[Meta] Not really IG updates and stuff.....

First checking http://www.thewishcomic.com/ I noticed it was different from what I remember. The image was added on Jun 29th 2007 according to the directory, all the hosting site images are in there to so mabey he just moved the site.

Then on www.catchingthewish.com I went and checked the image dir. and was redirected to http://www.narrativemarketing.com/ . Surely not IG, I just hadn't seen it before.

Also I don't remember this page http://www.chasingthewish.net/comicpage1.html . (ohhhh a collectors item)

That's all, nothing terribly exciting.

[META] Now that CTW2 has ended...

First, I'd like to thank *all* the BTS people at CTW2: it couldn't have been easy managing all those websites and emails with so few of you.

My favorite character was Sarah.
I have a niece who's an artist, a cousin who's a librarian, and a friend who was abused as a child. I think that's why I was so drawn to her. She was so familiar to me.
Addie captured a blend of their temperaments exactly.
Kudos to Addlepated!

I have to admit that I have felt at a loss during parts of this game. Were there sites that we didn't find that would have filled in the gaps?

Will there be a post-game chat?

How were the characters able to make leaps of discovery?

Just wanted to say that barring some kind of "Sixth Sense" revelation, I'll be very interested to learn how we were supposed to find certain things in this game.
The most glaring examples I see, currently, are around the docs Bruce stole from Marzent.
I see no way the characters are able to make the cavernous leaps of discovery given what was presented. It's like they no longer "need our help".
[SPEC] Dale's Lastest Journal Entry and The 307 Symbol

Just some more or my weird thoughts and another place for us to discuss the subject.

The image from Dale's latest journal entry located here http://www.thewishcomic.com/images/diagram1.jpg

Notice the top row with the empty box - what I believe goes in that box is (the collective unconscious/collective memory/ transpersonal memory. )

[google]collective memory collective unconscious[/google]

While we are at it notice how there are 3 boxes at the top a circle in the middle and 7 boxes at the bottom. So we see the 307 symbol once again only this time from a different perspective.

[INFO] Turing Principle

Some info on the turing principle and Alan Turing.
Google Searches:
[google]Alan Turing Principle[/google]
[google]Turing Principle[/google]

This is interesting: Turing Principle

Theoretical physicist David Deutsch states that the Turing principle (an extrapolation from the Church-Turing conjecture) is "what makes reality comprehensible". A grand claim, but one that is explicable.

Deutsch initially states the Turing principle as follows:

There exists an abstract universal computer whose repertoire includes any computation that any physically possible object can perform

Deutsch's use of the phrase "abstract computer" allows for the use of quantum computers, which sidesteps many of the limits of current computing technology.

Deutsch then states that a genuine universal computer must be a physically real object, since a purely abstract computer is not limited by what is or is not computable. As such, Deutsch rephrases the Turing principle:

It is possible to build a universal computer: a machine that can be programmed to perform any computation that any other physical object can perform.

This rephrasing of the principle increases a universal computer's abilities; whereas before an abstract universal computer could simulate any physical object, now a physical universal computer can simulate any other physical universal computer.

Deutsch now proposes connecting our universal computer (capable of simulating any physical phenomenon) to what he calls a "universal image generator"; a machine capable of stimulating a human brain in such a way as to simulate, within a human mind, any environment one can program into the generator. The current technological unfeasibility of such a machine is set aside by the acknowledgement that creating one will eventually be possible.

The joining of the universal computer with the universal image generator now allows us to simulate, within the human mind, anything physically possible. Deutsch labels this creation a "universal virtual-reality generator", and rephrases the Turing principle again to support it:

It is possible to build a virtual-reality generator whose repertoire includes that of every other physically possible virtual-reality generator.

This phraseology can be simplified, if one accepts that the universal virtual-reality generator can render any physically possible environment, to the following:

It is possible to build a virtual-reality generator whose repertoire includes every physically possible environment.

