Doctoral dissertation including ARGs for education published

Hi all!

I just finished my doctoral dissertation that includes research on using ARGs for education. It is titled: "Gameful Approaches for Computer Science Education: From Gamification to Alternate Reality Games", and if you are interested to take a look, it can be found here: http://urn.fi/URN:ISBN:978-952-60-6173-3
(The summary of the dissertation is freely available as pdf, but if you are also interested in the articles of the dissertation but can't access them, just send me a message...)

The dissertation includes research involving an ARG called "Stop Toilworn Diamond" that was discussed in Unfiction here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=37576
If any of the ARG participants are reading this, I want to say a big thanks to you all! I had a great time organizing it :)

Questions for the community about ARGs for a research paper

I'm currently writing a term paper about the ways that ARGs affect the way we think about the 'real world'. Basically my thesis is that playing ARGs makes you more perceptive and better at problem solving. I was wondering if anyone has any personal experience with this that I could talk about in my paper.

So,
Do you think that you are more aware of your surroundings now than before you started playing?
&
How do you think ARGs help to develop these skills?

Thanks,
Looking for ARGERS and panelists for convention

I am putting together a convention for December 13th 2014, from 10am to 10pm, a one day event held on Jekyll Island, GA at the Jekyll Island Convention Center. This event will be the first fandom convention ever held in the Golden Isles.

A percentage of the profits are being raised to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, a charity to raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members. We are also raising money for the Shriners Hospitals for children.

Being in the southeast US, there aren't many people locally who are versed on the subject of ARGs, but at cons in Atlanta and Savannah I've found not only closet TINAGers but people interested in playing that don't know where to start.

I been playing since Marble Hornets and Ny Takma, even creating an ARG of my own shortly after. But I haven't kept up with the times lately due to scheduling.

If you're interested in this event, you can email me directly at adamforcephoto(splattt)gmail(dot)calm.

Thanks!

How do players change the storyline?

Hi guys, I'm interested in using ARG in a science class. I need to design an ARG for the students, but I have a question here. How do the players' behaviors and decisions change the story of the game? If you can could you please give me an example? Thank you!

PhD Thesis Survey on ARG Players and PMs

Apologies if you've already seen this, it fell off the thread and I wanted to repost in case I missed anyone!

I'm currently doing some research for my PhD Thesis on ARGs. The main focus is on promotional ARGs for movies and the player/puppetmaster relationship.

I would be eternally grateful if you could spare 15-20 minutes to fill out my player survey and encourage others to do so too:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ARGPlayers

It'll be open until the end of May, and its totally anonymous but if you think it's interesting and would be willing to have a longer chat about your experiences as a player (or indeed as a player/PM) please feel free to get in touch! I'm happy to receive any feedback on the survey via unfiction as well. You can find out a bit more about my research here:

Thank You!

Talk about a pervasive game!

This might actually be the precursor to modern ARG's except, of course, since it's Borges, so there's nothing "alternate" about it!
