Hmm, first instincts say Letters from Iwo Jima, looks like the right style and time setting.

-Edit- Aha, after finding the trailer on youtube it seems my first impressions were right. Great movie that, shows the two sidedness of war and the whole 'no winners' thing. Love those expressions in that still too, after General Kuribayashi says so cooly that if Japan and America were to go to war that he would fight against them for Japan.

This next one I haven't seen in years, but I remember it beeing really cool when I saw it as a kid.
