Actually, it is helpful. I think the more information we can gather about the exterior of the Institute, the more information we can provide Port and get him through it.

Hopefully we can get a little more information about the inside of the institue now that we have a "contact" on the inside. I'll try and compose an email to Jenny to see what info she can give us that will help Port and Rage get inside. Guard movements, dark corners, shift changes, etc.

I actually kind of like this idea. I'm sure there will be some reason why it can't happen, but I like it nonetheless. A whole lot better than the idea that some government moron's activated this Cuban and someone, be it Port or Bricker or my ex-boyfriend (actually I might be okay with that last one), is on the chopping block.

Also, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Rage have Starr's phone now?

I fired an email off to Rage, informing him of Jenny's wishes. Now to wait for a response.

I essentially told him what Jenny said, and I asked him to take Port with him into the Institute, as frankly, who's better at getting into and out of places he's not supposed to be than Rage?

Michael,

I'm afraid that I am quite in the dark regarding outside events at the moment. Beginning when I last spoke to Bernie there has been a marked reduction in visitors and since the first week of June I have seen no one except for my assistant. I am absolutely sick over the possible loss of Bernie as I am the one who sent him out to locate Detective King initially, which now seems to have begun a chain of events that doesn't bode well for any of us. Although it is important to me that I visit with Detective King and would appreciate you coordinating that, it is crucial that I meet with this Arlen Rage as soon as possible.

Please help me.

Apparently Jenny isn't aware of the doc's predicament - in not being able to leave DC. It seems strange she wouldn't know that. You should probably break the news to her.

Just fired off an email to Jenny...

Quote:

Jenny,
Well I am glad to finally make contact with you, but I hate to be the bringer of bad news. Trying to contact Dr. Starr might not be the best of things to do. You see, we were in contact with him a while ago. He was insturmental in getting Port accross the country and in to relative safety (for now). Dr Starr went to DC I beleive and has not returned. We fear the worst. Below is a copy of a text message conversation between one of my friends, Courtney (in blue) and whom ever has Dr. Starr's phone (in red). He claims his name is Chuck.

(707): I really would have thought a guy like Starr would have a nicer phone.

(952): Who the hell are you? Where is Starr?

(707): Starr is busy and it really doesn't matter who I am.

(952): Actually, it does. Identify yourself or give the phone back to Starr.

(707): Hm. I tried to hand the phone to him but it kept falling on the floor. Go figure. My name is Chuck, but I doubt if that helps you much!

(952): What?? What did you do to him?

(707): Sorry baby, I've got other things to do now. TTFN

There have been other conversations with "Chuck" but I would have to dig through our records to find them. Also I beleive most of the watchers are no longer around due to our sometime "friend" Arlen Rage. I beleive you met him in a "past" life. Ice blue eyes, covered in tattoos, can be very cranky at times, very skilled with a gun. So I guess we are going to be looking for other options.

I am overjoyed to be hearing from you Schwinn. I was hopeful but unsure that my message was getting out. You see, I have to depend on all types of human factors and communicating with your group is a bit like manipulating a spider web where each strand of silk has its own will and agenda.

Welcome to the world of the Brightman Oracle.

I am pleased that you are in contact with Detective King, I so long to be near him again. If you contact Dr. Bernard Starr at (707) 758-xxx and tell him who you are, he will undoubtedly figure out how to get Port over to see me.

I await news from you and please know that you are making a tremendous difference by choosing to become involved.

Hi,
Sorry if this email has reached you in error. I am trying to contact Jenny Chamberlain, I am an associated with Portnoy King. I understand that you wish to speak with him. We, my associates and I, are trying to make that happen. Of course your unusual housing arrangments and location make that a somewhat difficult task. We have made some headway, but we still need to make transportaion and access arrangments. Anyhelp that you may provide on your end would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you.

You were right on. I double checked the website I was using http://myfreemailsearch.com - it returns any gmail accounts to Mountain View, CA, including my own. It did do something interesting tho - it grabbed a snippet of something I posted in the forums here, associating it to my email.

