Perhaps the cat or dog question has something to do with the misfits Cats Grin Freely statement?

I think they link to be honest. Both sites have a Karen. One speaks of a Karen who wants to kill herself, (the one I found) and the other speaks of a Karen who is seemingly being ruled by "Lady of Strings" herself. Perhaps her suicide attempt was brought on by that?

New clue posted in Grace's blog comments.
Links here.

Peices loom and XEI, we've been on the right track guys. And it's about Karen.
Bolded letters in blog are ENIGMA MACHINE.
The about tag on the blog states "Sometimes a typo is just a typo."
If nothing else APTDTU MKKF cryptograms to a ominous PIECES LOOM
Bril Booba as usual and Ashe was close. Comment on Grace's blog links to http://piecesloom.wordpress.com/ with some bolded letters spelling enigma machine.
Booba also has an interesting post on page 6 about an enigma machine. In About: Sometimes a typo is just a typo

So I'm being asked whether Derek gets a dog or a cat. If he gets a dog where will it go do his business if he's trapped in a cabin? Is Derek allergic to cats? Could the dog be trained to kill Derek? Thoughts?

Got a response! Is Derek going to get a dog or a cat?
EDIT: New blog from Grace too.

The Jester didn't immediately reply back, so I sent him the answer in the same form he sent us the riddle. Trying something different.

Very Sha-Zoobie! Did you send Jester the actual riddle answer? It's a funny joke. Heading back to Sleepyville but am happy to post it here for you to send him.

Whoa, a lot has happened. Ehm, so I'm a bit confused and I'd like to keep things in order.
The Jester has given us the first word for a cheat code. The word: " These . He also wrote "The ants go marchin one by one, hurrah, hurrah" on the envelope to Grace (Song title). What's that supposed to mean?
Grace's boss was dead, and the envelope there said: NO MORE DISTRACTIONS and had the new code APTDTU MKKF, which we don't quite know how to solve yet. (I also think it looks like some kind of caecar's shift, but ... oh well). Obviously the jester or the misfits killed her boss so that she can focus more on finding Derek, without having to worry about work.
Then there's the Mummer's Farce where we can ask questions and hopefully get some interesting answers. He/she is a servant of the puppet empress or the wooden girl.
Then we have the Vagabond, who seems to be under order by the puppet empress too.
Last we have Karen, who was found by putting the misspelled letter from a code togheter, and searching for a blog. We still don't know if she is important.
So I'm wondering what kind of 'act' we've got here. O.o Everyone seem to be following orders from the puppet empress, and the others are dolls in a play? Could we draw parallells to the post that the Vagabond made about CHARACTERS IN "THE DANCE OF FORTUNE".
I'm sorry if this is awfully stupid post, but I don't want to misunderstand anything or miss anything.
The vagabond says he played the role of Tartaglia, which was an actual character in the play according to google, but that it no longer applies. So I believe in short the answer to your question is yes about the characters in the play.
We also have the new clue decoded and figured out.
And we've found out that the show Candle Cove, a SM Mythos reference is playing part in here somewhere, though we don't exactly know how yet.
Edit to add: There's also the comment on Grace's newest blog made by the misfits that states "Run run run to the city of sin. There the Cats Grin Freely." Not too sure if it's a clue, but I know to look for things that seem out of place and it's odd to me that the first sentence was written with correct capitalization and the second sentence had "Cats", "Grin", and "Freely" all capitalized.

Well, you've done it before me, I can't make any headway on it. lol.
oh. i shall explain!! =D
it's just substitution. the type that's 1 = a, 2 = b, etc.
however, this one is just done in reverse. 26 = a, 25 = b, etc. the dashes are just used as spaces between words in the riddle.
if it's correct though. i still don't have any confirmation. but i'm still really excited. =D
bahaha! Total blonde moment. I had the substitution thing, but I did it forward and was trying to cipher it through rotation. When I couldn't get it that way I went though other ciphers and codes including key codes since the first word was 3 letters and easily could have been a code with the letters being equal to XEI or NMD (no more distractions) or CGF (cats grin freely, something the misfits mentioned in a comment). I never thought to run it through backwards. >.<
