Under the heading of Deep Sea Beasties, the Kraken and Leviathan, logically explained, are of course the giant squid and the sperm whale. But since we've also got Lovecraft, whose Deep Sea Beasties were also deities of sorts, I'm not sure if the scientific explanation is as relevant as the mythological background.
Leviathan was one of the primordial sea monsters hinted at in Genesis, along with Behemoth. Their pairing suggests that they may be what is referenced in the second verse of Genesis, translated as "the earth was without form, and void." The Hebrew is actually tohu v'bohu -- tohu > tehom (sweet underground waters forbidden to rise up and reunite with the upper waters -- Genesis...ummm...4 or 5?) > Tiamat, the ancient Babylonian earth goddess/dragon who was slain by Anu/Marduk, who formed the earth from her corpse.
This is echoed in Hebrew myth, where there are two Leviathans, male and female, but the female is slain and the male gelded so they can't reproduce and take over the earth. In other legends Behemoth is Leviathan's mate. Supposedly the Leviathan is extremely smelly (possibly a linguistic carryover -- the Arabic tahama, "stinking," is supposedly etymologically related to the name Tiamat). Despite this, Leviathan's flesh is supposed to be a delicacy that will be sold and served in Jerusalem in the messianic era.
In random useless factoids, Leviathan is supposed to fear one creature only: a tiny fish known as Chalkis.
I think Leviathan has a whole body of Christian mythology as well, but I'd have to look it up and I'm done scanning and my migraine is back so instead I'm going to bed. Same for the Kraken.
I find it hard to believe the monster references are random -- perhaps they can be matched up with Lovecraft references or something?

All right, as promised, scans.
I'm not going to bother with the postcard, the coin, or the Providence slip since they're identical to Varin's.

Anyone in one of those cities up for it?
Hey, I'm in Milwaukee too. I just responded to the add, we'll see what develops.

Seems unlikely, as there wasn't one in Varin's city. Plus it also seems rather redundant -- B has my address already; why attempt to communicate with me through the personals?
I don't have that high an opinion of my charm.
It's obviously not outside the realm of possibility, but unless packages also go to players in the other cities from Craigslist, I think the personals are a different rabbithole.

Considering that she apparently has knowledge of specific players -- or at least Varin and me -- from her dreams, I'd say that she's attempting to contact other people she's seen in them. How she knows what cities these people are in is hard to say, but she knew our addresses, so maybe she has an Oneiroian GPS system.

What do you think these Craigslist postings are? Her 'readings' of the 'truth' about various people? Or are we just getting philosophical here?

You: Leaving the city.
Me: Staying behind.
Like so many of the others, you were eager to get out of the city. I can't blame you, but I'd love to know why you left and what you remember from your time there.

You: Trying to keep the line moving while making your own way.
Me: Standing in the abandoned building across the street.
I've been there every night watching and, every night, you're there keeping things organized and moving. Yet, you're moving in your own time and in your own way. Moving forward and going back. Have you seen me?
Call me and let me know. Until then, I'll bseeingu

You: The one in the center of it all - fanning the flames and fighting the fires.
Me: The one screaming at you to get to the others before it's too late.
Did you find them? Did they make it out ok?
I dream about you every night. I'm sure that you do, too. Call me. I'll bseeingu

You: Walking with the others, taking pictures of me and the nightmare around us.
Me: Standing alone on the street, watching and trying to stay out of the way.
Photographers capture the world around them, but do they live it? Photographers see people, but do they know them?
Do you remember the picture of me?

I have registered the IRC channel #stfeline on chat-solutions.org -- come join us? (Do i have to post all the "how to connect" info here? I'll be lazy and link you to similar info -- as soon as i can find it)
option one: just use the chat link from the unfiction main site
http://www.unfiction.com/chat/
and either put stfeline in the room name box, or wait until you've connected and then type /join #stfeline on the input line.
(The button to connect looks like a yellow ball with a green arrow.)
That page also contains the information you would need for a client like mIRC, even if you don't load the java applet:
p.s., any seasoned veterans want to help moderate the channel? ping me.

Hmm... Pages from 2600 magazine. Interesting. Did both packages contain the same page and/or were they from the same article?

You promised you'd pick me up on the way out of the city! *cough* *gasp* *wheeze*
Over before it started, really. We had no chance. It's been that same way the past few nights. Give me a call and let me know if you remember it differently. Until then, I'll bseeingu.

I identified one picture, right while cissmiace came up with the same info:
"side one of torn paper" shows a picture of Boris Karloff as The Monster in Frankenstein (1931).
The caricatures on the back might be reprints from the book "Croquis parisien" (1880) by Joris-Karl Huysman.
I'll be here if I find another hint and someone doesn't get it finished earlier...

Because I am a profesional Horror geek, I know that this picture that Varin got is *drumroll*
From the 1931 film frankenstein! And is the monster.
I need serious Horror Film therapy. Do they do rehab for that sort of thing? I really need a hobby if I can tell what the picture was from a pair of legs xD
