And here it is. I saw it in 3D, which involved hilarious, gratuitous, foreground desert cacti.

And still three. Here are your stars, I think this might start being more guessable now. I think this lady is best described as luminous *sigh*.
[EDIT] Will give the US some time to wake up and then another still and a hint in a bit.

It isn't Gene Hackman. New still when I get back to the pc, but a hint in meantime. The screenwriter, who wasn't credited, is my favourite author.

Man in bed with bandages on his eyes always makes me think of The Day of the Triffids, as do people falling off a train. I really don't remember a sub though, so this is a stab (or enormous whip-like tongue/stamen) in the dark.

Don't know what about catherwood's post made me flash on it, but let's try another tack.
How about the 1971 version of, "Zeppelin"?
ETA:
It's weird... But I know that I saw ads for a movie called, "Graf Zeppelin" back in the day and now, I can't find a reference to it, anywhere. I remember it being a disaster flick like, "Poseidon Adventure". I guess I either dreamt it or am like Peter on Fringe.

Nope, not Peppard.

catherwood
the big scenes are of no help to me. I thought the actors faces would have brought more guesses by now, as it's the only thing remotely searchable. I thought the guy on the left looked like George Peppard -- no one rocks a cropped set of bangs like that dude -- but while he has a ton of movies listed in IMDB, he usually plays army roles. The horn on the wall to the right of that picture makes me think this is a sea-faring adventure. (The hat probably should tell me it's navy, but I wouldn't swear by it.) And I suppose I should recognize that actor, but he's got a "hey, it's that guy" kind of face.
Going back a page to the guages, it makes me think more of submarines, but again I couldn't swear to that being an educated guess at all. Ocean liner? Neither fits well with the last two pictures. Oh well.
So, just tell me if that's George Peppard or not and I'll keep digging.
