I think the PR mistake he's talking about is the Walking Dead Season 2 box set that has some character spoilers.

Nice sleuthing, blackfeathers. That is a prime example of what ARGers are naturally drawn to do Smile

thank you Smile

i couldn't have done it alone. thanks to guestuser17 for the tip which led to the rest. it's nice when fellow arg'ers have each others' backs. a bit of hive mind mentality helps.

gotta give the wayland twitter credit for coming clean.

Maybe some site has posted about the possibilities (and could have been a spoiler) about the movie.... like you know how certain sites try to flesh down aspects of a movie attempting to examine it even before it's released...

I couldn't think of any other reason for such post...

Perhaps the Wayland Industries page (obviously not the twitter account) is "in game" and it is there as a group of people who are "anti-Weyland" and is a page setup to fool people, or just bash Weyland Industries eventually.

Just ruminating...

First time posting since the cloverfield arg. Smile

the waylandcorp twitter account used a few twitter clients:
-web
-YoruFukurou
-twitter for ipad

the suspected twitter user uses... guess what?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

YoruFukurou

what are the odds of anybody using that particular client? it does have his signature and i'm leaning more towards this aspect of the puzzle of @waylandcorp as oog unless we officially hear otherwise.

yutani corp uses web client and rt'ed a few so that one is still up in the air for me until skyrocket media llc can be fully disproved.

It was just confirmed that the user was who I thought. @WaylandCorp is out of game unless the PM's pick it up. Smile Good work blackfeathers.

As for Weyland vs Wayland -- take anything WAYLAND with a grain of salt.

If the only in-game connection is a very tiny, relatively blurry instance of "wayland", for which someone may have easily, and very quickly, set up red herrings to capture as much activity on "wayland" variants as possible; Whether as an intentional gamejack or not.

I'd think that if it's a typo and it was caught officially, they would forward misspellings to the proper locations. I'd expect waylandindustries.com for example to transfer visitors to weylandindustries.com

As for @WaylandCorp on twitter, possibly the same result - presumably the official response would be to register that account, and either leave it empty to stop spoofers, or direct users to the proper Twitter account (be there one, of course).

So yeah, IMO, until there's blatant in-game connection to anything "Wayland", I'd take it with a grain of salt. Gamejacking can still be done by extremely skilled people and have all the appearance of official connection, yet still play havoc with followers.

That said, it could still be official. Razz There's just no way to be sure yet as the only connection could easily be a typo that potentially could have been taken advantage of.

skyrocket media, llc:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the owner has a twitter page: @JohnDomrzalski. curious twitter posts to say the least. he appears to either have potential for interfering with the arg or is actually a part of it in some way. i'd take it as oog but keep an eye open.
