[Puzzle] the coordinates puzzle

Oddly enough the coordinates puzzle is listed as solved on the wiki, but as far as I can tell it doesn't seem to have been solved. If it has I didn't find it after a lot of reading and searching.

regardless I've spent some time mulling it over.

I tried duplicating the flash program found in the Hint2.png file in Vis' folder. It's valid, but my computer gagged on the math. (BADLY) Aside from that: tx, ty, and s are undefined variables, so I had to fake them.

http://sf.sandwich.net/dw/test.fla

Eventually I gave up trying to make flash work and I went back to the wiki.

not quite coords but recipes & recipe algorithm parametric function polynomial expression its all the same doncha know

So I simply ripped all the point out as was and slapped them into excel. I knocked together a scatter plot and lo and behold: they look like points on a parametric function.

in fact I'm quite certain it's a specific parametric function because I have a hazy memory of being in a calculus class and flipping through the book and seeing a function that had a graph very much like this one would have. It has something to do with sin or cos getting exponentially larger or something... it's probably like "x, sin(y^x)" or something bizzare like that. my real problem is that I'm sure it's a specific formula. I just don't remember WHAT the formula is. The other problems are what do the numbers that each coordinate is associated with mean? (I put them on as labels for tracking purposes) and what about that one little point (38) down at the bottom that *doesn't* fit the rest of the function?

So I'm basically stuck for now and I thought I'd post this to let other people mull over this alternative. It would explain why the numbers are both irrational and given to us in so excessively long a form...

[UPDATE] will, energy, idea (keyword - diplomatic)

Found from that evil periodic table puzzle.

She was startled out of her reverie by a glimpse of something other than rock, in the distance. The path led ever onward, and vision seemed to fade out around it...yet, ahead of her appeared to be...a gathering.

Soon it was closer, she could see stone pillars and other objects.

Closer still--a throne?

Before she even knew it she was in the midst of the throng. Uncouth beasts capered and leered at her; huge rabbits grabbed her arms, holding her fast.

"Silence!quot; a voice cried out. A woman sat on the basalt throne; Jill shrank from her gaze. The woman wore an astonishing number of jewels and gems, her threadbare robes nearly hidden by the weight of the ornamentation. Her skin was pale, clammy, and her hair was stringy, but she bore a translucent beauty nonetheless.

"Another little mage come to walk the ancient path! path!" The rabbits pulled eagerly on Jill's arms, yanking her back and forth. "And why should we let you continue upon your merry way in our pleasant land, hm? What do you have to say for yourself, child?"

There is some new text on idea>rome:

Thy time is done, Great Ancient. Forever in shadow will you be, Master of Chaos, and to fade to nothing in obscurity will be thy fate.

This text is in yellow font... maybe a different character? Or from someone directly instead of through vis?

and in the source:

these letters ROT to simplerthanyouthink. (which Im guessing is referring to the large number)

I am new to this ARG lark, having been introduced to it by my husband, and after having logged into the daemon works home page was told that the site was down for mainenALLIESance. I don't know if this is part of the storyor if it really was down but i thought i'd do a bit of resaerch in to the ALLIES bit and the first search engine find was entitled "its all lies" and contained information about Zionism (the national movement for the return of the Jewish people to their homeland and the resumption of Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel). If i am batting out of field here, please let me know, but be gentle with me cos i'm an ARG virgin!!

[UPDATE]3/24 - idea, will (keyword - ozymandias)

will:
We have the word DESPAIR still...but, now, a picture file (next0.png) of numbers.

Note that, for evil's sake, the picture is white numbers on a transparent background - meaning that your standard view picture technique results in a blank white screen.

idea:

The human mind imposes meaning upon the universe. This meaning creates a force, telos , which works to bring reality in tune with our ideas .

It pushes the incomplete to completion.

It pushes the unjust to retribution.

It pushes events to resolution.

Don't you want to know how it all turns out?

New keyword - telos - but all it does is repeat the three "It pushes..." lines above. Not even new hidden text in the page source.

[PRESS] PC Gamer Article

Hah! Daemonworks actually made the PC Gamer Article that Varin has posted about in News & Rumors (check out the last page).

