I haven't noticed anything different on the websites and they haven't e-mailed me since July 11th. I hope they're just preparing because I'd really like to get admitted.

On July 9th, I e-mailed Andrew Miller about admitting myself (I e-mailed the admissions address a few days earlier and didn't get a reply) and got this response from him on July 11th:

Dear *****,
I am truly sorry about the delay in getting back to you -- truth to be told, this has been a very busy week at the Hanwell Mental Institute.
You are already on our list and we will be more than glad to have you with us. I will send you more information regarding the new admissions when the right time comes.
Yours truly,
Dr. Andrew H. Miller
Head Director

So, did anyone get an e-mail besides the one that brings you to the fth site with the trailer?

Seems the main page at http://www.facethehorror.com has been updated, very well done trailer, and it looks like the game isn't coming out until 2011.
Personally, after looking around the gallery and everything else I could find that was new, I see nothing ARGish at all in the new stuff. But the game doesn't really look like my cup of tea anyway so I think I'll be setting this one aside.

Regardless, the personal emails were a nice touch. Even if this turns out to be a Cloverfield-esque advertisement, it was a nice distraction. Opening a thread with [Trailhead?] should never warrant a definitive ARG but a small developement on either a dead ARG, a pre-game, or good marketing.

I still haven't been able to tell if this is just a really good marketing guy trying to keep us interested or if there's actually an ARG here to promote the game. Either way, I'll be sure to check up when they release the new.whateveritis

Sent two messages to them; one inquiring about my "friend" Bertrand LaRoche, another asking how I figure our whether I should be admitted; response below
| Quote: |
Dear friend,
You will be notified by letter when your admission has been accepted... but I suggest that you stop asking about Bertrand Laroche. We don't like that.

Well I'm happy (I guess?) to say the Institute doesn't accept children.
| Quote: |
Dear Kaetlin,
I am very sorry to say this but our institute is not prepared to house any children -- even if we did, the environment would be too difficult to handle for them. You will have to look for a specialized hospital for them.
With kindest regards,

Got a reply about their methods and facilities:
"We'd rather keep our methods to ourselves... you can think of them as "trade secrets", if you know what I mean. That said, I can assure you that everything we do here at the Hanwell Mental Institute is legal. Note that you will be required to sign a document that relieves us of any responsibility should you suffer any permanent damage (that is, any more damage than what you have already) but do not worry, this is all standard procedure.
I can talk a bit about our facilities though: inmates can freely roam an entire floor of the asylum and many are chosen to help in everyday tasks such as laundry and cooking. Leisure activities include reading in a vast library, spend some time in our game room, backyard or gallery. Additionally, therapeutical activities include attending lectures, participating in workshops, creating art and more. Of course, we also provide a chapel that all our inmates can visit anytime they want.
I trust this will dissipate any doubts you may have about the Hanwell Mental Institute and we look forward to receiving you very soon.
-Dr. Miller"
Sign a document against them being responsible for any permanent damage?! lol.

Still ROFLing about the reply I received. I asked Dr. Miller for help regarding my poor, confused brother, who's giving away his inheritance to charity organizations instead of helping his family to secure our wealth and expand the family empire.
| Quote: |
Dear Tricia,
The success of the Hanwell Mental Institute reopening has surpassed all our expectations. This positive reaction should be more than enough to dissipate those dreadful events of many years ago, when the institute had to be shut down -- but pay no attention to those tasteless rumors, we have great things to look forward to.
In any case, we appreciate that you choose the Hanwell Mental Institute to house your brother. We are thrilled to be able to help and we will do our best. It sounds like a severe case though, so we may have to resort to some extreme measures to fix him. That said, I promise that we will return him to you in one piece.
We are looking forward to receiving you, and your brother, on July 9th.
With kindest regards,
Dr. Andrew H. Miller

PS: Please, send my regards to Zaphod. |
Since by (my) definition everyone who recognizes the Hitchhiker's Guide's characters IS a nice person, I'm sure Dr. Miller is honest with us and rumors about him or Hanwell will turn out to be completely unfounded.
SPEC after seeing AzureWolf's very post: I guess the dreadful events and reopening of the institute are part of the plot clues.
