The Art of the Heist campaign was one of the four finalists at the April 19th "Battle of the Brands" held in NYC at NBC's Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center. Although it didn't win the top prize, it was awarded the "Creativity Award".

If you participated in Heist on any level, and are coming to ARGFest NY, we'd like to interview you for a promotional film. The film would be used to promote the campaign and hopefully help us continue finding clients to do this kind of project.

The guy who shook my hand and offered me a brochure when I was rifling trough the A3 was not in fact the general manager of the dealership, it was Brian Cain, PM extraordinaire. At least I think it was.

Though I didn't say so, I knew this at the time, because in my attempt to discover where the dealership was located prior to driving to Atlanta, I contacted Mike Mouchette, the general manger of Jim Ellis Audi. :wink:

Found this article while doing some news searches on 'art heist'. Part of the article talks about a documentary about the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum theft which was what the Andre / Russian case was partly based on.

A snippet from the article:

Among the standout documentaries was Rebecca Dreyfus' "Stolen," a fascinating exploration of largest art heist in modern history, still unsolved, in which two thieves disguised as Boston cops entered the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, making off with 13 priceless works of art. One of the more fascinating aspects of the documentary was the unexpected discovery of its most compelling character, art investigator Harold Smith, who is tragically disfigured due to skin cancer resulting from a military experiment, but remains full of enthusiasm and wit. "I guess that's what you hope happens in a documentary," Dreyfus told indieWIRE, "that you go about your business and you stumble upon something that changes the course of your film... We went to do an expert interview with Harold, and it turned out that he was kind of flabbergasted that we were doing this, because he had his own private obsession about what had happened to the Gardner art. So I think we opened the door to that, and once we met him he started calling us every day... it just kind of unfolded very naturally."

Another unexpected treat in "Stolen" is the beautiful camera work of legendary documentarian Albert Maysles ("Grey Gardens," "Salesman"), a mentor to Dreyfus who graciously agreed to help her shoot the film. "It was really cool," says Dreyfus, "and what was particularly cool about it was that I'd been getting a lot of feedback... because the main character in my film is physically disfigured, people have been saying to me the way he's photographed, which was a lot by Albert, is with so much love. He approaches his subject with so much love that even though this man is disfigured you wind up loving him."

Sounds like an interesting movie to watch when we're in that art theft mood :D

[OT] Stupid Treo Tricks

This is a different subject then getting a branded Treo unlocked.

These things are great for communicating in a variety of ways, and it's possible that they will have an impact on our ARG'ing efforts well after Heist is over. So this thread is about ticks to make your smartphone smarter from an ARG standpoint.

The Treo 650 can use 8 bit mono .wav files as a ringtone, you can find the directions here (it says the directions are for the Sprint variant of the phone, but the directions worked fine on my unbranded model); there is also an option to use a voice recorder to make a custom ringtone on the spot by just talking into your phone. In this way you can create a unique but innocuous sounding ring so that the "uninitiated" don't necessarily know you're getting a call or text.

I believe it was Diandra who suggests Kinoma for viewing mpeg4 files on your smartphone (and PSP actually, very exciting). This would have come in handy when worry sent me that movie of the goons... If only I had an unlocked phone I could actually use at the time. :) I haven't had time to try it out quite frankly, but everybody else with a Treo on the Internet seems to love it. :)

Okay, that was my last break before I go back to cramming for the GMAT, which I take Monday morning.

I got an email invitation today from Audi to be at the live conclusion of The Heist on June 29th at 8:03pm in Santa Monica. Here is a photo of the invite.

If you bought a new Cingular T650 and paid full price (no subsidy or change in contract length), then you can call Cingular tech support (ask the CSR to transfer you) and ask them to give you the SIM Subsidy Unlock Code. They will ask you to fax them your original invoice and your IMEI number (just photocopy the side of the box with all of the info), plus your cell number. They then give you an 8-digit code (takes a minute or 2 on their end). At the Treo 650 phone screen, you then type in:
*#*# then 8-digit code then #
and then hit the green dial button. You should get a message back that confirms unlock. Now you have a fully unlocked Treo 650 world phone.
Worked great for me-YMMV.
For my international colleagues, there is no reason why you could not try to find one at a Cingular store, pay US$549 full price (no contract), and then get it unlocked. Note that Pa1mOne is offering existing Treo users an upgrade path witn an included BT headset for the same $549 through their web site (http://web.palmone.com/promos/treo650_bluetooth.jhtml?cid=ace_cing_order). Just say that you have an existing Cingular contract and then pay the full fare. This will need to ship to a US address-maybe a friend here could then ship it on to you.
