Alex. Alexander Sword. Scimitar. Haaa, I get it. /useless post is useless

EDIT: ^ Duo Corp is a real company, incidentally.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This looks like it's done by an "amateur" group (and by that I mean "not a company and with no company's monetary backing) and isn't for a game or product, but rather just for fun. My opinion, anyways.

Alright, curiousity got the better of me, so I emailed Dan about Failtech's purpose.

What I sent:
Quote:
I am a member of the expert team that's helping you guys with the situation. I'm curious about what exactly you guys DO. Your website says that you're a software company, but I don't know many software companies that have arctic bases and develop deadly toxins. I know that most of the details will inevitably be classified, but I'd like to know so I can help you more easily.

Now, I'm waiting for a response.
Edit: He responded, and I think we got a clue about the ARG's universe.
Quote:
No, we're a Research and Development company, in case your fellow team mates hasn't properly briefed you. Basically, we research and develop technology. Most of which are considered years away from the present, or let's just say "sci-fi" for the present day. We start a research, and then we look for investors willing to provide funds to further a research that they will be willing to acquire or license from us. Usually our investors are other companies, such as Duo Corp, but sometimes government institutions also take part in investing some of our research.

However, we don't always get lucky in getting an investor, so we also sell our products that are a result of our advanced research and very "futuristic" technology.

Sometimes, some research goes, bad, and we might have developed some "bad stuff" so that's not out of the question. We're a company, so if we figured we can make profit from something, we'd go for it.

Don't worry, being a part of the experts team is perfectly safe and grants you access to most classified information about the company, as long as you ask them directly from me.

Daniel Miller
Board of Director, FAILTECH

Duo Corp....hmmm...Isn't that from Deus Ex?

Aha, I asked about the leadership structure of Failtech (particularly Genus's superiors) and Miller gave a good response:
Quote:
Genus has a really big team, or so we can call. He's the head of his department. Everyone in his department has been sent home for a month, since resolution of the incident a week ago and has been sent to go on silence about what has happened, so we can't really contact them right now.

Now regarding the board of directors, there's six of us, including me. I'm very sorry I haven't really mentioned much about the board, since it's still a mess down here. But to answer your question, the other directors are David Black, Pedro Jose, Jean Klein, Alexander Sword, and Winston Yu, where Alexander Sword is the Chief Director (or the Chairman) by having the largest share in the company (besides Fred) and also because he was elected by the board and the executive council.

At the highest of the company's organizational structure is Fred Don, as the Owner and Founder (and by having the biggest share of all), then comes Alexander Sword, as the Chief Director, then below him is the Board of Directors, which includes me, the beneath us are the Executive Council consisting of the head of each department and divisions (that's where Genus is).

If Genus was to report to anyone, it would be anyone in the board of directors, which includes the chief director. He can also report to Fred directly, but there was no need for that. Fred doesn't really have any executive power over the company, but his shares hold some "power" over the decision making of the company.

Alex = Alexander Sword perhaps?

Hurm, that blog stuff is quite... Interesting. Lots of trajectories. I might poke around and see if those alignments match up to any specific date.

Also, here's a proposal. Maybe we engineer our own alliances for this? That is, we can make sure we always have at least one of us on their "good" side, so we don't risk totally breaking contact with anyone major. We could also designate some of us to ask the kinds of questions more likely to earn a block, but we'd have to make sure those people aren't taken to represent the groups we've already established.

...Does that make sense at all to anyone else? XD;

Asked Scimitar about Alex, got a quick reply:
Quote:
It's funny you're interested about Alex. You ask what has happened to him? Maybe you can ask you friend who's been hiding some information from you all this time. Or then again, maybe he doesn't know?

Dan replied about the decoding:
Quote:
Yes, seems like it. I'll add to the files we've uncovered. So far, nothing much of use to progress the investigation or to find where Genus might have went. I'll keep you posted. My technicians have informed me of a bunch of audio files in Genus' files. May not be that important, but we'll see. I'll send them over when my technicians get a look (or rather a listen?) to them and see if we'll need your help.

Interesting development here... have you tried asking either Dan or Scimitar who alex is? Might be all that important if Genus is communicating with that guy.

And those pictures, weird. But, yeah, the first one was definitely our solar system with some sort of path for a satellite, or something. The file name is "trajectory" so I guess it has something to d with that.... The other two are named "learn" and "symbol"

looks to me like Genus planned the lockdown from the beginning! And he was in cahoots with at least one other FAILTECH employee! Maybe Alex is Scimitar?

However... If Scimitar was able to create his own login ID on the server, perhaps the file is a fabrication of his making?

As for the blog. I have no idea as to what to think of those images...

Sure, I'll post what I replied, because I definitely think you guys should see what I was given:
Quote:
Well, we are at an impasse, are we not? You want someone to reboot
LAINSY, and I am not about to do that. Yet.

I don't know what I could say to convince you. I don't even know
where your loyalties lie. Are you with Orein or are you simply
withholding his location for your own amusement?

Either way, you mention that you like a good show. Well, everyone
else has written you off as crazy and dangerous. Miller's got the
others reporting to him about any message you send. They're not going
to listen to you. And they're not going to do what you want. So you
already know what's going to happen. What good is a show where you
know the ending?

So that leaves me, a neutral agent. I don't trust Miller, but his
information has been very useful so far. I don't know what's going on
with Orein, but it sounds like he could use some help, he just doesn't
know who to trust. And as for you, I think I'm the only one that is
willing to consider what you have to say. So if you really want a
good show, a show where you can't predict the ending, I'm probably the
only choice you've got.

