This problem is poor. Please give time to calculate the product and sums of these sets of ages.

1,2and 18
0.5, 4.5 and 16

The answer to the problem is that the ages of the three children CANNOT be determined.
My child was given this problem and she is 12 years old. If teachers can't get it right I feel sorry for the kids.

Got the answer on my second guess but according to Wikipedia , Led Zeppelin

formed in August 1968

so I don't see how

they would have been around in July

Actually, it's more confusing than that.
The date of Led Zeppelin's formation is a little difficult to pinpoint. The date used by Wikipedia is when Jimmy Page asked Robert Plant to join, followed by Chris Dreja leaving and the other members joining. However, the band initially performed as "The New Yardbirds" (although even then they had to play a few gigs as "The Yardbirds" for contractual reasons). They didn't agree to change their name until after the New Yardbirds Scandinavian tour, and their first public performance as "Led Zeppelin" (which is rather the point of the card) wasn't until:

25th October 1968

- all of which is a rather long-winded way of saying that I'm afraid we have to chalk this up as another disappointingly-implemented card... :wink:

Yes, I'm afraid empirical evidence upholds the accepted solve. I wrote a program to run through 10,000 tests of how long it would take to generate all numbers from 1 to 140 using a random number generator. It came up with

140.038.

Of course this depends on the quality of the random number generator. The first time I created the program on a platform with a not-so-good random number generator because after 10,000 tests it came up with an answer of

141.101!

So, I copied it to a different platform and came up with the right answer.

The code translates as:

Well I had an alternative solution for this one

Light both ends of the first fuse then fold the second one in half and light both new ends

unfortunately they dont have these options :cry:
