[META] Hellos & Introductions

-- Heres the obligatory Roll-Call/Hello/Introductions thread --

Hello, chippy here. I'm very much looking forward to playing this :) played a few ARGs before, and its nice to be in on this one from the start. A good puzzle is always nice, collaborative playing is always better, and evil cubes well...

I particulary like the global nature of this one, its going to be big! nice to see new faces too, welcome...and... Horray for Joop (and his space monkey siblings)!

namaste.
[META] The Lost Experience and Lost Viewers

The ratings and total viewers of the Lost season 3 premiere matched those of the season 2 finale. Still, the show was down 25% from the season 2 premiere:

Meanwhile, several news outlets have made note of the fact that the Lost season-three premiere was down 25 percent from its season two debut. The episode, which aired Wednesday, October 4, was watched by 18.9 million compared to 23.5 million in September of last year.

from this site .

So what does this mean for the success of the Lost Experience? My interpretation is that they successfully hung onto viewers who remained curious about the cliffhanger endings of the finale. But they were not successful in drawing more viewers to the actual show.

I was surprised that the ratings didn't increase, at least a tiny bit, because of the Lost Experience.

So, just how successful was the Lost Experience if it didn't help the show increase the number of viewers? I realize that some of the Lost Experience players may be watching the show on itunes or on the ABC website - still I expected the numbers to go up.

Any thoughts?

Note: some people seem to think that the Season 2 premiere numbers were skewed because of the intense interest in the hatch...I guess people were interested in the hatch and then left when the resolution of that story was not satisfying and neither was the switch of focus to the tail section people. But my question is about the Lost Experience and whether it brought in viewers.

How much TV discussion should occur in #lostexp now?

Assuming that TLE will continue with a new game during the winter hiatus,
and that #lostexp will become active again, how should we use the channel until then?

We want to keep the channel active enough to not lose it, but there may not be much left to discuss which is directly tied to TLE. It is *possible* that things may show up in Season 3 of the TV show which relate to information we have learned over the summer, and people may want to feel free to discuss it. However, the UK and Aussie markets will not have easy access to the Season 3 episodes as they air in the States. (Yes, there are ways, but not everyone has the ability to download, nor the desire to skip ahead of their own broadcast schedule.) (And yes, there are other channels such as #ctu and #bigspaceship1 for LOST spoilers, but they haven't been playing TLE with us.)

So, feel free to debate the pros and cons in this thread, whether or not you choose to vote. I hope I have itemized enough options.

p.s., Remember that the Unforums are still not the place for discussions of the TV show as it stands alone. There are other forums for that. And if/when another Lost Experience game fires up, the mandate for the IRC channel will focus on the game and not the show.

Here goes, I am trying to put together a highlight reel for friends of mine who did not play TLE at all this summer. I would like to play it before we watch the premiere this wednesday. I am looking for anyone who saved vids or knows of an easy way to rip them off youtube.

[LIST] Unanswered Questions

Now that the game is over, I feel that it's appropriate to compile a list of questions that were never answered, sub-plots that were left unfinished, or character who were never quite fleshed out. This thread can be used to indicate the weaknesses and strengths of the writing, among other things. Let's try to be as wide-ranging as possible, bringing up questions from even early May. I want to have a complete list here. If no one minds, I will re-edit this first post to include all of the questions so far. The best list so far of unanswered questions is this one from the Lost Experiences Clues message board, but if anyone here has anything to add, feel free to post about it in this thread.

General topics: Gary Troup, William T. Kilpatrick, Apollo Bars, Glyphs, Malik, Rachel, Magnus Hanso, Mittelwerk

Hey,

I was just wondering about all the information on the sri lanka video.

do you think that it will be explained in the show itself? or will it be assumed that everyone knows what it means?

i only ask as my friend is a lost fan, and doesnt want me to tell her anything she'd consider a 'spoiler' for the show. but i dont know how they'll approach the subject in the show, or even if they will.

[Question] downloadable copy of the sri lanka video

sort of a side-question thing. I know *someone* must have a fFully assembled copy of the whole sri lanka video. I've seen it assembled on youtube, fFor example. But I'd really like to have a copy of it, as in saved-to-my-hard-drive, so I can watch it later, years after youtube explodes and hanso_exposed is taken down.

in a similar vein, if anyone knows how to save videos fFrom youtube, that might be nice too.

any assistance?
anyone want to take a stab at this one?

Honestly, I think it only gets worse after that... they start the phase two, solve a ridiculously easy puzzle to get a redundant prize.

*sigh* its hard for a lost fan as myself to keep playing.

[META] Letter from the Lost Ninja (BIG PICTURE ALERT)

While picking up my Apollo Bars, I managed to take a picture of the Letter sent to the Aussie comic book shops that the Lost Ninja contacted while the guy at the counter wasn't looking:

August 29, 2006

Many thanks for agreeing to be involved in The LOST Experience.

The LOST Experience is an interactive, multiplatform game, which began in early May. The experience echoes the story of the TV show, which follows a group of people whose airplane crashes on an enchanted island full of supernatural mysteries and threats.

The game, of a genre called alternate-reality games, is a multimedia treasure hunt that makes use of e-mail messages, phone calls, commercials and web sites.

The next phase os the LOST Experience revolves around Apollo Bars . Throughout Australia, the US and the UK Apollo bars are being handed out. The bars lead people to www.whereisalvar.com where the hunt for "Golden oracle" Bars begin and there is a message that once enough of the world is watching, further instructions will be given......

We're asking Australian LOST fans to get involved and take photographic proof they've revieved the truth and to add their face to www.whereisalvar.com.

As mentioned on the telephone we will mention your store on the LOST Ninja's Blog located at www.yahoo7.com.au/LOST over the next week or so.

When fans come into the store, they will ask "What did one snowman say to the other?" Asking this will earn them a bar! By the way, the correct answer is "Smells like carrots".

So expect some people coming in asking for Apollo Bars. otherwise feel free to hand them out to your customers.

Thanks again for getting involved. If you have any questions please Don't hesitate to contact:

If you know your ARG Etiquette, don't email Tom until the ARG is over, but once it is, thank him for a job well done. :P

EDIT - WAY TOO BIG picture removed, since 1.) it's TOO BIG and 2.) because it completely negates the Spoiler tag above. Also, removed contact info - celina63

Possible clue that might lead to glyph

on the channel 4 (UK) lost site:

http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/L/lost/index.html

if u search below the navigation bar on the left there is a hidden link to:

http://geo.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/T/thisisaknife/index.jsp

I think it may be possibly linked to the lost experience seeing as a link like that is not likely to be an accident and has been deliberately coded in.... if it is to do with TLE then it might lead to a glyph or something... does anyone have any ideas or answers to this? i have searched some of the site so far and found nothing but it just seems suspicious to me................
