I saw the trailer for this months ago. It filled me with dread...
Sounds like a success to me.

Yeah I thought so too, and I also found the synopsis interesting:
Quote:
Not much time ago, knightmares came back to you. Knightmares about darkness creatures, arrived from deep in the space to our planet. Only you, a single university teacher seem to be aware of the threat. You will be an actor in a much bigger conspiration than you could have imagined and will discover some secrets that will change the world forever...
Although Miss Saint Feline isn't a university teacher, it still sounded a bit along the same lines...but who knows....I've just been looking for a commercial venture this game might be tied to.
I wonder if HPhack is a university teacher...he certainly has been having the nighmares...

[META] so if this ARG is a promo for this movie, why is the website for this movie such a hacked-up mess? They'd know we'd find that website. Unless the nasty website is supposed to throw us off the trail...
Maybe this is the actual movie site (not that it necessarily has anything to do with the game)...kind of a cute auto-reply when you sign up.

Greetings
You have taken the unwise step of signing up for the Cthulhu movie mailing list. No! We will not send you unwanted or unwarranted emails or give your name to anybody else, friend or foe, but now the ancient ones are aware of your browsing habits. Dark things await.
Of course, you can unsubscribe at any time, but until you fully understand the old religions, that might not be the wisest of ideas.
And just an FYI - it looks as though Lemonquest is doing a Cthulhu mobile game.
I had a quick look at the cthulhuthemovie site. From the page source the production company is Arkham NW Productions. Searching on that gives:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478126/combined, so it's a different movie.

A Seattle history professor, drawn back to his estranged family on the Oregon coast to execute his late mother's estate, is reaquainted with his best friend from childhood, with whom he has a long-awaited tryst. Caught in an accelerating series of events, he discovers aspects of his father's New Age cult which take on a dangerous and apocalyptic significance.
Doesn't sound like it fits - but it's interesting that there are so many Cthulhu based releases this year.
Oh, and hi btw - my first visit
I don't know if anyone has spotted these yet, but I got here via a banner advert: http://worsethanfailure.com/Default.aspx (the 'Sponsored by' half way down on the right hand side).
There are several links from the advert to google searches, the 'missed connection' one brings up a lot of the craigslist links.

AH!
Oh.... my..... AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
So I come back after a break, having less things on my plate (and more time) and a will to finally finish a friggin ARG for once, and I see this as a perfect one: pretty small, easy to catch up on... and I discover that the first 10 pages here take me well over an hour to get through. Can someone pretty much summarize what happened in the 30 pages?
I know people got packages with pictures, personal letters, coins, pages from books with codes in them... did we ever figure them out? And what cities did get them?
Oh, and I saw the first bunch of Craigslist ones... no one to my city.
By the way, I'm Dav Flamerock and I hope to join you guys.

I know this may be a little late, but I'm a huge fan of H. P. Lovecraft, and own most of the books. I just wanted to let you know that some of the torn pages (such as The Outsider and a few others) come from the book: The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories.
I own this book, and the page numbers match exactly to the ones you all have been posting.
I hope this helps, and I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned.
Edit - Holy crow that was a long link! TinyURL is your friend! Edited for link length - C

Out-of-the-box help
Hello, I'm new to the ARG world and after 31 read pages of text I decided to join this one. I have many ideas, questions, comments and concerns regarding all of this; so I will start slow and I'll help by looking at small details and thinking out and inside the box (mostly out).

PS1 : by the way I do have the original Lovecraft Tarot here. If you want me to look at something precisely in it, just ask, : I'll be glad to help.
Regarding this; I am not aware if it has been covered but, may we have some info about the "strength" tarot card if possible (it has been mentioned often and it is found in the web background)

Well I don't know if this really answers the question, but earlier today in chat this information was found:
[Do not look here if you don't wish to peek behind the curtain]
Interesting timing. Cthulhu is coming. Matches the watercolor idea of the monster showing up.