Even though I consider this a more minimalist ARG rather than a purist ARG - it actually got some press. Woot! :D

Hopefully this means more people will come and play and I won't feel so bad for not checking the pages regularly anymore (damn AotH).

Congrats to DIB, vis & Simon for making the article!

[Puzzle] - "bad ascii art ?"

(I am sorry If this is a repeat but i couldn't find it anywhere.)

It is mentioned on the wiki - and I can't find any mention of it here I was thinking maybe it is morse code. with * = . and | = -.

I am currently trying to go through all of the posible solutions...

I am also thinking the - in the "ascii art" might just be a "gap"

posible solutions for second part:

*||

ETT
EM
AT
W the last two seem the most likely to me...well without using rot or something

Edit:

just after posting I got my first "normal looking" responce out of the morse code

[PUZZLE - SOLVED] Tiles

This is the puzzle from http://www.simonsumeria.info/idea.php?keyword=accoutrements

The letters in the big block at the bottom:

ergmir
xiigpx
xvmxew
rexlti
vmwsri
vwevmz

If you take a ROT-22 you get:

ancien
teeclt
tritas
nathpe
risone
rsariv

Notice that the first line starts to spell out "ancient" (with the t on the 2nd line). Unfortunately, I can't get anything from there. But it is 4am, so maybe someone else will have better luck tomorrow.

[PUZZLE] Deamon3.png/deamon4.png - posible solution...

I was looking at the picture http://daemon.chaoseed.com/daemon3.png

If you looks closely at it:

you can see that it is not a blank image - I decided to edit it in paint to see what the image actually was. here is the result. (sorry for using paint's defult pallet.)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/ShadedSpriter/daemon3.png

In the source code I found the following above the picture

eiqbeiabpqaquiomiteigabpqaquiom using Rot-18 It comes out as "wait was this image always this image" I decided to change the number. (we already had deamon0, 1, and 2) I found deamon4 and 5 are active - deamon4 was a completely blue image - like deamon3 - recolouring it I got. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/ShadedSpriter/daemon4.png

deamon5 on the otherhand is a chat log with what looks like two chat log files - the top one has some lines called "doorway: " lilith is the only one I can actually make out.

[CONTACT] IM session with DIB

Well, a few minutes after I sent dib an email with my user name, he started contacting me. I'll put up the log after it's done.

Ok, chat's finished. Now I know why I stayed away from chat heavy ARGs. It almost felt like a battle to get any information out of him. Not necessarily a bad thing - but it's just not something I'm good at (especially not when I'm just about to get into bed). Maybe someone else can have a go at him another time.