In essence, this form of the Turing principle tells us that the whole of physical reality can be described by a vastly smaller part of that reality. This property of the universe (or multiverse) is called self-similarity.

It is the property of self-similarity which, Deutsch argues, allows the human mind to understand anything. The human mind itself is a virtual-reality generator which creates a simulation of physical reality from sensory data.

Here, in Deutsch's words, is the summation:

If the laws of physics as they apply to any physical object or process are to be comprehensible, they must be capable of being embodied in another physical object - the knower. It is also necessary that processes capable of creating such knowledge be physically possible. Such processes are called science. Science depends on experimental testing, which means physically rendering a law's predictions and comparing it with (a rendering of) reality. It also depends on explanation, and that requires the abstract laws themselves, not merely their predictive content, to be capable of being rendered in virtual reality...The laws of physics, by conforming to the Turing principle, make it physically possible for those same laws to become known to physical objects. Thus, the laws of physics may be said to mandate their own comprehensibility.

[META] Catching the Wish wiki at Wikia

I've started doing some work at the Catching the Wish wiki. So far, I've basically been creating stubs (small pages with little content) for some of the characters and businesses . Anyone who wants to help flesh out the pages (or add new ones where needed) is more than welcome to. Anyone can edit (practically) any page on the wiki, and you don't have to register if you don't want to. Don't worry if you've never used a wiki before, any mess you make can be easily cleaned up.

As this ARG gets more complex, the wiki could be a great source for character bios, story recaps, and puzzle trails if we maintain it. Does anyone know if the wiki founder is on these boards?

[INFO]A Lesson in Binary Decoding

Now for a little bit about binary code, in case anyone would like to know more.
First here is a good base converter courtesy of Rogi http://rogi.ocnorb.googlepages.com/BaseConverter.HTML
And here is a good ASCII table http://www.neurophys.wisc.edu/www/comp/docs/ascii.html
Or this one if you only need a binary / octal / hex to text converter http://nickciske.com/tools/binary.php
But, if your unfamilar with how this works, the first two are great learning tools. They were good refesher tools for me since I haven't done this stuff in years and had forgotten most everything but the basics.
I'll break down the code from mystes.com/alchemical which got archetypal.

01100001011100100110001101101000011001010111010001111001011100000110000101101100

First break the numbers down into groups of 8 unless you use this http://nickciske.com/tools/binary.php if so leave it the way it is.

01100001
01110010
01100011
01101000
01100101
01110100
01111001
01110000
01100001
01101100

Next using Rogi's Base Converter, put the the number into the entry box label 2 then click on any other box and the number is automatically converted for you. Next look at the box labeled 10 and read the number that appears in it and then go to the ASCII table and look that number up in the first column when you find it reading across you will find the associated letter of the alphabet for that number. Of course you don't have to use the base converter for this you could just use the ASCII table and use your browser's find function to look up the string of 0s and 1s for you. But I think getting familiar with the base converter could come in handy for more difficult puzzles. You could also however, use this http://nickciske.com/tools/binary.php and enter the hole string of 0s and 1s and decode to text in one step which is good if you only want to know what the text is and nothing more.
Anyway here is how the numbers above become letters:

--Binary ---------Decimal---- Octal----- Hex------- Value
01100001---------097----------141------061---------a
01110010---------114----------162------072---------r
01100011---------099----------143------063---------c
01101000---------104----------150------068---------h
01100101---------101----------145------065---------e
01110100---------116----------164 -----074---------t
01111001---------121----------171------079---------y
01110000---------112----------160------070---------p
01100001---------097----------141------061---------a
01101100---------108----------154------06C---------l

Rogi, I hope you don't care for me posting your base converter here. I was going to ask you on chat first but I got tired of waiting for you to get on, so I assumed you wouldn't care.
If you do, I'll remove it. Oh, do you think you could add a couple of features to it?

1. Add that fibonacci sequence thing and
2. It would also be nice if the values (0-9, A-Z and a-z) of the base 2 could be display to the right of that input box.

These would be cool.
