So Ig, where should they send the free case of Emergen-C?

Except we would need a "key" for enigma.
BTW, here is a good enigma simulator.

I feel like hell. On every level. I tried my patented breakfast-burrito-as-savior approach, but it's not working. I've consumed a swimming pool's worth of water, over the last six hours. Not one of those kidney shaped pools. The other kind.

So, it's over. I'm such a tool. Turns out, she basically admitted that she hooked up with me to keep me on task. How sick is that? It gets

Emergen-C. Good idea. It's making the rounds.

Re: cut off. I hit publish by accident. More soon. It's crazy. I've got to race off to a meeting and pretend that I care. While attempting not to yak.

Yser/Ypres confusion

I am assuming that May 17 and "Yser" pointed us to the events on the Yser Canal May 17, 1915. I believe that would be considered part of the Second Battle of Ypres, but the location is Yser Canal. (The names are close enough that I suppose we may have misread the clue, somehow.)

I don't think the October Battle of Yser is intended. (That may be why we got "second" in the picture clue.)

Interestingly, there is a contemporary account from the NYT archive.
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9507EEDC1338E633A25752C2A9639C946496D6CF

Note in the last paragraph that it appears some of the German officers were killed by their own gas weapons.

[All the same, I could be wrong. I don't claim any special knowledge of military history, I'm just following clues like everyone else!]

I think the message from the picture just confirms what has already been speculated about on this board. RK's email points us to:

1. Shinran Shonin
2. Battle of Yser, May 17, 1915

I thought the Battle of Yser was in October 1914?

Speaking of sharp pain, I decided to follow up on Celina's post, and see what the deal is with the Dr. photo. see below.

hey, who's hiring? I'm kidding. Sort of.

such a mess.

So, there we are. Let's get cracking.

So, while I appreciate the shout-out and all - fairness dictates that I point out that I mentioned in the *post* that Nate check the picture under the LAPTOP. It was Kona that suggested to look at the Doc's picture in the frame.

However, I *did* also send Nate direct email:
Quote:
Hey Nate,

Not sure if you're looking at this email anymore - but just wanted to make you aware of a new picture on the Random Knowledge Flickr page... apparently of Dr. Gough wearing a tank and vest in front of a boat, which looks alot like the one next to his desk in the video you took while sneaking into his office.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/randomknowledge/

Some oddities in this picture:
- Dr. Gough is wearing a wedding ring. In the interview it sounds like he doesn't have a wife or family - "I have excelled at science and I have made that the focus of my life" when asked about his family.
- You don't scuba dive in jeans and t-shirt.

Also the caption on the Flickr site is "Stabbed, in the back". Interesting place for a comma, don't you think? I'm wondering if there isn't something written on the back of that photo in the Doc's office...

I commented on this last thing in your blog but thought I'd mention it here too, if you're still reading this - that hourglass on the Doc's desk has appeared in two videos - the interview one you saw on your first day, and the one you just made while sneaking into the office. Both times, the sand has been apparently *stuck* in the TOP of the hourglass. I'm sure you'll agree that this phenomena is very curious indeed!

Aside from all this mystery - how are things there? I'm sorry about the fight with Eliza, and her "not having fun" on the job anymore. Has George "counseled" her about your video exploits as well, do you think, or putting pressure on her about your relationship? That would truly suck - managers should keep their noses out of stuff if it's not affecting work... I've also noticed on her Twitter updates that she's been at work REALLY late lately (I'm assuming you know about her Twitter - http://twitter.com/eliza123456) and I'm sure that's had some effect on her mood as well Sad

Hope you guys can catch a break soon from all the work and go get that huge Vegas margarita Smile Have one for me when you do...

So Nate may have confused my email with my post - but no matter, we got the clue we needed Smile Just wanted to post this for clarity's sake (and to point out that he's been asked *twice* about the hourglass and hasn't responded - so either not a clue or *they're* not ready to go there yet).

This made me laugh - from the day I saw the video of the original experiment with the hand and orange, I couldn't get the movie "Real Genius" out of my head Very Happy

Ciphers I know that have been tried so far:

Vigenere, Caesar, Caesar box, cryptogram, and simple letter substitution. I started to try Vig and things picked up at work. My bad.

Well from the video of the technology image the weapon that could be created.

You could literally create the hand of god, use satellite mounted holo emitters to generate a huge holographic hand to flatten any target, or pluck a single person from their home.

A little comedic but it demonstrates the power.

Tygr20 tried a Vig, didn't work. We've run it through a couple of programs between us with no results.
