Eric keeps popping up whenever I log into my IM, which has prompted me to check the website a couple of times over the last few months - never saw any changes, so this is fairly new. I don't think I checked it since 12th December (the postdate of the page says 12.12.12, which could = midnight 12th Dec) so maybe it's been there since then.
I also spoke to Eric a few months ago, who said it would be starting up again at some point (probably with some more thought gone into it this time?) - maybe here we go...

so erm...I was sorting out my old favourites links, and noticed that the site of
has now changed, but if it has changed few times over 2008, we maybe clueless?
has an image of a "clockhand" pointing upwards towards the words (in black) saying "find him."

Yeah I'm pretty much stuck, and other ARGs have pulled me in now. Got an alarm set for when the countdown runs out, and might try some other things for the numbers if I have time. But s'all a bit vague really.
Have spoken to Eric briefly on GTalk a few times, but doesn't seem to throw up anything useful. He's going through some Matrix stuff in his status/icon (status was "Trinity" and the icon is now some panties with "follow the white rabbit" written on them), but he said they were personal.
Maybe they're just preparing something big for December.

The CYG X-1 image is from a spacecraft called "BeppoSAX" - more info on the camera used to take it is here and here.
So, so far we have a possible link to the NSA and a link to NASA? Fits with the decoded message from before about a group of government officials and scientists.
(ETA: Also noticed, according to that webpage, the image was taken on June 24th. There's a "624" in the string of numbers we extracted from the RTF file, but could be coincidence.

good find, what did you search in order to find this at that site by the way?
Not sure how much you (or anyone else) knows on this, especially if you're outside the US. The NSA is one of those huge American TLAs like the CIA and FBI (if not bigger?) (not to be confused with the other NSA) - the nsa.unaligned thing is a spoof on that, I assume, crossed with a reference to SETI@home. NSA@home is not produced by the NSA
The NSCS is part of the NSA. According to wikipedia, it "is responsible for testing and evaluating computer equipment for use in high security and/or confidential applications." In other words, they know their security stuff
guess we can use this?
its a map of the internet not "lights"
Doesn't do much for us - we can use it to check what those "lights" refer to - i.e. which countries accessed the nsa@home page. (For the interested, most activity is from North America and Europe, natch. The "bright patch" 7 squares across and 3 down is "Cable TV" - I assume that's cable internet access. There's some access from Bell Labs, but generally very little from any military orgs.)
What I can't decide now is whether we've been pointed this way to a) find an exploit/some info on the packetstorm site to help us get into the nomennescio server (Eric said he had access to their files...), or b) use an md5/SHA-1 cracker to determine a key (of which there's been much talk).

--------------------------
(Edit: Blurgh, not an unforum-friendly URL? copy the whole lot...)
(Packetstorm is a pretty top computer-security site.)
Credit to Mason for following the "Site of the month" link at the bottom, to find said software.
We're looking into it now to see what it does, how to get it, and what we can use it against. Something round here must look like a SHA-1 or MD5 hash. :)
(ETA: interesting to note that there's an Israel mirror displayed at the top of the PS page. This doesnt seem to be on any of the archive.org pages, so must be relatively new.)

OK, there's just something about the way those dots are clustered that makes me want to look down, rather than up. See the attached image for an overlay of Europe/Africa on the image. I initially took a screen shot of Google Earth and placed the UK over the bit that reminded me of the UK. No resizing done.
This is a rough approximation to what I was thinking, but 1 thing in particular strikes me as important - the cross is pretty directly over Israel. This only intrigues me as Israel has come up before - see this post in the NN thread for the NN.org whois details.
Yes, this is sketchyish, but so is my graphical treatment. I'm not entirely convinced, but the Israel link is odd. Also, the bold red vertical line would then almost be on the Meridian Prime line (GMT). Plus the coloured dots then lie mostly over land - although these seem to be incomplete, with some grid squares not having any "data".
Argh, this is driving me mad.
(ETA: Turns out this is a map generated according to an xkcd idea - see here. There's fairly little overlap with the real world map, so I think the location of Israel is probably just coincidence here.)

Also, notice the headers: back/front.
Scribe, I think Nick is Nick from Magpie. Talk to him.

AA is back? Which AA was Augustine? The game's on.
I forgot I had a possible third Nick - one that didn't work for Magpie, but that was doing evolutionary computation stuff at COGS. But I forget who it was, so I'll chase it up.
We really need a way to confirm whether the Nick we find is the Nick we're looking for.
[Addendum:] Thanks for the colour counting, JawZ.
I'm kind of assuming the the NN change is a (big) hint for us to invert colours, or to invert *something*.
