Still no to all the recent guesses, although again some good ones. There are at least two movies in there that are direct descendants of this one (i.e. their being made probably would never have happened if this movie hadn't been made first).

Back on the movie at hand. Could it be Blade? The 'writing on the wall' sure looks familiar.

(not that I recognise the picture but the writing and the coloring -cold gold- seem right. How is that for an educated guess? )

Thanks very much. Hard is okay, although once it is clear that no one has any idea, I think it's good to give people something they can recognize, which you did. I mean, I've never seen this film, and I am going to presume that very few others around here have either, otherwise I gather they would have recognized it. I only was able to figure it out by presuming that was in fact Mr. Ledger, Googling a few of his films that seemed likely, then getting lucky and finding a video on YouTube that featured one of your stills.

I never actually said that it was a horror film - merely that the first picture fitted the horror theme. Sorry to mislead

Anyhow, seeing as people are finding this one tough here's a picture of the lead actor - he's pretty well-known so someone should recognise him.
