We could try 314 for pi? I don't really remember if there was any significant 3 letter/digit word/number that we encountered that we haven't tried to guess yet.

It struck me that 3 letters would be likely as well since the 'XXX' was written on the top of the box as well as the note.
That's why some of my guesses were 3 digit numbers. I tried 271 because it was in Steve's e-mail addy and 311 because it was a part of the AIM username. I didn't know of any other 3 digit numbers we had come across.

Oh Wow! I am so jealous you got to do a real life find! That's awesome! I guess we'll get cracking on that file we're supposed to find.
Yeah, pretty cool. Most real life parts of ARGs seem to happen nowhere near here, so I never thought I'd be a part of such a find.

Thank You MrToasty
Just glad to be of some help.

Man! You must have been up there just before us. My friend and I went on that road trip today, and we went to the cemetery before anything else. You could see where all the action was from the street. I got all excited, thinking "Ooh! There's the mausoleum! And the tree with the fallen branch!" And then the box wasn't there. This was around... 12:30 ish?
Must've just missed each other. I left Iowa City just before noon and was back in Coralville around 1pm.

Sorry, I didn't know anything was going on. Next time try something like:
findings cedar rapids
probably not right but worth a try.
oh wait, I just thought of something. Maybe it's the double letters. What were they?
ETA: they were, I'm not entirely sure: A T C E D E or maybe A T C E D E D
here are some anagrams:
ACTED
AT CEDE
AT CEDED
DEAD ETC
DEED [ACT CAT]
An O in there would be really nice. A T C E D E O
anagrams:
[EAT ATE TEA] [CODE COED]
A TO CEDE
A [DOE ODE] ETC
DOTE ACE
OAT CEDE
with A T C E D E D O
anagrams are:
TO DECADE
AT DECODE
DATE [CODE COED]
[EAT ATE TEA] CODED
A TO CEDED
DEED COAT
[DOE ODE] ACTED
TOAD CEDE
AT DO CEDE
DOTED ACE
A DOT CEDE
OAT CEDED
That's it I'm out of ideas.

Just tried. No dice. Also tried Berry, 271, 311, and XXX.
Offline now...too bad. Maybe we can come up with some more ideas and try again tomorrow.

I took some notes- the dude was DL Berry, and he passed on October 22, 1892, at 43 years and three months. It seemed unlikely that this would be relevant to the game (unless the PM's grandfather was REALLY forward-thinking), but I thought it might be of note.
Also, FaerieQueen- Have you tried something like BFG Tech, like from the back of the message?
Edit: How about adding a file extension to them? Like xxx.avi or berry.mpg ?

Help! I'm chatting on AIM with cstrife311 and all he will say is, "file name?" I've tried a couple of things and he won't accept anything. He just keeps repeating the same thing. I don't know what to do!!
cstrife311 is a sn on AIM. I was not home when they signed on so I could not find out if it is IG or not. Thought I should throw that out there though.

OK, I was able to sneak away from work for an hour. I found the tombstone pretty easily. Walking up I was afraid it was gone already, but fortunately it was placed on the side away from the drive and out of sight. The box contained a bunch of rocks and a note:

Huh, weird, totally forgot all about that. Oh well. Then yeah! Text it! Doubt we'll get a response from Jeff, but maybe Dan might be ballsy enough to respond as his captor.

I checked the original and couldn't find anything that looks like writing. Some quality was lost when it was uploaded to youtube. But, still all I could see was the odd static.
faeryqueen21, we've had Jeff's phone since near the beginning of the game.

I hope this isn't over! That would make me very sad.
Miki: I thought the number Natas had was Dan's or Jeff's brother? I didn't think he actually had Jeff's phone number. I could be wrong though,
