
However, it does not flow as if 'pronounced trippingly on the tongue'.
I don't say this in a silly or lighthearted manner. If you want to
reach as many people as possible, it will be critical to have a name
to rally around - that's easy to remember, and which makes all the
right associations.

I'm extremely serious. We will soon need to get as many people as
humanly possible both involved and interested. Marketing this is
critical, especially from the beginning.

I suggest 'SAFE' (Solidarity Amid the Fuel Emergency)

It provides the image of safety and security I fear people will soon
be yearning for.
It indicates that we will need to pull together for this.
It avoids limiting interest to our own country. Any oil crisis will
inevitably become a world crisis.
It's easy to remember.

While I'm simply a librarian, and no professional marketing guru, I
strongly believe this is important. I'm also not a graphics guy.

I desperately hope this impending doomsday scenario will in fact not
play out. If it does, however, we need to be prepared.

So... if electricity is dependent on oil... how are we going to be blogging?

Also, I'm Isaac Asimov apparently. Not surprising, since he's one of my favorite authors. Razz

EDIT: Ok, so I did just a little research, and electricity isn't totally dependent on oil, but maybe we'll get to have cool stories about blackouts and brownouts at least. Razz

What does your inner SF author have to do with anything WWO-related? If there's one thing ARGs have taught me, it's that PMs never put anything in that they don't have to.

So, what's up with that?

My feeeling was that it may be used to help set the initial group divisions to allow for players to split into groups to explore and focus on certain theories to share with the group as a whole.

Ahhh... this looks like an amazing way to get back in the ARG world. (The only one I've ever done was the Ben Stove one)

I've joined every possible website remotely related to this game. My username for anything is PoeticExplosion, except for yahoo instant messenger and AIM, where my name is Gurrtin.

Feel free to add me on any website you like. Razz

From my conversation with mpathy, I felt like they were suggesting that they will perhaps pick one person for each Sci fi writer depending on your answers.
Hense why they asked for you to post results in their journal.

mPathytest : Excellent. And whisper just who your SF alter ego was to me when you have a chance (maybe post it on my blog) I think that will be an intereresting way to classify how we each might be able to pitch in when the time comes...

I read somewhere they were going to get people to write blogs etc and I assumed it would be related to that.

I hope im making sense lol

I just took it as character development. It gives us something to compare these characters to, and allows us to see how they relate to eachother.

Then again... There could be something more there. Hm.

Look! it's an ARG that appeals to my tree-hugging, Bush-burning alter ego!

I am SO in, especially if it was made by teh same person that did Bees. (Which was my brother's obsession, which got me in to Args.. etc)

Woo Im back! Ive been stuck in the middle of a field in Wales for a week so couldnt post this:

I got a reply to my comment from illianaspeedstr on mpathytest's live journal.

http://mpathytest.livejournal.com/1241.html?thread=2777#t2777

(Im Operation_filth)

The subject says TANSTAAFL! which apparently means:

There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch

I wasnt sure if it was relavent or not, or if anyone else recieved a reply from anyone, so I thought I'd post it!

Edit for obligatory wiki link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TANSTAAFL

Edit from the black lagoon: I just realised why TANSTAAFL is relavent, It was first coined by Science fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein *slaps self*

I'm officially interested. Can't wait, so I've already made my LJ and Vox accounts.
