Though this may be unhelpful - "erkeley" in the letter could be Berkeley, home of UC, Berkeley. Aren't they known for their Engineering and science programs?
And I think the last line the paragraph that starts out "Time after time," is 'I really can't rationalize it ????g.'

I hate they do that, but I guess it's probably a law or something. For some of us PMs who live in places which would obviously give them away - that aspect of mailing sucks. BTW - this sounds interesting

BTW, the person who mailed the package scratched off the user-readable tracking number from the address label, but UPS added another sticker with it on there afterwards. Just a tip for future PMs: UPS will thwart your every move.
I'll wait until after this game is over to give out meta information, so your secret is safe with me.

Thanks natas. Still not sure how much time I will be able to invest here but will try to follow along as much as possible.

I got this too. To my house, which is weird - most times I give out my PO box to the ARG world.

more of the memo revealed
I haven't had much time lately to hang out in argville but I also received the same as enaxor, Varin and dashcat which gives us a little more of the letter revealed.
Expanding on thebruce's work, we now have:

Wanted to get back to you regarding a --enston t-----------
-----------------------------
Judged on the merits of his science, he's unparalleled -- but I wish I could
leave it at that.
Time after time, his personal history is affecting his throughput, and I
just can't seem to make any headway in the discussions re: his taking over
the lead in Weapons Physics. Given the cutbacks in Experimental Physical
Sciences. -----------------------------
He says -------------------------
---------------------------- to
D----- erkeley, ---- can ----------
This isn't a policy position, nor is it personal. His work ethic is
outstanding (how many people regularly get in before you!), but the
emotional issues...and his reluctance to meet with the counsellor leave
me with few options. We've got a role to play here, and he's made his
choices.
Now, it's time that we do the same. We'll need his resignation by the 1st.
Regards,
Michael.

I got a package too. All the same stuff as Ex and Varin. The letters do seem to have different parts blacked out. Here's mine
Edit: I did look under the sticker. There is nothing on the back of the sticker and the sticker is covering the ingredients of the emrgen-c. I also reluctantly unfolded the crane. There is nothing on the paper. The Emergen-c packet is open and empty, which is disappointing because I could use a hit of vitamin C.

While I doubt it would be related, and I'd hate to think that someone has made an ARG playing off of Dave being sick and in grave need of help ("Emergen-C?")
I'm more than willing to trust that varin would never manipulate anyone like that. In fact, I'd fold 1000 cranes on my own if it turned out the Folding the Wish was a hoax.
Origami cranes really aren't that uncommon. While these might have been inspired by Folding the Wish, you'd probably find others in your daily life if you looked hard enough (or if you recently bought Cathy's Key).

This looks promising. I'll be watching closely. FWIW, the last line of the second paragraph includes "can't rationalize it." I threw it in The Gimp, and some of the text was a little more readable when I eliminated the red and blue colors and worked with just green.
EDIT: nax, Varin- did you guys try to remove the sticker to see what might be behind it? How about opening the packet to see what's inside(other than maybe the obvious)?
SON OF EDIT: The packets are empty. I need to read gooder.

No, it looks normal.
