[OFF TOPIC] Semacode reader for PC?

Sorry to post this here but this seems to be the only forum on the whole of Unfiction where anyone's mentioned semacode. I'm wondering if anyone's aware of any windows-based software for reading semacodes. I know there's linux-based server software over at http://www.semacode.org (and, incidentally, they've included a scan of The Postcard in their blog too) but ideally I'd like something I can use on the win-based boxen at work. My C++ is way too weak after 5 years of atrophy to try to port their source :(

Just figured this might come in useful around here....

Any Aussies found Wave 4 stockists?

I have been trying to find Australian retailers that will stock Wave 4 cards (either in the mixed or pure packs) on 31st July with no success.

Since MC have stated in the Sentinel that the Australian players will have to wait until 3am the next day (east coast) to solve the cards, I would have though that the cards would be avialble somewhere in the country.

I have asked the Australian distributor Croftminster via their 'Talk to Croftminster' forum here , but as yet haven't heard anything.

Has anyone else managed to find anywhere that sells Wave 4 in Aus?? If not, people may want to consider adding their voice to the above forum.

Cheers,
[OOG] Wii

If there's any other Unfictioners who have a Wii and are willing to share friend codes, my number is 6150 5908 8417 1559. There's not much to do with them yet (though I have a Satoshi Mii ready to travel to other consoles; other Perplexians to follow), I think it would be fun to play against fellow Cube Hunters once more online-capable games are released. And who knows - Mind Candy may do something with Nintendo WiFi someday!

Perplex City Card Manager set icons

Hi
It's got to the point where I think I need to be preparing the card manager for the next wave of cards. In order for the new cards to be visible, I need to create some icons to represent the new card sets.

To set the scene a little - I can't draw. Never could. Luckily the set icons so far haven't been that tough to come up with - open the gimp, scan, trace, tweak has been the formula up to now (a circle is about the most taxing it's been). However, some creative so-and-so at MindCandy has decided to make my life difficult - all the new ones have got *bendy lines* for goodness sake, and try as I might I can't find the gimp's 'ivy' tool ...

So, I think I might need a hand. Is there anyone out there who thinks they could help me out, and come up with some icons for the three remaining sets (ivy, flames, water)? They need to be 16x16 transparent pngs - I've included the 5 current icons below for reference.

Any help given will be gratefully received - I'm sure we could come up with some cards-for-icons barter scheme if needs be.

Many thanks
UBfunkeys: I smell some candy

Just got this from Firebox:

http://www.firebox.com/product/1804?itc=66&src_t=nwt&src_id=153
or
http://tinyurl.com/2fwyrt

...the online RPG/ARG element looks suspiciously mindcandy-ish, and the age bracket is right.

One big doubt though: not Mac compatible. Now they wouldn't do that to us would they?

If it is, do I get a free one for first spotting? ;-)
Text Drugs & Rock 'n' Roll - GuyP Presentation

It's really weird posting a new topic here.

Anyway - GuyP posts a version of his Reader/Writer mashup presentation at his blog .

It mentions PXC a couple of times, but the bit that leads me to post is that although it has been mentioned before that the wiki was useful to the PMs (I think Naomi or Andrea mentioned it) Guy gives the specific example of:

One of the ways the community of Perplex City players improved the experience for everyone (even those who didn't participate) is through the creation of the Perplex City Wiki. Like a mini-Wikipedia for the world of our game, it documented every single blog post, event and clue in the story. It was so detailed that we started referring to it ourselves - because the players didn't know what was important and what wasn't, they wrote down everything, whereas we only wrote down what we planned on being significant. So when we needed one of our characters to naturally meet someone from a certain company, we were thrilled to consult his entry on the player wiki and discover he'd briefly dated someone there six months previously.

referring to Kurt meeting Karen Moro. I don't think that we've had that specific example before.

video clarification

I would like to clear something up fFor the record. Remember the old newspaper video? The one of driving through the streets of japan at night?
There was endless discussion on the Forums about one word in the voice over, whether it was "Curve" or "Curtain." It was never decided fFor sure, with people leaning towards 'curve.'

I now have an answer. In talking with Andrea, who wrote and recorded it, it is "Curtain."

Here's the video, fFor old time's sake:
http://unfiction.com/files/pxc/video.mov

And here's the now-locked conversation about it:
[Question] String puzzle?

Wasn't there a puzzle with knotted string in this game.. or as a puzzle card?

We have this new trailhead and are stuck on the puzzle:

link showing the letter and barcode puzzles

I think that the puzzle solving fiends here might be able to solve this one.
Note: the "I" shape on the letter is an artifact from the scanner.

GuyP leaving MC as well

http://www.vexappeal.com/2007/07/bye-candy.html

As almost a matter of cleaning up left over Perplexian debris left around the office, Guy blogs about his leaving Mind Candy in a month's time. He teases us with his work on the as-yet-unnamed-project, but more or less leaves it at that. Oh and you can see him at The Writer/Reader Mashup seminar in London.

My wife just bought the BOX of cards for Season Two. -Our first exposure to PXC.

How long before these cards start showing up at work? We are about two weeks in. . . The separation bettween work and home life is fading; I think there are cards that found their way into my bag that want to get out and PLAY!!!

Educational paradigm - help needed

Hi all,

As well as lurking and posting a bit around here for the last few months, I'm also (in my other life) a lecturer in a University. I've thought for a while now that the puzzle/community aspects of Perplex City would be great ways to motivate and engage students, and I'm just putting together a new course which is based around these ideas (with some social and learning theory thrown in).

I wondered whether, now that there's a bit of a limbo ;-) some of you kind and intelligent souls wouldn't mind looking over my plan, and offering any ideas/thoughts/comments/criticisms. Particularly if you are/were/will be a History or indeed any other student.

The outline is at:
http://www2.le.ac.uk/Members/am14/HS1000InternetSkills

Any feedback gratefully received!
Alex (jb).