-posse

I think Scimitar is interested, because I got his response:
Quote:
Well, since you're so much interested, and I do agree with what you say. Let me send you something that Miller will never give anyone of you even if you work for him until the end of all of these.

Head over to the Secure File Storage section of the website at /sfs and then access Level 7 (it's unlisted, but I know you know what to do) enter the login:
L7U scimitar
L7P thepathway

then navigate to the Space Communications Research directory, then Whispher Project, then Orein's folder, then his notes. You will find a file there. Read it and tell what you think.

I've been blocking Miller's progress, so he won't really get anything useful until I'm done. And since you're neutral, maybe it's time to pick sides?

All I can say is, it definitely IS pretty interesting! Who is Alex? Another Failtech director? And the note Scimitar gave pointed to a blog: http://genusorein.blogspot.com/ So far I don't really know what to make of the pictures on the blog. Looks like one is of some path that goes through our solar system. The others are at first glance pretty creepy!

What do you guys think?

PS - Yeah I haven't gotten around to reporting that enigma message to Dan, so feel free to go ahead duke. Thanks!

Have you already emailed that decoded string to Dan? If not, I will.
Also, I second that you should post the message you sent to Scimitar.

Also heads up a new email from Dan Miller:
Quote:
My technicians were able to extract the timestamp on the file we worked on yesterday. It was dated June 7 2011 when it was created and dated June 9 2011 when it was deleted. Seems very significant since the date the code of the facility's systems were modified on June 9. Also, my technicians encountered a file with a string of letters that seem similar to one you have already worked on. I have posted the file at the same location on the secure file storage for you to work on. None of the people I have here on the facility knows how to decode it.

Good luck and keep me posted! I'll keep you posted on our progress here.

There's a new file posted at Dan's file storage (url: http://failtechnologies.com/sfs/L6/millerfiles/experts/remember.txt)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Enigma code settings are:
III V I
VZQ
AAA (ignore, or start of message)
Plugs: EH IW PS (the letters, minus the R, of WHISPHER)
coded message: OGZQIMFDXLWXLSDLHKZJLDVALFRMQGQDIVSHZIVHERUDSUZJURXWQLLMJBJXLERXMLWGKYZEWQEKOCGZI

decoded to:

Sure, I'll fess up. Very Happy I haven't rebooted LAINSY, and I won't do it unless there's a majority here who can agree on that decision, but I want to make sure that this new character has a chance to "play" before we all start ignoring him and feeding him to Miller. I had sent him this email:
Quote:
Hello Scimitar (or what do you want to be called?)

I don't know if my fellow colleagues have reached out to you yet, but
let's just say you have piqued my interest.

I'm not convinced enough to go against my co-workers' wishes and
reboot LAINSY on my own, but I can see that you have special
information that can't be obtained by going through the "conventional"
(i.e., corporate) means of conversing with Mr. Miller and waiting on
his reports from his own team of programmers as they investigate the
incident at the Antarctica Facility. From what you're saying, by the
time they do find something important, it will be too late.

So because I think your information is important and time is of the
essence, I'm willing to play along. But I can't go rogue against my
fellow mates without a damn good reason. I may, however, be able to
convince them to hear you out. So if you have something to say, I'm
listening.

Just wanted to let you know.

He's replied with the following:

I think you already know what I want to happen, and I don't have to say it again. Maybe if you can convince me, I might have something special for you.

So what can I say? I'm curious, so I sent him a (hopefully) convincing reply. I don't think we're going to get very far unless we consider all our options here. Will keep you in the loop on how this plays out.

That was actually a really nice move! I think if you dance around this guy enough we might be able to yank a little information out of him. Very Happy

I'm not too sure what he wants you to "convince" him of, per se. Maybe that you've really splintered from the group? If you played that up too much he might get suspicious, though. Would you be able to post your reply as well?

New Scimitar email. Has someone been chatting with him?
Quote:
Good morning! Or good afternoon, wherever you are. Or maybe good evening? Whatever it maybe, I just though I'd drop by and say hello to Mr Miller's "experts".

It's been great having some sort of communication with you. Oh, and it is indeed great to see that someone is showing some interest in what I know. I won't tell who that is. It won't be fun anymore if I tell you who that was.

Yes, you can call me scimitar or whatever you like. I don't mind. It won't make any significance if you figured out my email was hex for that word. Seriously now, make this show worth watching Smile

Edit--No problem duke, I beat you by a full 10 minutes! Not like it matters... solving puzzles make you feel great!

Dan's response:

Quote:
I. am. just. speechless about this. Creepy indeed. But I think I do have something that might help about this.

In early prototypes of the Whispher project, test subjects (and just for the sake of getting things to progress in this problem we're facing, our test subjects were actual live humans) experienced a slight passive reaction to the Whispher project. And that is the ability to have a persistent connection to whoever they communicated to, using the Whispher project. But, it only lasts a couple of hours, until in later developments that after-effect lasted down to mere minutes until further down the research we were able to eliminate this after-effect.

Genus has invested heavily on this project and is the lead scientist for this, as I may have already mentioned. He was able to solve the problem and remove the after-effect. However, in the early days of the project he seemed to have experienced this after-effect himself when he intentionally used the project onto himself. From that day, he experiences these so called "voices" which only he hears. We assumed he might have just gone crazy so we had him checked and he was fine. After the checkup, the after-effect was gone so we didn't bother with it. We then also required him to NOT use the project on himself again. That's also when we tried to start testing it on live humans, since Genus didn't die from it, and he just had that after-effect. From there, the project had it's development sped up and Genus was able to fine tune it.

It was indeed his biggest achievement. I'll try to see if we have a timestamp on when this file was made and deleted. This might have just been a file when he had the after-effect years ago.

I'll update you when I have more files to be checked.
