The Thing cannot be described - there is no language for such abysms of shrieking and immemorial lunacy, such eldritch contradictions of all matter, force, and cosmic order. A mountain walked or stumbled.

there's another one but I could be too enthusiastic on that one :

In the elder time chosen men had talked with the entombed Old Ones in dreams, but then something happened. The great stone city R'lyeh, with its monoliths and sepulchres, had sunk beneath the waves; and the deep waters, full of the one primal mystery through which not even thought can pass, had cut off the spectral intercourse. But memory never died, and the high-priests said that the city would rise again when the stars were right.

Welcome to all the new people! This is only my second game, so I know exactly how you feel. Don't worry, it'll be fun.
I've been doing some playing around with the I Ching and the numbers. We have so far the I Ching hexagrams numbered:
1, 3, 6, 9, 11, 12
The speculation is that the numbers following the I Ching names refer to Page Number, Line, and Letter. Here are the numbers in the order of their I Ching names, and the letters they would represent if the above theory is correct:
1) R = 5, 1, 6
3) R = 335, 20, 25
6) I = 95, 35, 11
9) G = 35, 35, 26
11) ? = 55, 14, 2
12) ? = 245, 3, 10
One thing of note is that first number of every series ends in a 5, and as I was looking through the page numbers of the torn pages, a disproportionate number of those end in 5 as well.
Also, is 12 too large of a number? Could there be 12 packages out there?

Hello,
I've never done this before, though I've wanted to. So here's hoping I can help out and be on board! I've called the number and left my phone number. When I get back from dinner, I'll pore over all these posts and see if there is any info I can add! It seems there are Things Man Was Not Meant To Know!

But, like bagsbee, as New York is the center of the media universe, I expect something to be held here every game.
But, but, but, LAS VEGAS is the party town! There should be more live events in LAS VEGAS. Who doesn't want to come to LAS VEGAS?????

Hi folks, I hope I'll be able to play this ARG!
I did a reverse phone lookup for (321) 249-0216, B.A. Saint Feline may live in Cassadaga ( from Wikipedia, the "Psychic Center of the World" ), the phone line is in Sanford, FL ..
I had no idea that HP Lovecraft was buried in Providence. I guess I could take a gander out to the Swan Point cemetery at lunchtime if the game called for it. Thursday, perhaps, I could see if there is anything left there as a kloo.

Woohoo! I've been wanting to get back into ARGs, and this one looks promising! I'm definitely on-board.
So I called and left a message... but er, that machine is a little too short to leave any dreams on, don't you think? It cut me off in the middle of telling her my number. Hopefully she's got it now....
Looking forward to more info from those of you lucky enough to get packages.

aw, the zoo would have been nice to visit during argfest... but a weekend doesn't suffice. *sniff*
As for craigslist, is there no way to search the entire catalogue, not just be city? google would be most helpful there, but it seems we know for a fact we can't trust that it's spidered all the recent items.

In brushing up on my Lovecraft history, I found this pull-quote in the wikipedia article (from "Call of Cthulu") and found that the irony amused me, considering what it is that we gather here to do - piecing together dissociated knowledge.
Quote:
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.
And like Lovecraft's characters, we too are inevitably compelled to piece things together.
