Do you mean the truck siren in the beginning, or the car alarm at the end? I've definitely heard both in NYC.

Also, I think it's obvious that the lady in the youtube video = http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w222/Iniscool/04-opr-sinoil.jpg. Are we all on the same page about that? If so, that'd lend credibility to my gut reaction - that this is NYC.

My first reaction was NYC, but the siren sounding in the background suggest otherwise, not that it couldn't have been added to the audio track.

Well, here's the UK embassy website:
www.kyrgyz-embassy.org.uk

And the US embassy website:
www.kyrgyzembassy.org

And the Tourism bureau:
http://www.kyrgyzstan.org/

Should we start making phone calls?

And talked to Yucky Muck about it:

Quote:
me: Did you see the video?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xq1WheazY4
yuckymuck: of what?
me: It seems to be a message to Nico - telling him to go back home. Wherever that is.
yuckymuck: No way what?
me: And the woman in the video mentions Grace and her mom, by name.
Yeah. It's crazy.
yuckymuck: WTF??
watching...
Who the hell is she?
we'll be very generous in compensation? bloody hell, WTF??
what is she saying?
me: I think she's the woman from Nico's photos.
And I don't know what the other language is. But it's not Russian.
I took some film classes, so I wrote a shot-by-shot and posted it on my LJ.
I don't know if that'll help.
yuckymuck: whre the * did you find this????
me: Someone IMed it to me about... twenty minutes ago.
they said they were searching youtube for oil related stuff. and Denver airport related stuff.
and this came up under nico.
yuckymuck: how is grace, holy crap, i gotta go talk to Sharon
me: i also notice it's been posted under 8tsoc.
Sharon didn't go, did she?
yuckymuck: thanx man, bye
me: yeah. go take care of her.
yuckymuck's new status message - Plotting world domination takes a lot of my time. 12:19 AM

A Russian friend watched it and confirmed that it was not Russian. They actually felt that it wasn't Slavic at all. I wonder if it's Middle Eastern. (It's not Hebrew.) I also did a quick shot-by-shot, which I posted on my LJ. It's as close to a transcript as I could do, and I omitted all the foreign language shots for obvious reasons. You can read that here: http://wwo-mordy.livejournal.com/2089.html

I think we need a translation. Also, a read on the car would be nice (any car people around here?). At some point, I'll analyze my transcript for hints (some ready ones: she removes her sunglasses during the foreign language part, we have some location hints, we might be able to figure out whether she took the footage herself or if someone took it of her, etc).

Really good find - both the video & the pic for comparison. So now the plot thickens, Nico is on "vacation" and is obviously from a foreign country (or is a foreign operative), being called back home (in).

I posted the link on the WWO community LJ in a comment under Graces Mom's latest entry Smile

re: how I found the vid - was just playing with my youtube account and did a quick tag search for worldwithoutoil, and there were only two, chuckles' plan and this one

re: the same person at photobucket as in video - her hair is somewhat shorter, but it certainly looks like her otherwise, yes.

youtube vid

i'm always nervous when I post in case something's been raised before! so apologies in advance, but haven't seen video 'hello nico' listed anywhere yet:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xq1WheazY4

it was added april 23, so its pretty recent, and pretty interesting. she sounds russian, location looks asian.

found it on a tag search on youtube for worldwithoutoil & its from user http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=everySunday

now we just need to find nico so we can tell him...

edit: completely off topic, but is anyone else struck by the amount of gregory benford's there are? i wonder if that says anything about people who play args?

So I'm Abilor, and I figure I'd rather post than lurk. This is actually my first ARG that I'm directly participating in, though I'm familiar with the concepts involved (enough to want to play). I'm still getting caught up on the 8TSOC and the huge amount of IG material, so thanks to all of you who've made it easier. Nothing really to contribute, other than hello and hope to scratch heads together.

Welcome to WWO. If you need any help or are wondering how we found some info or anything feel free to PM me. Oh and get Livejournal and AIM if you haven't already, they're used a ton.
