[OFF TOPIC] Semacode reader for PC?

Sorry to post this here but this seems to be the only forum on the whole of Unfiction where anyone's mentioned semacode. I'm wondering if anyone's aware of any windows-based software for reading semacodes. I know there's linux-based server software over at http://www.semacode.org (and, incidentally, they've included a scan of The Postcard in their blog too) but ideally I'd like something I can use on the win-based boxen at work. My C++ is way too weak after 5 years of atrophy to try to port their source :(

Just figured this might come in useful around here....

[PUZZLE] e=mc cubed

WARNING: DEAD END

On the pastures of Whipsmart, one of the cows is holding a chalk board with the statement "e=mc CUBED". Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of recent science will know that e most certainly does not equal mc cubed but mc squared, so this started some alarm bells in my head.

e=mc cubed... we've been dealing with a different kind of 'e' before in relation to Perplex City, so maybe it's that e and not 'energy'. And perhaps mc is actually MC (Mind Candy/Mission Control).

So, we rearrange the statement:

e=mc 3 to MC= 3 _/e (cube root of e)

And get the following number: 1.395612425

On a leap of faith, add a zero at the beginning and ignore the decimal place and we get a phone number:

01395 612425

However, it doesn't work. "This phone number has not been recognised." It was possible the final '5' had been rounded up, so I tried the same number with a 4 at the end instead. No luck there either.

It seems too good to be a coincidence, though. I post this here so maybe someone can run with it and find the true answer. I'm sure there's something in this.

(BTW, sorry if this is posted improperly - in the wrong place or such - but I wasn't totally sure where was best)

Any Aussies found Wave 4 stockists?

I have been trying to find Australian retailers that will stock Wave 4 cards (either in the mixed or pure packs) on 31st July with no success.

Since MC have stated in the Sentinel that the Australian players will have to wait until 3am the next day (east coast) to solve the cards, I would have though that the cards would be avialble somewhere in the country.

I have asked the Australian distributor Croftminster via their 'Talk to Croftminster' forum here , but as yet haven't heard anything.

Has anyone else managed to find anywhere that sells Wave 4 in Aus?? If not, people may want to consider adding their voice to the above forum.

Cheers,
Minor Weirdness

I don't mind If someone has looked into this already, but I was wondering what to make of these two sites.

http://www.violetunderground.com

Of course the original site is long gone. The odd bit is the link topics. Most players from season 1 will remember Violet's interest in Texas Hold'em Poker, on ocassion the links make a kind of sense. Though the rest is just filler which can happen when a domain name is let go.

The other is stranger still.

http://www.perplexcitysentinel.com

Since the prolonged demise of the ARG element to PerplexCity the old news site has been replaced with a site in Japanese regarding dentistry and herbal remedies. I've been using the Yahoo babel fish to see if something of interest had been hidden. But I haven't taken time to dig deeper.

Missing the fun. Any thoughts would be welcome.

PXC Project

OK, it is not an ARG, but for those of you who enjoyed the Perplex City ARG, and the puzzle cards in particular, here is a site that is 'dedicated to where Mind Candy left Perplex City'.

The site (currently in the form of a very sleek blog) accepts player designed puzzle cards (similar to those of PXC), and allows players to solve the puzzles and gain points. Rewards include badges, rankings and promotional cards.

It is early days, but there are some nice puzzles, and things seem to be gaining momentum. Why not take a look here
PXC Project

The puzzly goodness still roams.

Mind candy released their second wave of season 2 cards a while back. I myself have solved them all and was left wondering what was next. Well MC might have given up on PXC but some people havent, we have the all new PXC project. Founded by two relatively new members to PXC, they decided to make some online puzzles in a PXC style, even mimicking the borders of the cards. Answers are easily sent by email submission and points are added on the leaderboard.

I post here to try and attract more people, maybe even get some of the old crew back in action. There are also chances for you to submit your own puzzles and have them made (if you dont possess the graphical skills)

Please join the project, bring back the old days:
Confirmed solve: location of Receda Cube

Right.

I promised that today I'd start answering questions and talking about what happened. Well, genius here has just discovered that he left his wallet and cash cards at his parents' house yesterday so now I have to drive off to get them and it'll probably be evening before I can start posting. :oops:

But until then, here's a link to my Flickr set with pics from:

* Thursday's exploration of Fineshade.
* Friday morning's discovery of the Babel 'quadruped' and first digging session in Wakerley (though not the second as it was after dark had fallen)
* Sunday's unsuccessful trench
* The finding of the Cube at about 1.15pm on Sunday
* And some afterwards stuff, including taking it to Ampthill in the snow, where Masquerade ended

[OOG] Wii

If there's any other Unfictioners who have a Wii and are willing to share friend codes, my number is 6150 5908 8417 1559. There's not much to do with them yet (though I have a Satoshi Mii ready to travel to other consoles; other Perplexians to follow), I think it would be fun to play against fellow Cube Hunters once more online-capable games are released. And who knows - Mind Candy may do something with Nintendo WiFi someday!
