@jane smith
That seems to knock out Weyland being an android or being transferred into an android though. Too bad, I liked those ideas.

Compressed Image 1
I took one of the video capture images of blue interference and squeezed it down. I then duplicated it and flipped it. With the two half's I then placed them side by side to produce the following image.
You can download this image and adjust it accordingly or download some of the other posted screen grabs from previous forum member posts. And then go about making your own comparative analysis.
This kind of looks like the front view of an Obelisk.
Or one of those standing stones with markings on it. (Which by the way may be forerunners to the modern day tombstone)
If I stand back from the monitor, I can see a figure. If I get closer I can see several figures.
I know, I'm crazy...right? Go Figure!
On one of the other squeezed down interference images...I see what appears to be some sort of alphabet or symbols.

I don't know, to me it's definitely a planet. It has a wild, shifting atmosphere, clear sky, waterfalls... Unless said moon is the size of the Earth and the mystery planet is the size of Neptune.

Moon
Is it possible that instead of landing on the mystery planet, they actually land on a "moon" of the mystery planet?

The boxes were looked up in this symbol encyclopedia http://www.symbols.com/encyclopedia/28/2813.html , but I couldn't find the four dot one there. They didn't look like maritime flags in the wicki.
It's confusing because they might have a border around them. The first simple is closest to either xray or romeo, second is likely quebec though may be papa, third is oscar for sure.
Thanks- I see. Not much meaning though- that would make old set O, P or Q, F and the new set X or R, P or Q, O.
So OPF or OQF now changed to one of the new variations-can't see what this stands for.

If they were just "sleeping" and none of them is able to communicate with them, that'd mean their real purpose is never explained...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I like that.
Scott did say the movie let you with some pretty big questions.

If you study the top-down views of the navigator room, you'll see there are four structures that bear a passing resemblance to egyptian sarcophagi in the inner ring. In one image I saw, one of them is clearly opened.
Wouldn't be surprised if they were in the room all along in some form of stasis.

In other news, if anyone is able to put up with Russian dubbing, here's the International trailer in 3D, make sure to view the video on YouTube as 3D doesn;t work with embeds.
I don't know about you, but watching this in Russian gave me a strong Solyaris vibe.

The jockeys in that look like the same color as the stars and planets where David looks real color. I think the jockey's there are 'recorded' so to speak.
Yes, and remember there's a brief scene on the most recent tv spots, where one of the characters (don't remember which) looks into a tunnel of sorts and sees a figure running away, but then it fades like a hologram. So it may as well be just a projection, even though the figure looked considerably small.
Furthermore I don't agree with the theories about someone turning into the Space Jockey or even using the suit, seeing as it's too big and the whole idea of a character "turning evil" for that purpose seems far fetched in my opinion, and it goes in hand (explicitly or not) with the alleged leaked script already debunked by Jon Spaihts himself (and which I'm sure it didn't include Peter Weyland anyway, nor the creatures we've seen, nor the ship crashing). It's more likely (in my interpretation of the trailer, that is) that whoever summoned them into that temple became aware of the kind of shit Weyland was getting into, gets really mad and seeks to get rid of him and his work. We still don't know what happens after that, because I remember Lindelof saying that most of the action happens in space, yet most of the action we see is in that planet, including the scene where ONLY Shaw and Vickers are seen running away from the Space Jockey model ship. It's not enough to piece things together, because something tips them off about the real purpose of that temple and I'm sure it's NOT the blue being.
Also I'd like to add something to what FilmEdge wrote, which elaborates some of the ideas I've thought about and others that have been posting here: When people talk about immortality and life extension, they often neglect brain deterioration, namely Alzheimer. It's bound to happen, after a certain age the braincells die and the thought processes are impaired. This is something not every sci-fi writer is concerned about, but even considering that Lindelof and Spaihts didn't have that in mind, I'm sure Mr. Weyland will be portrayed as an insane man. He may seem still smart, but having lived past his prime and still looking for ways to keep himself from dying might've turned him crazy about the idea, and in turn make him dangerous to himself and others around him.
Adding to that there's another company fighting against Weyland Industries in order to control the resources on Earth, which is most likely Yutani Corporation... This adds more stress to the already frail mind of an old man like Weyland, and the outcome will most surely be negative.

Future World
So figuratively speaking...
Mr. Peter Weyland was born of two parents.
One who lived in the "Old World" with "Comparative Mythology".
And the other who lived in the "New World" with "Software Engineering".
