Ok, so after following this for the last two weeks, I finally feel I should try to help out. There is no telling what direction this password thing is going in, but I'm gonna throw out another idea. I feel like the **WEYLAND call seemed to be directing us back to the David 8 video. After watching the video several times, one glaring detail that caught my eye every time was the '8' was upside down. after looking at the style of the David signature it seemed possible that perhaps it spells something or are different characters when flipped. For instance, when you flip it, it looks like -C!^e4 or something. -C! seems to be a math equation of some sort (google calculator pops up as the only result when searching). It seemed like a possible lead, idk.

So are we assuming it's an error? Seems odd considering the effort they put in. If not, what could it mean? Confused It's so far off that it kind of breaks the whole thing.

Can they send you back 40 years in time too these Hypersleep Chambers?

Gliese 581 is 20.3 light years away.

Damn good point... Embarassed

FYI Peter_Weyland just tweeted
Quote:
The rain drop and the hurricane, the snow flake and the avalanche. #BigThingsHaveSmallBeginnings.

Don't know if that's a bone or just banter though. Just tossing it in the brain storm

Yeah, I already mentioned the Libra/Gliese 581 thing. Might wanna start to work together on this.

Oops, I should've paid more attention. Sorry about that.
Moving on, I thought I'd compare the planets mentioned in the timeline to those in this list, the problem is that the Gliese 581 aren't mentioned so it's a bit "inaccurate"; then again the info on the Kepler Mission is too technical to follow, and it mostly displays the huge chunk of planets found, unfiltered (and those are thousands). All we know so far is that there are 63 colonies, leaving out two planets in particular: LV-426 (it hasn't been explored yet by the time of this film) and the new one where Prometheus should be heading to.
Epsilon Eridanus, to me, is still a big candidate for the planet of this film judging by the star map, but that doesn't lead us to a clue yet.

Edit: Just a thought: do we have a clear view on which star Shaw's boyfriend points to when he touches the holographic map, and the constellations appear?

No relation between the two. Weyland and co. would go to Gliese 581 system with older technology, maybe not faster than light, but they'd still get there, and find stuff to mine.

Gliese 581 is 20 light years away. Even travelling at the speed of light, that's 40 years travel time for a round trip.

Which would mean they would have had to have left in 1992.

I'm more intrigued by the first Europa mission, what kind of "simple life" was found then that was'nt worth giving specifics about.

Also those patent numbers... they don't say what number the one he got when he was 14 was.
I find it weird, after a certain date, it suddently becomes important giving us the patent number, seems like quite an unnecessary detail. Could be just red herrings, ofc.

Also, it's probablyu been noticed many times, but.. I love how the "Spectagraph" entry, we see in action in the trailer (red lasers-emitting floating balls)

Another Gliese 581 thing is that the timeline states that 'Weyland creates new 5.56 millimeter round made of metals mined from the circumstellar habitable zone planets orbiting within Gliese 581 capable of traveling at max velocity in any atmosphere at any range' for July 4th 2033.

This is an oddity as on May 20th 2032 Weyland discovers FTL travel, and the first FTL ship is built on January 17th 2034.

Thought this was a mistake at first, but could be a clue?

Did they improve the quality recently (i.e. potentially in response to our failings) or was it just that we didn't use that version at the time?

your absolutely right on this, and I think they will slightly up the resolution on this thing until we can read that barcode. I spent a while 'shopping it yesterday and I'm still convinced it's alphanumeric

David 8 Video

In the slightly better version of the video it looks like there is text between the triangle & barcode, that I didn't see before. Can someone get a better screen grab of that?

Alright, disregarding the somewhat useless tip I posted above, I just checked my notes from last night on "things to research for later", and here's the full thing:
The other day I was looking for Weyland's birthday, which was in October 1st, 1990. I looked into his astrological sign and found out he's a Libra... So I looked into the constellation. This is what I found:

Quote:
Planetary system

Libra is home to the star Gliese 581, which has a planetary system consisting of at least 6 planets, including Gliese 581 g, the best candidate planet for human habitability and extra-solar life yet discovered,[1] Gliese 581 c, the first Earth-like extrasolar planet to be found within its parent star's habitable zone, Gliese 581 d, discovered in 2007 to be another Earth-like planet, and Gliese 581 e, the smallest mass exoplanet orbiting a normal star,[2] all of which are of significance for establishing the likelihood of life outside of the Solar System.[3] The family of candidate habitable planets was extended in late September 2010 to include Gliese 581 g, a tidally locked planet in the middle of the habitable zone, and currently the most likely discovered exoplanet to be capable of supporting life.[4]

Does that ring a bell? Oh yeah, one of the stars with colonies, and the two planets featured on the banner (Gliese 581 c and Gliese 581 e). Before jumping on that, though:

Quote:
Radio signal sent from Earth

A Message From Earth (AMFE) is a high-powered digital radio signal that was sent on 9 October 2008 toward Gliese 581 c. The signal is a digital time capsule containing 501 messages that were selected through a competition on the social networking site Bebo. The message was sent using the RT-70 radar telescope of Ukraine's National Space Agency. The signal will reach Gliese 581 in early 2029.

So there you have it, another message sent to a planetary system, just like the Cosmic Call message sent to Orion (HD 245409) in 2003, this time sent to the very first planet in the banner, and should arrived in 2029.

Also GJ 667CC happens to be the first planet where terraforming experiments were made successfully according to the timeline:

Quote:
MAY 28TH, 2039 - GJ 667CC
Using the Weyland Atmospheric Processor, the first functional and breathable atmosphere is produced on planet GJ 667CC, clearing the way for further terraforming activities on other planets.

So this makes me believe they chose those three snapshots in the banner for a reason. Two of them in the Libra constellation (Gliese 581 c and e, and the other in Scorpius (GJ 667 Cc). Perhaps we could explore this further?
