Ah yes...it seemed that there was some expectation that I'm Sorry was the first indication that The Largest Most Complex ARG in the History of the World had been lanuched. This was news to me and I was actually pretty surprised to see just how many links DreamsEnd was able to draw between I'm Sorry and the whole Theresa Duncan, Ong's Hat, Matheny mess. It affected the game because I wasn't prepared to counter it initially and I think it turned a lot of people off and created a paranoia that really affected the game during the start-up. Two of the five computers that I used were hacked during that time - creating quite a bit of trouble and costing some money for IT support. At that point I thought about throwing in the towel but then decided to just get defiant and motor through it.
Brian Bricker! High Five(r) to you friend! You did a great job with allowing that to not derail your project, and also using it to also let it add an extra layer to the conspiracy elements that were involved with the game over all.
Obviously, you probably can't discuss where that came from (did they even explain?), or why they jumped on your game, instead of any others, but all I can say is thank you for letting the barriers blur between your "reality" of I'm Sorry and the Real Life reality that you were dealing with. [Been there, got the t-shirt as to nefarious aspects of RL sifting into a game and not really knowing how to advise people playing that they might indeed be monitored by people that had nothing to do with the actual game.]
Over all, the story was amazing, the follow through on each and every detail was so well executed and I love the fact that you went so far as to set up a lot of physical locations to play a part in the game, if anyone should have happened to be able to go there.
Once I read what you posted here - that in real life Brian Bricker would have reported his copyrighted work being used without his permission - that whole piece of this game makes extraordinary sense! While I did not support that aspect at the time, I don't really know that you had another option as to a way to work around it. . . . Well, especially when I think about the fact that you also had real life hackers that may have intended to use other aspects of the game that also belonged to you, as the creator.
Thank you for a very intense and interesting game and for carrying it through, even though you had a lot of things to struggle against.
I have to ask though - did the artist in San Francisco that Arlen Rage was following on Twitter, and who's website revealed a phone number, know she was part of I'm Sorry? Ever since that night said to myself "What the hell, I have a number..." and called her, I have wondered if that woman had any idea she was mentioned in an ARG at all. LOL

Oh, I forgot to mention there's an Annabel Lee tavern in MD. Although I feel like we might have touched on that a long time ago.
Schwinnnnnnnnnnnn.

Completely true. I was a tattoo artist from about 1991-1995. Total coincidence that my fuzzy Chinese can be interpreted in a way that fit the game. There were a lot of those funny coincidences, huh?

For some reason I always thought it was Rage and Jenny in the poem... since it was the Arlen Rage blues.. and Jenny was thrown up into a tower basically.
Also, SECRETZ?

Oh holy fuck, really?! And here I thought that code hidden in the HTML was just 'part of the game'...

Classical. Like I hinted in Portland, King was me. I lived through the 'dandelion film' moment and quickly escaped into law enforcement...and most of Port's thoughts and feelings were mine. Only difference is that I ended up working for a sheriff's department and then Lucas rather than becoming a detective in New Jersey!
And now onto textbooks! Quite a variety. Is that story about you being a tattoo artist and retouching the old tattoo of yours you told us in Portland also true? And that we keep reading the middle symbol as 'small animal' or 'rabbits' or thereabouts just a coincidence?
It is both amusing and vaguely depressing to know that I am not the only one who has something against dandelions.
Um, insofar as 'One For The Brood', Annabel Lee keeps reading as Annabella (i.e. Bella King) to me. But I have no reasoning for that other than the names look the same and I may or may not have spent all day pouring over the manuscripts again, so that's stuck on my mind. (is classi working on something secret? perhaps perhaps)

Just to be crystal clear to any mods out there - this game is over. I am not posting to a thread for an active game. 3viL is simply kicking around one of the puzzles that was never solved!
Thanks!

The Arlen Rage Blues

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love -
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulcher
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me
Yes! that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we
Of many far wiser than we
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.
For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride,
In the sepulcher there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

ARG Research
Hi guys
I've been lurking in this game a bit here and there and also met up with Classical, Wulf and Brian in Portland. (I hosted the panel where Brian was a guest). I wish I had played "I'm sorry" from the start but only learned about it when the game thread got taken off and the meta started. And then it was impossible to jump in because things have already gotten so twisted!
I'm interested in the pushing boundaries topic, and if you guys would like to share your experiences then I'd be more than happy.
And... my condolences to you all that this game is over. I've been crying my heart out for my top favorite ARG before... and kudos to you Brian to make this game so dear to these players. I'm super curious for your future projects and hope to hear about them too!

