it sounds past tense. if this was in-game, the timeframe would be 2023+50 -> 2073, and may or may not be in the same year as the movie's story? i'm unfamiliar of the relative timeframes in this world, but if it's in-game it appears to be approaching it from a historical perspective.
I found this as a rough guide to the timeline of the movie. Although its not all confirmed on the site, there are some "Canon" things in there like the birth dates of the Nostromo crew members (taken from the death reports during Ripley's Tribunal in "Aliens)
If this is to be believed, then 2023 (from the TED video) is shortly before the discovery of FTL travel, and Peter Wayland could well be dead before the "Prometheus" mission, so the existence of an android version of Wayland on this mission is possible/probable.
This all feels like Lindelof's work. Historical accuracy is something JJ Abrams and Lindelof have worked on before with LOST and CLOVERFIELD. If nothing else, its got everyone excited!

thanks for the heads up, guestuser17
the waylandcorp twitter account used a few twitter clients:
-web
-YoruFukurou
-twitter for ipad
the suspected twitter user uses... guess what?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
YoruFukurou
what are the odds of anybody using that particular client? it does have his signature and i'm leaning more towards this aspect of the puzzle of @waylandcorp as oog unless we officially hear otherwise.
yutani corp uses web client and rt'ed a few so that one is still up in the air for me until skyrocket media llc can be fully disproved.

Yeah me too. As for the @WaylandCorp twitter account go look for someone that tweeted that it doesn't exist - or at least didn't. The wording sounds like he created it and the first post from WaylandCorp was 4 minutes after he posted that. Also, today he posted that he appeared to have started an ARG by mistake. I've sent him a DM to check but no reply yet.

i'm keeping a bit of healthy skepticism myself, but looked for potential clues since the spiderman viral has been inactive.
a few things to note so far:
-weylandindustries.com site says "CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF BUILDING BETTER WORLDS." + "To honor this historic event"...
-a twitter post by wylandcorp said:
Old Mr Peter was so inspiring, wasn't he? I wish he were still with us. In body, I mean, obviously we have his upload.

mistake?
-weyland was born at the turn of the millenium according to the ted blog. so, wouldn't he be 23 years old doing the ted 2023 talk?
on a different topic:
verify if in-game or oog?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
-on twitter, @yutanicorp just followed me.
-the site is: http://www.yutanicorp.com/
-it lists a facebook page that is dated last year.
-it confirms twitter account from domain listed.
- domain whois, same owners as weylandcorp.com (note the change date is feb 28th as well):

so, is skyrocket media behind this game? i think we need more official/concrete clues/evidence to figure out if this is part of the whole game and not oog, just to be sure.
to add more to weylandcorp.com's whois:
- Updated Date: 28-feb-2012
- Creation Date: 14-aug-2004
-> a bit of imdb, avp came out 13 august 2004.
-> a bit of googling, lists: alien, aliens, weyland industries, avp http://pic.twitter.com/76ddmuND
if we can connect the dots, then it could show whether it's all or part in-game or not.
thanks guestuser17.

I asked @DamonLindelof about it earlier (since he had been tweeting about the TED Talk) but I did not get any response.

Pretty sure @WaylandCorp is an OOG twitter account. LV-426 (the planet from the first 2 movies) is a dead giveaway. After months of denying any major connection to the Alien franchise, LV-426 mentioned anywhere would be a huge spoiler.
The derelict ship in the trailer does appear to be the one that crash landed on LV-426 that Ripley and the WACKY GANG of space miners stumble across in Alien/Aliens. And it seems to be crash landing on LV-426.

I'm seeking confirmation that it is out-of-game from the person I suspect set it up. We'll see what they say shortly.

I think they're hinting an ARG... the moment I opened the link and read "Massive-scale online collaboration" It's an ARG alright....

blurry background deciphered. possibly red herring but interesting.
p.s. short link on video looked something more like AFJIK but a search on the ted website gave me that url, corresponding to the subject mentioned.
(edited for formatting)
(edited to also add:)
after a bit of checking, on.ted.com's shortlink
- the shortlink technology is by awe.sm.
-on the spoiler above, the url starts off with 'AR' but the last two characters change every time you click on the button to post and share. perhaps it's done for stats. so, while the url isn't literally deciphered at the very end, they all go to the same page. you can verify this yourself.

Just to mention that I first got this announcement yesterday on Facebook..
Awesome! TED as a platform for such bright minds as Weyland! I thinks it's pretty inspiring for another realities.
I hope now, it will be an ARG.

Here's hoping this turns into something worthwhile - this would be the first ARG that's caught my attention in a long, long time.

I just added the weylandcorp twitter feed, but to be honest it looks like a game jack. The Image of the group is very cloudy and i don't think a production group would stand for a low resolution image to be their main profile pic. Also, the main page nor anyone else related to the movie has actually mentioned the feed. My thoughts.. gamejack.
I'm beginning to think that. If you haven't looked already, the responses are a little bit of fun, it seems, but the two responses to me (mentioning Moravec and Kurzweil) refer to people known for work with robotics, specifically AI.... so it's quite... intriguing, for a gamejack. Maybe still worth keeping an eye on.