[00:21] InvdrDIB: Hey there...got a moment?
[00:22] TheRowan72: ya
[00:22] TheRowan72: what's up?
[00:23] InvdrDIB: Hi!
[00:23] TheRowan72: hi
[00:23] InvdrDIB: Well I got your message, you see.
[00:23] TheRowan72: obviously :)
[00:23] InvdrDIB: *smiles*
[00:23] InvdrDIB: The thing is, I felt that you and your friends kind of have a stake in this, so...
[00:24] TheRowan72: We like to think that we do.
[00:24] InvdrDIB: *nods*
[00:24] InvdrDIB: how about if I just start from the beginning?
[00:24] TheRowan72: Sure. That's always the best place to start.
[00:25] InvdrDIB: Well, that's debatable from a literary standpoint.
[00:25] InvdrDIB: but anyway...
[00:25] InvdrDIB: Okay. last year I got it into my head to do one of these ARG things.
[00:25] InvdrDIB: I called up this college friend who knows about website stuff. Bernie. He said he had some friends who would help.
[00:26] InvdrDIB: We did some brainstorming with emails and stuff. somewhere out of this stew of ideas, we're not sure how (that may be important), came the idea of Jill Smith and Idunn.
[00:26] InvdrDIB: This cult that used a mishmash of Chinese and Norse mythology and was going to sacrifice a girl.
[00:27] TheRowan72: Yeah, I had to learn a lot of Chinese stuff for that.
[00:27] InvdrDIB: Ah, it's great when you can get people interested in obscure topics you like. :)
[00:27] InvdrDIB: anyway.
[00:28] InvdrDIB: Bernie found somewhere to host it, his friends did some web design, I found a picture of Gillian Anderson as a child, and we were off.
[00:28] TheRowan72: That was Gillian Anderson?
[00:28] InvdrDIB: :)
[00:28] TheRowan72: Who knew.
[00:28] InvdrDIB: Everything went pretty well (relatively speaking...) until the end.
[00:29] InvdrDIB: Then Simon appeared with his hacking and stuff.
[00:29] TheRowan72: I could argue about the zbao password, but I won't :)
[00:29] InvdrDIB: aha. Well. interesting point there...
[00:29] InvdrDIB: I wonder if I should even say this...
[00:29] TheRowan72: If you want my help, just say it
[00:30] InvdrDIB: no, no, I'm just thinking about one part of the game...
[00:30] TheRowan72: Oh?
[00:30] InvdrDIB: See...that password really wasn't solvable...until the very end when I defined the password.
[00:30] TheRowan72: You snot.
[00:30] InvdrDIB: I just went through the logs and found a password no one had tried.
[00:30] InvdrDIB: Fortunately, no one had thought of the easy one.
[00:31] TheRowan72: Do you know how long I worked on that?
[00:31] InvdrDIB: ...sorta.
[00:31] InvdrDIB: But it kept you interested!
[00:31] TheRowan72: Yes it did.
[00:31] TheRowan72: Now, back to Simon..
[00:31] InvdrDIB: That was odd because...Simon pulled out some of that code and displayed the list of passwords. I was going to give a hint somewhere...
[00:31] InvdrDIB: anyway...
[00:31] InvdrDIB: here's where it gets odd.
[00:32] TheRowan72: Ok
[00:32] InvdrDIB: Simon tells me that...there *really is* a sinister cult.
[00:32] InvdrDIB: They...well, if you believe him, they have already sacrificed a girl named Jill.
[00:32] InvdrDIB: Apparently...he was influencing us all along, making sure DaemonWorks incorporated elements based on...reality. as he perceived it.
[00:33] TheRowan72: For what purpose?
[00:33] InvdrDIB: Well...
[00:33] InvdrDIB: from what I've figured out...
[00:33] InvdrDIB: I think Simon had some connection to this cult, and then...a falling out?
[00:34] InvdrDIB: Jill is somewhere...dead but her spirit is wandering.
[00:34] InvdrDIB: And I have to tell you, I've seen some pretty disturbing information on this point...
[00:34] TheRowan72: Like?
[00:34] InvdrDIB: I don't...really want to get into it right now.
[00:34] TheRowan72: Ok.
[00:34] InvdrDIB: I mean...
[00:35] InvdrDIB: Let's just say Simon was able to find out some things that...It just unnerves me.
[00:35] TheRowan72: Ok.
[00:35] InvdrDIB: so yeah...
[00:36] InvdrDIB: Jill is...somewhere. and her experiences are going to...provide lots of knowledge to people who know about occult stuff.
[00:36] TheRowan72: Like Simon and the people in the cult?
[00:36] InvdrDIB: yes, exactly.
[00:36] InvdrDIB: Simon, however, is convinced that the cult doesn't know what they're doing.
[00:36] InvdrDIB: Only he can bring Jill back.
[00:36] TheRowan72: Is that even possible?
[00:36] InvdrDIB: Yeah, well...that's the thing...
[00:37] InvdrDIB: I'm sort of thinking...if it *is* possible, then shouldn't I help him?
[00:37] InvdrDIB: But on the other hand, I don't think he's really motivated by altruism here.
[00:37] TheRowan72: Aren't their consequences for bringing back the dead, no matter how they got that way?
[00:38] InvdrDIB: good question...
[00:38] InvdrDIB: so that's interesting.
[00:38] InvdrDIB: You think the dead should stay dead?
[00:38] InvdrDIB: so to speak?
[00:38] TheRowan72: I don't know.
[00:39] InvdrDIB: what was that book...
[00:39] InvdrDIB: the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.
[00:39] TheRowan72: I mean, it's great to think about brinign back an innocent victim and all, but you don't know what will happen if you do.
[00:39] TheRowan72: If things will be worse off or not.
[00:39] TheRowan72: I started reading Covenant - couldn't get into it.
[00:39] InvdrDIB: Heh...yeah.
[00:40] InvdrDIB: I liked them, but they're not easy reads.
[00:40] InvdrDIB: bringing someone back from the dead was a violation of the natural order, and thus Bad.
[00:41] InvdrDIB: unfortunately...if we want to stop Simon, I'm not sure how to do that easier.
[00:41] InvdrDIB: but then, it *might* be possible.
[00:41] TheRowan72: If Simon can bring back Jill, why hasn't he done so already?
[00:41] InvdrDIB: Ah.
[00:42] InvdrDIB: let me see if I can recall...
