As if it wasn't final enough, the supplementary material has been taken down and the splash page has been replaced with a picture of VaporLofts and the words;
Much more like an [update] 6 Nov 2006

Delusional found that the VaporLofts site was updated recently. Of most direct interest is one particular page

New information and pages published on the site are unfinished supplements and extra (sometimes redundant) material in the Vaporlofts story.

Originally, a second story arc / sequel read more was planned to complement the original storyline and further develop the scope of the Vaporlofts reality from the perspective of The Firekeepers. Plans for future development of this arc have been stopped indefinitely - no new work is planned for release in the Vaporlofts/Firekeepers storyline. The auxiliary directory contains the incomplete page files that were intended to lead up to The Firekeepers and are posted as "bonus" material that might be of interest to the readers of Vaporlofts.

To everyone at ARGNet and to the members of the Unfiction message boards:

---> Thank You <---

Thanks to you, PM! The content here is fascinating to followers of this ARG of yore.

Not much of an update but I just noticed THIS .

Parent Directory 17-Sep-2006 11:53

First an update (sort of) with Qu13e and now this. :)

I haven't seen any changes yet, but I'll look around a bit.

I was cleaning out all my old contacts in my ARG email account, when I noticed details[-at-]vaporlofts.com. Out of curiosity I decided to send an email. Not really thinking I would get a reply or at most an auto responder I just sent "?" and that's it. Well about four hours later I received this:

"What'd he say to you?"

"Oh... well, about Life being a game and all. And how you should play it according to the rules. He was pretty nice about it. I mean, he didn't hit the ceiling or anything. He just kept talking about Life being a game and all. You know."

"Life is a game, boy. Life is a game that one plays according to the rules."

"Yes, sir. I know it is. I know it."

Game, my ass. Some game. If you get on the side where all the hot-shots are, then it's a game, all right - I'll admit that. But if you get on the other side, where there aren't any hot-shots, then what's a game about it? Nothing. No game.

Now I don't think this is the start of another round of vaporlofts nor do I think we should start bombarding them with emails. I just thought It was kind of interesting so I decided to share it. I am interested in any spec anyone may have regarding it's meaning. Perhaps it's dialog from a book? IDK.

Edit: I knew I recognized that quote, It just took me a bit. It's from:
The Catcher In The Rye.

What has happened to this game?

Are the PMs waiting on us to do something, or what?

It seems rather, I dunno, difficult to get somewhere if we don't know where to go.

They've been good thus far at pointing us back in the right directions, but we haven't had updates in WEEKS no. Is the game dead?

[META] Questions for the PMs!

I realize the curtain's going to stay closed on this, but if there's any way we can get any sort of communications going with them, then I have a question. Personally, all of mine are meta, but it would probably be a good idea to centralize any questions in case they decide to give an answer in one form or another. And thus the thread is :)

So, my question!

Why exactly did I specifically get package with the Hell Money and the t-shirt? I was very grateful for it, and I love the shirt, but I'm just sort of wondering why only player got one, and why the PM team decided that I'd be that one player. What's up with that?

So, um, I guess just go ahead and put those questions here, and we'll see what happens!

[PUZZLE] [NOV 10] 4th picture on floorplans -> coffin

http://vaporlofts.com/floorplans.html now has the 4th pic online. But it's not a picture rather than http://vaporlofts.com/floor1aux.html .
Instead of the 4th image the 5th is now "currently unavailable". VL is a funny company.

The new page has the description "Floorplans (Revision 1 - supplemental)" and the name...floor1aux...auxiliary?...both suggests that this is going to help in some way with...what? floor1c.jpg ?

The page contains a picture with the name windows.jpg which shows bright light from the left window and darkness on the right side.
The alt text says:
Windows can be opened. Windows can be closed.
But not all windows will remain locked. Not all windows will remained closed.
There is darkness in the room. There is light through the window.
Turn left. Turn right. Turn left behind. There is nothing in the darkness.
There is nothing in the light.
It does not seem to be stegged (as I thought the opening-windows-stuff could suggest).

