Initial Google hits on 'best of what's around' all point to the Dave Matthews Band album. Go on, someone crack that email code with a cypher based on a famous rock band. Wink

well that blew that theory. maybe sni is the initials for the last project? Bang Head

Another thing we need to remember is the double letters Jeff kept using. I think they were A T E C

I do remember they said they worked in avionics and something about a piece in another piece, something for the DoD. could it be a camera in one of those drone spy planes? and let's don't forget the JASON thing. Back to doing more research.

the "best of what's around" reminds me of the one with the morse code that said

Quote:
You took the pill Jeff, good. Yes, I am watching. You better find more. "Use what you have." You owe me what I want and I will show you life.
I took the "use what you have" to mean the morse code that we used to get the bullerman.net and/or the map. So, I guess the "best of what's around" might mean the E4 A6 D8... that we have, the map and the co-ordinates.

Got an e-mail back from Steve. The name on the e-mail was Steve Chambers.

Quote:
Hi Ariana,

Thanks for all your help. Jeff and I are in regualr contact and he has shared everything you've found. I know we will be together this weekend, looking for another pill.

Daniel L. Bullerman is not a name I recognize, I just searched the company directory and it does not show up. So I can tell you he does not work here. I do work with someone with the initials JB, but I believe he is completely unrelated. Just a co-op here. Can't be the same JB. It may take me a while but I can search the company database and return a list of everyone with JB initials.

My initials are SIC. I am trying to dig up information as to what Jeff was last working on and I will send that information as soon as I find something significant. Mainly checking our video library here at work. What my project is..... I can't directly say, but I will be able to sneak out small bits of information as I have done once before.

Let me know if you need anything else. We'll just keep trying to make the best of what's around.

Steve

[EDIT] The "best of what's around" was in fact italicized in the e-mail.

It also (apparently) doesn't have anything to do with the digits of pi.

I was thinking that it might just be the route to getting the password for the website (271314, which is how I got on pi) which we already got -- or did this come AFTER the blowup?

Shoot. I just e-mail Steve and forgot to ask him about his first project. So if someone wants to shoot over that e-mail, be my guest.

Wow, a lot has happened in a couple days. Good to know we're finishing this thing.

Now on the false hex code, I looked at how sylvia arranged it and I also saw this pattern here:

Code:

E4 A6 D8
A4 D6 E8
D5 E6 A8
A4 D6 E8

4, 6, 8 seems to be a pattern, but the D in line three has a 5. What also strikes me as odd is that it looks like a simple factorial pattern for the first three lines, but then repeats line two. Don't know any of this has been noticed yet, trout me if I'm being redundant!

BTW, there's no way these are chords. There are no "8"s (EVER) and rarely are there "4"s.

Chess boards are 8x8, and this is often how moves are said, but I plotted the places on a board and they are somewhat random. This and the fact that the last line repeats leads me to think that they do not refer to a chess board.

Other than this I really don't know what else it could be. The map thing has occurred to me, but I don't know what these would apply to. (Not much of a cryptographer either...)

EDIT: ASCII code is gibberish as well after looking at petunia's post a while back.

I'll e-mail Steve with some of those questions. And yeah, it seems pretty obvious that the initials could be Steve's. Don't know why that didn't cross my mind before...

The SNI might be Steve's initials. idk. And I'm pretty sure there was never a mention of "the first project they were on together." But it seems that we need to find out asap. One of you, who has been in contact with Steve should try to find out his full name and if SNI is him find out what that project was.

I really think Steve is working both sides of the fence. IMO, he is being paid handsomely by JB to get info, etc. for him but at the same time wants to help us help Jeff. (take that with a grain of salt, it may be way off base.)

Also, see if he knows anything about Daniel L. Bullerman.

Note: you guys don't really have to do all that unless you want to. I just needed to use this post as a sound board to get my thoughts down before they are forever "Gone With The Wind."

You guys have come up with some interesting ideas on "E4A6D8A4D6E8D5E6A8A4D6E8." I'm going to be looking into it a little deeper today. Do we know exactly were Jeff is living now? If he is close enough maybe we need to get him to take his camera and get as close to Duane Arnold and/or the spot at the marsh as possible and see if there is anything that could help point us in the right direction.

OT: on the TRAILHAED thing. Someone please change it to TRAILHEAD. thanks

That code looks like base 64 but you get nothing out of it, maybe that decimal can be converted into ascII or maybe it's octal?

It's from an email miki_38x1 got on Wednesday:

EDIT: Just got this email from Steve. Since I don't have that advanced cypher program (accursed mac) can someone decode it for me?

We ran it through Advanced Cypher, and ended up with the hex-looking code mentioned above.

Its CLEARLY hex once you convert it...

See, I'm not sure. If you started with a decimal or binary number, the chances of the hex equivalent being a string of letter-number-letter-number all the way through like that are really tiny. Which leads me to believe each pair is significant.

Also, as Sylvia pointed out earlier, if you split 24 digits into groups of 6, each group has one instance of E, A and D. I can't think what coordinate or code system would use those three letters though.

Sylvia's arrangement:

Code:
E A D
4 6 8

A D E
4 6 8

D E A
5 6 8

A D E
4 6 8

Hi, just poking my head in here, I've been casually lurking this one but I just noticed that the sequence A4D6E8 shows up twice in this code. So maybe it's meant to be broken up like so:

E4A6D8 A4D6E8 D5E6A8 A4D6E8 which would give 14984920 10802920 14018216 10802920 in decimal

or it could be E4 A6 D8 A4 etc. which would give 228 166 216 164 214 232 213 230 168 164 214 232. This was probably said before, but I don't remember seeing the first possibility mentioned. Anyway it's interesting that the numbers in the hex are so similar, definitely some kind of pattern there - only A, D, E in the letters, and 4,6,8 with one 5 thrown in.