[00:42] InvdrDIB: One thing is, he sorta needs magical energy.
[00:42] TheRowan72: Where does he get that?
[00:42] InvdrDIB: As I understand it...it comes from thought.
[00:42] InvdrDIB: Emotion...
[00:43] InvdrDIB: ...people trying to apply their intelligence to solve puzzles...
[00:43] TheRowan72: lol
[00:43] InvdrDIB: *smiles*
[00:43] InvdrDIB: You laugh, but actually I'm quite serious.
[00:43] TheRowan72: So that's why all the little things he's been giving us lately.
[00:43] InvdrDIB: or should I say, Simon is.
[00:44] InvdrDIB: I think the fact is that's why this entire game exists at all.
[00:44] InvdrDIB: Well, okay, if Simon wasn't here I probably would have done it anyway.
[00:44] InvdrDIB: though sometimes I wonder...
[00:44] InvdrDIB: but...yeah.
[00:45] TheRowan72: So, what do the other people who helped you with the original game think of this?
[00:45] TheRowan72: Bernie? vis? wunder?
[00:45] InvdrDIB: hmmm.
[00:46] InvdrDIB: I don't think Bernie has really kept up with things. he kinda recruited his friends and then dropped out of touch. I don't think he will really have much input.
[00:46] InvdrDIB: Some of those friends, of course, are vis, wunder and Phoebe. He might have others, I didn't meet everyone involved.
[00:46] InvdrDIB: vis kinda became the head organizer and coder.
[00:46] InvdrDIB: Unfortunately, he seems to have become Simon's confidant.
[00:47] TheRowan72: So that's why he leaves messages for us? To help Simon out?
[00:47] InvdrDIB: Well...
[00:47] InvdrDIB: I think he's just interested in seeing where it all leads.
[00:48] InvdrDIB: how much of what Simon says is really true.
[00:48] InvdrDIB: vis doesn't...scare easily, apparently.
[00:48] InvdrDIB: however.
[00:49] InvdrDIB: It might be possible to convince vis to...do something else.
[00:49] TheRowan72: Like what? Betray Simon?
[00:49] InvdrDIB: maybe.
[00:49] InvdrDIB: okay. let's see...
[00:50] InvdrDIB: one thing Simon told me...an attempt to reassure me, even if he was rather sarcastic about it...
[00:50] TheRowan72: Yes?
[00:50] InvdrDIB: There's a finite time limit to this whole ritual thing. whether it succeeds or fails, Simon will no longer have any reason to bother us afterward.
[00:51] TheRowan72: So after so long, he'll either succeed or fail, and then move on?
[00:51] TheRowan72: Do you know what the timeline is?
[00:51] InvdrDIB: I think so.
[00:51] InvdrDIB: Not exactly...
[00:51] InvdrDIB: although...
[00:51] InvdrDIB: hmmm...
[00:51] InvdrDIB: Jill is going through some journey in the underworld.
[00:52] TheRowan72: I've been reading that.
[00:52] InvdrDIB: It has specific points along the way...
[00:52] InvdrDIB: Things that happen...there's a fixed number.
[00:52] InvdrDIB: It's all based on some old myth.
[00:52] TheRowan72: A fixed number of points she must pass through?
[00:52] InvdrDIB: Right.
[00:52] TheRowan72: Do you know which myth?
[00:52] InvdrDIB: Gates? maybe.
[00:53] InvdrDIB: Hmmm...wait, Simon is interested in Sumerian myth.
[00:53] InvdrDIB: since all other myths are based on those myths, apparently.
[00:53] InvdrDIB: well, I don't know, that's probably debatable, but I know he's said that.
[00:54] InvdrDIB: I think there are seven gates. that sounds about right.
[00:55] TheRowan72: That would fit with the Inanna myth where she visits her sister in the underworld
[00:55] InvdrDIB: And she just went through the second one. Simon sent me an email about that...actually one of you players had something to do with it.
[00:55] InvdrDIB: Inanna! that does sound familiar.
[00:55] TheRowan72: What did we do? Solve that annoying shortest path puzzle?
[00:56] InvdrDIB: heh...no, that wasn't it.
[00:56] InvdrDIB: You sent a message to her and Simon passed it on.
[00:56] TheRowan72: Oh, that weird cross box
[00:56] InvdrDIB: cross the streams?
[00:57] InvdrDIB: sorry...I'm a little on edge...
[00:57] TheRowan72: I didn't tell her to cross the streams - someone else might have tho
[00:57] TheRowan72: It's okay.
[00:58] InvdrDIB: Yeah...so I don't know...I was feeling kind of resigned, but I felt I should talk to someone from the players.
[00:58] TheRowan72: Why me?
[00:59] InvdrDIB: I dunno...
[00:59] InvdrDIB: You seem like the "leader". ;)
[00:59] InvdrDIB: kind of approachable, too.
[00:59] TheRowan72: Pimp maybe. Not a leader.
[00:59] InvdrDIB: Fair enough.
[00:59] InvdrDIB: That's an amusing mental image. :)
[01:00] TheRowan72: I bet.
[01:00] InvdrDIB: "What do you mean, you don't have the money?" *ferrets snarl*
[01:00] TheRowan72: :)
[01:00] InvdrDIB: (vis has told everyone about your ferrets. ;) )
[01:01] TheRowan72: That's not surprising.
[01:01] InvdrDIB: Apparently he likes sending messages to you personally.
[01:01] TheRowan72: Making fun of me you mean.
[01:01] InvdrDIB: Aw. if he knew you said that, he'd be hurt.
[01:02] TheRowan72: I doubt it.
[01:02] TheRowan72: :)
[01:02] InvdrDIB: *smiles*
[01:02] InvdrDIB: Anyway...yeah. I don't really think I have anything else to say.
[01:03] InvdrDIB: though I do feel better for having talked to someone about it. thank you for that, at least. :)
[01:03] TheRowan72: No problems.
[01:04] InvdrDIB: and actually I think you may have given me an idea for how to proceed.
[01:04] TheRowan72: Well that's good.
[01:04] InvdrDIB: though, if you have any further ideas, I'd love to hear them.
[01:05] TheRowan72: Well, I'll let the others know what you've said, and hopefully we can come up with a plan.
[01:05] InvdrDIB: *nods* Thank you.
[01:05] InvdrDIB: now I think I shall go catch some sleep. getting a bit late here.
[01:05] TheRowan72: Same here.
[01:05] TheRowan72: Night.
[01:05] InvdrDIB: Goodnight!