So essentially that tells us nothing. I did find jchamberlainSPLATgmail.com - but that's registered to some guy in VA. It seems to be a helpful tool, kinda - but won't really give us a lot of info.

For what it's worth, i found a gmail address theoracleSPLATgmail.com - and apparently the email originated/was created/is being used in Mountain View, CA - which is of course, just south of San Fran.

I haven't tried emailing it yet - work is keeping me occupied today.

AHA! I knew I wasn't (completely) crazy! I kept remembering someone mentioning their experience in getting in to see the Oracle. What kept standing out to me in my mind was the person thinking about the sensation of fire ants, and Jenny voicing the thought.

Turns out it wasn't TGATT at all, but the archived Brightman Oracle blog stuff on the Wiki! From the Wednesday, September 10, 2008 entry:
Quote:
First, walking up to the Institute is a disorienting experience.

Perhaps it's from the boat ride, or walking through the mist from the old, creaky dock and having this old stone, stronghold materialize as you get closer - walls reaching silently up into the fog.

And then there's the dichotomy of the front entrance; all rough-hewn timber and hammered iron strapping…controlled by an electronic card reader and surrounded by little weather-proof bubble cameras.

And when the door opened to me for the first time and the Institute swallowed me, my life was changed forever.

Koley produced a card from somewhere within the tactical pockets and slid it through the reader, causing the ancient-looking door to swing open silently, as if by magic. I was immediately faced with basically a SWAT team, all positioned behind gunnery slots in the stone entryway.

"Don't go and crap your pants," Koley said. "They'll do that every time you open that door. Get used to it."

I asked why. Why did this place even exist?

"Follow me," is all he said.

In the locker room, a couple of other guards greeted me, heckled Koley, and then told me to take my shirt off. Fully expecting some hazing experience - and knowing that it was inevitable - I stripped off my shirt.

"This," A black guard named Cooper said as he held up a small yellow box surrounded by a tangle of black wires. "Is the Bumblebee."

He proceeded to smear cold blobs of gel onto my skin and meticulously attached all of the electrodes before strapping the yellow box to my chest.

"What the hell is this?" I asked, half-smiling…half scared shitless now.

"Anybody who sees The Oracle wears it," He smiled. "It has three settings. Hurt. Serious pain. And Dead. If you raise your voice you get Hurt. If you throw anything or act aggressive in any way you get Serious pain. If you get up from the chair that you will be sitting in, you get Dead. And don't speak until spoken to. Got it?"

All I could do was nod.

Helpful? Not really. Confused Then again, I never claimed to be helpful, just a determined little pest.

Schwinn: Y'know, I was wondering that when they were first posted... but since the 'contact me' part was posted by WTH, that's why I ended emailing Hatch that time.
Anyway. Will try a couple of email combinations and see what I end up with.

I could have sworn there was a mention of a keycard being used at Brightman, but now that I'm looking for it, I can't seem to find it in order to quote it. Bang Head

As for "the Cuban", there is a brief mention here:
Quote:
"Who would've thought?" Goran shook his head. "I mean, an old washed-up rent-a-cop outgunning those two? I definitely wouldn't have put money on that."
"I'm thinking of calling the Cuban?"
"Well now hold on," Goran pulled out a handkerchief and cleaned his glasses. "Let's look for the opportunity here. King used to work organized crime, so he'll be expecting us to send in somebody else, right? And Fitch and Brackin no doubt asked about the girl…I mean, it's not like King would just start shooting at federal agents just because they knocked on his door. I say we have a great chance at finding the girl if we can just locate King. He's going to be under pressure, expecting another hitter, and in a hurry to warn the girl if he knows where she is. Or finding her if he doesn't. If he gets killed, we're back to square one.
"I'd call Penderghast and tell him to back off once they locate King. Just tail him and maybe get a shot at solving two problems at once."
