I just received a reply from Port. I've spent the past couple of emails re-establishing communication with him, as he doesn't seem to recall much about speaking with me. When asked about the package I received from him - he said that he never sent that. When he was arrested "<snip>the book, and my ring were taken from me. I watched as someone walked it over to a dark-tinted suburban and gave it to someone inside. That was the last time I saw it<snip>". His memory also is missing a lot of things, as you can see according to his blog - mainly he's missing all of his memories of Jenny. I've tried dropping a few subtle clues about Jenny, to jog his memory. He remembers events that involved her directly - but now seems to have no knowledge of her being there. In a conversation about A, B, and C - he remembers A and C.
