Yay! In-game forums and Wiki. Communication with characters now commencing.

BTW - Arkham is also home to the Miskatonic University, which you've probably heard of and will probably pop up somewhere in this game.

Also Arkham Asylum in the DC universe was an homage to Lovecraft. So I assume it's unrelated. But like I said there was the sanatorium and that is pure Lovecraft. Also Arkham House was the publisher of some of his work I think.

I believe Arkham was Lovecraft's version of New England.

I am wearing a scent called Arkham today, incidentally. Seemed appropriate. Wink (Maple, birch, dogwood, cypress and pine softened by a garland of New England wildflowers: bergamot, columbine, rue anemone, blue violet, creeping phlox, bloodroot, toadflax, and pixie moss. Very nice; I smell sort of like a wildflower garden after it rains.)

I now return you to your regularly scheduled ARGing. Razz

I THOUGHT I smelled something nice! Wink

Wasn't Arkham an asylum of some sort, too?

Yes it was, Arkham Sanatorium. Also it's the name of the town where Lovecraft based a series of stories. I think one or two of the stories that pages have come from are actually included in that cycle. I'll look it up when I get off work.

Also Hello! This is my first ARG. I've called the number and left contact info and read all of this topic so far. I'll play around with some ideas tonight.

Steve

Finally read all 23 pages, which means I'm in.

Any new info regarding the other Craigslist postings that haven't received packages yet? I see a Brooklyn one and though I know it's not for me, I'm interested to see who it's for!

could be "ten T_y_ut_o St." Some sort of live event address? Of course, I could be way off.

or "tently but lost", as in "...[was staring in]tently but lost [concentration]..."

I agree that chances are good that it turns out to be a (partial) phrase.

Not connected (as the dates are 2005ish) but odd?
http://www.arkham-mass.com/arkhamadvertiser.shtml

I'm really quite new to the whole Lovecraftian stuff, and to be honest I was just never that interested in it - but wasn't Arkham fictional?

I'm just trying to wrap my head around some of this stuff and have ended up going round in circles - looking into asylums and gragaes...lol....finding myself into the DC comic universe, where Arkham Sanitarium became Arkham Asylum?

One of the people from the mailing list tried to post this here and had trouble, so I'm reposting it on his behalf:

Here is a passage from American Gods, I reminds me of some clues (the flames and so on) you all received :

"This is not a land for gods," said the buffalo man. But it was not the buffalo man talking anymore, Shadow knew, in his dream: it was the fire speaking, the crackling and burning of the flame itself that spoke to Shadow in the dark place under the earth.

"This land was brought up from the depths of the ocean by a diver," said the fire. "It was spun from its own substance by a spider. It was shat by a raven. It is the body of a fallen father, whose bones are mountains, whose eyes are lakes."

"This is a land of dreams and fire," said the flame.

The more I read things in American Gods (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Gods), the more I find it close to the painting, the notes and the references to our actual world (the garage, the City, the sentences about "I prefere if we see each other but if you prefere modern media, I understand" etc.) and of course the reference to Bast (a cat in the novel)

Best luck and fun to all of you in your quest anyway !

Au revoir et à bientôt !
Laurent

They're so nice. Very Happy

The /images directory on bseeingu.com used to be open for browsing, but it looks like they've locked it down. Now I get a 403 Forbidden. Oh well.