Thinking about it, I think we missed a lot of the clues because we didn't know how far we were supposed to go. Most games (in my opinion) usually spell out "GO HERE" or "GO THERE" or "YOU'RE ACTUALLY SUPPOSED TO DO THIS IN REAL LIFE". Not exactly like that, of course but.. They usually don't leave much room for interpretation. For instance, when people played Cassieiswatching and there was a drop made, everyone knew they had to go get it because.. well.. the PM made a video of themselves putting the drop in the pond. Or in Jejune.. people knew they were supposed to go to a specific building because.. that's pretty much all the clues they were given. "Here's an address, if you want to know more.. come by during these hours.
I think a lot of times we were worried about what was REALLY REAL and what wasn't. Like, whether we should contact you.. or whether that would mess up the game... or if we would end up finding out something we weren't supposed to.. or perhaps end up annoying some person who had no idea what was going on.
I guess since we didn't follow all the way through on some of the hints you dropped, we kind of missed out on a little bit. I know some of us definitely felt like something was missing on some parts you mentioned us not figuring out. We basically ended up doing a lot of research on whatever you mentioned but completely missed finding the actual clues you left. Hahaha.
Not that I blame you, or us for that. I'm Sorry pushed a lot of boundaries for a lot of people. Frankly, I prefer your method.. even though we missed a bit... I feel like we would have lost the immersion if you pointed anything out to us.

For Munki...I don't think that I personally am really important in any of this...but...my name is Brian Bricker, I write emergency medical textbooks (mostly instructor resources), I manage a bunch of people at an emergency medical helicopter service, I've been happily married for 17 years, I have three kids, I used to work in radio broadcasting, I was a security supervisor for George Lucas, I grew up in the San Francisco bay area, and once owned a home in Norman, Oklahoma. But I think you already somehow knew all of that.
As for the puzzles and stories that never really got opened, I'm going to save those for the future. (Not for I'm Sorry 2, so don't worry Classical!) But I will disclose that there used to be a clue on the display of Hitler's mirror at the 45th Infantry museum...and I had people prepared to provide clues at the restaurant in Bolingbrook, IL. Oh...and I really went to Phoenix and was expecting Classical or Wulf to call my real cellphone (they both have it from Portland) and I would have coordinated a meet/drop there.
But...if you're still really jonesing for a bit of I'm Sorry fun, you can still try to solve One For The Brood..., although the blog is gone, you still have enough of it here in the forums to proceed.
Finally, Munki, I'm not going anywhere. I'm pretty sure that you'll see my writing/characters in other games.
ALL: I really appreciate all of your kind words about I'm Sorry, they are helping now that I, too, am withdrawing due to the sudden absence of the world that we have all lived in for the past five months.
(Edit for grammar)

How many people worked on this? Was it just you or were there others?
It was just me. I reached out to a lot of resources around the country to coordinate some things for me...but for better or worse, all of the writing, interaction, chats, e-mails, drop-design, graphics, websites and texts were all me.

What happened with "Eric is missing" angle.
Had that been pursued more, there was a tangent about the company that Rage hired to help him run The Game in SF, Buffalo and Omaha. It was basically a group of techie/arg dudes who got in wayyyy over their heads. Was fun.

When the thread was pulled by "Ron" how much did you run by the Admins/mod of this site?
None. Which didn't go over too well in that particular circle. Since Bricker would have demanded that his copyrighted material be removed from this kooky site...Bricker did that. You guys forced my hand! And it created a bit of anger in the upstairs offices of unficiton with that move. I have to thank SpaceBass and Addlepated for understanding the situation and ultimately giving you the thread back.
Damn, it sounds like we really missed quite a bit. I don't suppose there's any chance of actually getting a chance to see all of it?
The one thing I do find cool - is even though parts of the story weren't pursued or revealed, each time you mention them it ends with something like "way fun". Even though you never revealed it to anyone, you got a kick out of it. Now that's.... i dunno what that is... perfect achievement? being happy with oneself enough to be able to appreciate what you've done - without the need for acceptance of others?
