Minor Weirdness

I don't mind If someone has looked into this already, but I was wondering what to make of these two sites.

http://www.violetunderground.com

Of course the original site is long gone. The odd bit is the link topics. Most players from season 1 will remember Violet's interest in Texas Hold'em Poker, on ocassion the links make a kind of sense. Though the rest is just filler which can happen when a domain name is let go.

The other is stranger still.

http://www.perplexcitysentinel.com

Since the prolonged demise of the ARG element to PerplexCity the old news site has been replaced with a site in Japanese regarding dentistry and herbal remedies. I've been using the Yahoo babel fish to see if something of interest had been hidden. But I haven't taken time to dig deeper.

Missing the fun. Any thoughts would be welcome.

PXC Project

OK, it is not an ARG, but for those of you who enjoyed the Perplex City ARG, and the puzzle cards in particular, here is a site that is 'dedicated to where Mind Candy left Perplex City'.

The site (currently in the form of a very sleek blog) accepts player designed puzzle cards (similar to those of PXC), and allows players to solve the puzzles and gain points. Rewards include badges, rankings and promotional cards.

It is early days, but there are some nice puzzles, and things seem to be gaining momentum. Why not take a look here
PXC Project

The puzzly goodness still roams.

Mind candy released their second wave of season 2 cards a while back. I myself have solved them all and was left wondering what was next. Well MC might have given up on PXC but some people havent, we have the all new PXC project. Founded by two relatively new members to PXC, they decided to make some online puzzles in a PXC style, even mimicking the borders of the cards. Answers are easily sent by email submission and points are added on the leaderboard.

I post here to try and attract more people, maybe even get some of the old crew back in action. There are also chances for you to submit your own puzzles and have them made (if you dont possess the graphical skills)

Please join the project, bring back the old days:
Confirmed solve: location of Receda Cube

Right.

I promised that today I'd start answering questions and talking about what happened. Well, genius here has just discovered that he left his wallet and cash cards at his parents' house yesterday so now I have to drive off to get them and it'll probably be evening before I can start posting.

But until then, here's a link to my Flickr set with pics from:

* Thursday's exploration of Fineshade.
* Friday morning's discovery of the Babel 'quadruped' and first digging session in Wakerley (though not the second as it was after dark had fallen)
* Sunday's unsuccessful trench
* The finding of the Cube at about 1.15pm on Sunday
* And some afterwards stuff, including taking it to Ampthill in the snow, where Masquerade ended
It's coming ...

As Thomas Bookmore has pointed out on the official PXC Forums, the 1st Anniversary of the Cube being found by Andy Darley in Wakerley Great Wood and leaving a hole and a card behind for fellow Cube Hunters is almost upon us - February the 2nd, 2007.

The results of a poll over there suggest that people seem to be in favour of doing something to mark the Anniversary.

One suggestion made by goldberg69 is for each of us to send a "cube" to Mind Candy's offices as we did with the paper cranes previously. As he says it might just remind them of how much we love Perplexcity.

Any cube will do (except an ice cube, alas) a die, a rubik's cube, origami, use your imagination - but let's send some cubes to MC and see if we get any response...

Anybody here interested in participating?

[META][UPDATE]Perplexorum closes its doors

Perplexorum closed to new posts on Sunday (11th November), see the thread here for details. I'm sad to see our Perplex City cousins go as we had fun. Adrian adds his goodbye with a song that he should probably be asked to sing at any opportunity anyone has. The lovely _izzy_ thanks the mods and admins here and I'd like to echo that with a large hug and a gin :) . Cheers guys.

SEASON 2 GOES AHEAD-CONFIRMED

received the following back from Mind Candy today,

whilst no definite release date at least we know the second season is on its way

roll on 2008

Hi Kevin, Thanks for the emai
l. Its always good to hear that there is still Perplex City fans out there eagerly awaiting wave 2.
I can confirm season 2 of perplex city will be released as planned. While I would like to provide you with a release date, its simply not possible at this stage. The best I can suggest is to check back with www.perplexcity.com in 2-3 months as nothing will be done with Perplex City in 2007. Next year we plan to release wave 2 followed by the final wave, wave 3. Please accept our apologies in the lack of information that has been circulated, stay tuned for more updates. Best wishes and happy puzzling,Ben @ Perplex City Customer Care

[UPDATE] Violet Underground - 4th May 2007

Key-generated Transcript:

Right. I'm officially closing the file on the Missing Piece case. It's over. It's time to move on. And a particularly juicy mystery is-

No, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I can't work like this. This is ridiculous. This supposedly luxury pad is dripping! Just look.

It's ridiculous! I know I'm not actually paying rent, but someone is! And they're not paying for these conditions! This has been going on for days now. I called the building supervisor, but he can't do anything because my name's not on the lease.

And it's not just the drips. The water pressure is low, and my morning shower has turned into a morning trickle! Gah!

Look, I know this is hardly the high-octane sleuthing you signed up for, but.. could you help me out with this? Kurt had found a plan of the building's plumbing. Can you please find out where these drips are coming from?

Oh, go on... please?

Key Transcript Ends

Oh, and there are a number of things related to the Hausam-era plumbing that you might find it helpful to know:

The building's main entrance is on West Caldera Street. It's got four floors and a basement. My flat is the one on the corner overlooking the Park, which means I get to look at joggers sweating their way around the trails in the morning, and feel grateful for another hour in bed.
There are people in the flats directly above and below mine, but none in the basement - just the caretaker's office in there. You know, the one who won't listen to me? Anyway, yes, two flats on the ground floor, and four on the other floors.
Flat #1 is the flat to your left when you're standing at the entrance on the ground floor, which makes Flat #2 the one on the right! On the floor above, Flat #3 is the flat on the left nearest to the entrance, and then they're numbered clockwise going from there.
The building has two sets of water pipes, all with fresh cold water. Kurt says it's to stop water pressure issues. My money is on incompetent plumbers.
Each flat receives its water from under the floor boards, so the leak can't be coming from my own water supply - according to the ceiling, the water is clearly coming from above me someplace. I wanted to use the other water supply to address my pressure issue (there's nothing like being itchy all day from shampoo you couldn't rinse out), but it apparently doesn't run through any of the walls or floor of my flat.
Kurt tells me the leak is coming from the flat that receives its water 12 flats before mine, based on some sort of necromancy he conducted involving water pressure. I guess we'll just have to trust him on this one.

Shuffled, Solved at Last!

Congratulations to UKVer2.0 for solving Shuffled, at long last! I salute you, sir.

And now, your prize: A little secret, and an extra taste of how Season 1 was. (Here's to licking the spoon.) Once you solved the card, you were supposed to email Garnet and ask him about it. Garnet was to point you to a Sentinel article, to wit:
I'm posting this to both Perplexorum and Unfiction so everyone can share the news.

Good work, everybody. You continue to awe and inspire me. Love you madly, miss you badly!