The subject ROT-18's to wunder. The body doesn't appear to ROT, but vignere doesn't seem to work....

BUT....

...you have to understand how nasty I am to vis in this game. See, I started by running the body through a Vignere with the keyword as "wunder". Then, I translated everything into ascii, and translated *that* into my name.

So, the big translation, then....

It's in vignere...after being ROT-8'ed. The key is "wunder".
[PUZZLE] Graphs and shortest path

I've been studying the graph puzzle, trying to find something useful. I found the shortest paths for the pentagram, if you don't include cycles (cycles=visiting nodes more than once).

Please check what I've done. The big problem is that if you are allowed to visit nodes more than once, you can go to that little loop of negatives on the left side an infinite number of times, constantly decreasing the length of all paths to negative infinity.

That might be what symbol4.png is warning about, I'm not sure. If we look at symbol2.png, we can follow the path and get various weights. If I've worked it right, the values are:
-2,-5,-4,1,-6,-3,-1,-3,-2,-3

In the original graph, it looks like the node values should be:
-1,1,4,7,4,9
or if we hit 7 twice:
-1,1,4,7,4,7,9

I'm not sure if the values are supposed to represent letters (maybe an offset from from some central letter?), but this puzzle has been bothering me.

Any ideas?

[UPDATE]3/13 - new wunder music

http://daemon.chaoseed.com/wunder/theme0.mp3
It appears to be the end song of wunder2.mp3....

and it sounds *much* more like the Transformers theme it is. ;-)
