Nope Catherwood not a movie in a movie type of thing, that shot is actually the opening frame.

yay! another winner. The first shot looked so familiar, the 2nd looked so cliche, it's possible i've seen that movie but I'm glad I don't remember it not.
for the new one, i'm thinking some movie inside a movie, like The Purple Rose of Cairo?
Edit: Also, awesome job on those stats Catherwood, it's really fun to look through that. Seven years...

That's a really impressive body of work there, catherwood. Folks don't really have a concept of how laborious that effort was.
I wanted to go back and use your info to clean-up some of the entries in the Google spreadsheet, but I wasn't sure where a lot of the items in the notes document occurred in the thread. Or really... how the more subjective decisions were made, this long after events occurred.
You must be a whiz with Excel dates math. I hate it every time I have to do those kinds of calcs.
It's an interesting analysis on "difficulty"; but, since everyone has a different take on how the game should be played, I'm not sure what it really says. The various obscurities in the posts are just all over the board and sometimes just come down to how mean the poster wants to be.
I'll take another crack at updating the google doc when my bandwidth is better.

ugh, i have no idea, or at least no guesses. I would assume the hair is from someone trying to change their appearance.
But, I come bearing gifts! I have finished walking the thread, and have created some spreadsheets. One is simply the current data for 1056 rounds, another is that file with some supporting annotations and charts, and the last is a table with our leaderboard, spread across the 6-years-plus.
With 1056 "rounds", we've really used "only" 1015 movie titles (1016 if you count a spammer who butted in) with 40 rounds being repeats.
I did have some fun reviewing our history. One highlight came from this post in which urthstripe wonders why a certain title had never been used, when in fact he himself posted it the previous year (on 2010-Feb-21 19:14 at #923).
I am making my data available for download on a private server. I won't hot-link to it, but if you view the source of my homepage (catwood dot leftbrained dot org) you should be able to find it. Let me know if you have questions, maybe via Private Message or IM to keep this thread uncluttered.
Back to the guessing!