There's also this riddle:
Who makes it has no need of it.
Who buys it has no use for it.
Who uses it can neither see nor feel it.
I think everyone knows the solution is "coffin". Don't tell me I spoiled that for you (I had to put it in the topic of this thread, sorry!

Like so many times before, this leads us to http://vaporlofts.com/coffin.html .

The page appears to have two broken pictures - actually both of them are coffin.jpg which doesn't exist (yet) - and another mp3 file .

The alt text of the upper one:
For this locked room, there is no key.

We will keep the door closed.
Uh-oh, that doesn't sound good...
Btw: The space contains "invisible" characters which are not highlightable (word?) within the source.

And the alt text of the lower one (only fully visible in the source):
23/01/06 - Anne's Live Journal Deleted

Error

Journal has been deleted. If you are point_system, you have a period of 30 days to decide to undelete your journal.

So, is this an implosion?

Perhaps we are meant to save her from the clutches of vaporloft by hitting them over the head with our vast cache of unsolved problems and dead ends?

By the way, it's probably a bit late now, but hey Orbicon just finished and I've got some spare time: I don't think there has been prior mention of file0813.mp3 in the gateway/images folder, nor the enigmatic http://vaporlofts.com/gateway/images/numbers.html.
I dunno about the numbers html, but 0813.mp3 has
"The automatic controls take over in the absence of agent command. Protective shielding falls into place; power generators wind up, sending necessary energy to the appropriate places, powering the fields necessary for containment. She looks around the room, bewildered."
in the id3 tags.

[UPDATE] [DEC 13] Paris and agent90426 directories

paris directory
http://vaporlofts.com/paris/

Trust - for some reason written like "Tru$t" - in big red letters, complete with a definition of the word:

#1 Firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing.
#2 Custody; care.
#3 Something committed into the care of another; charge.
#4 1. The condition and resulting obligation of having confidence placed in one: violated a public trust.
2. One in which confidence is placed.
#5 Reliance on something in the future; hope.
#6 Reliance on the intention and ability of a purchaser to pay in the future; credit.

We have seen this before and know that big words like that usually have a link and this is no exception: http://vaporlofts.com/paris/trust.html

It says:

trust, faith, confidence, reliance, dependence [again, in - although not as big as the other one - big red letters]
These nouns denote a feeling of certainty that a person or thing will not fail. Trust implies depth and assurance of feeling that is often based on inconclusive evidence.

And there's another mp3, this time accompanied by a picture that looks like it was taken from a tool like Audacity.
Does it suggest we should try the mp3s in such a tool and see something ?

agent90426 directory
http://vaporlofts.com/agent90426/

There are some dots now, so it's not completely empty any more.

It's Braille for How do you fix a leak?
Not that again. Might the answer be another URL?
A call to all players of the VaporLofts game in Atlanta!

I have no idea what header I should use for this.

I've been discussing ARGs and VaporLofts in particular with the person resonsible for pointing me towards VaporLofts, and he brought up the fact that games like ilovebees and its ilk really utilized the "real-world" scenarios suggested by their game, like forcing players to visit specific locations and implement specific plans once there.

So, I'm thinking - if we have any players of the VaporLofts ARG in Atlanta - could I possibly convince you to go skulking about the older parts of Atlanta to try and find the buildings VaporLofts showed to Anne?

Thus far we've no way to determine if those buildings actually exist in Atlanta , and if they do actually exist in Atlanta, then there may be clues waiting for us in them - clues we could use to solve the puzzles that we have yet to solve.

So please, any Atlanta players, or at least any players who live near Atlanta who would be willing to do something like this - it'd be lovely if you could.

Just a thought.

(An Update on the Email Situation: So far, no reply to my email. This isn't surprising - she probably split IC shortly after writing her post, I bet.)
