Wild Speculation on CF2 and a New ARG

I'm glad to see there's still a forum on Clover Field that's "semi" - "active".

So, considering the modern age...
What sort of ARG campaign do you expect or; better yet, would like?

I can invision tweets from (insert Japanese company I forgot the name of).
They build up in wealth of important details over time up intil movie launch.
They'ed have to be masked, layered, ominous msgs.
Not just, "Red alert! Monster woke up!"
But more so what the company is doing in the lead up to it's last days. All preparing to what they know is an atrocity they've done.
The monster (most accurately and affectionately named Greyballs) is coming to town because of some dumb fuck satellite.

Way I see it the movie should be told from the company's perspective. I personally wanna see some new events, not just a retelling of the night we've seen involving people we know are all pretty much gonna die or escape in a helicopter.

I'm gonna wait till someone kindly reminds me of the company name or does not ignore my first post with a "tl;dr" to elaborate.

"We're actually working on an idea right now..."

J.J. Abrams on the Future of Cloverfield
Source: Edward Douglas
February 28, 2009

At the Star Trek panel at WonderCon, director J.J. Abrams was asked about the progress on making sequel to their monster hit (ha ha) Cloverfield, which opened last year to set a couple of box office records.

"We're actually working on an idea right now," Abrams told the packed crowd. "The key obviously at doing any kind of sequel, certainly this film included, is that it better not be a business decision. If you're going to do something, it should be because you're really inspired to do it. It doesn't really have to mean anything, doesn't mean it will work, but it means we did it because we cared, not because we thought we could get the bucks. We have an idea that we thought was pretty cool that we're playing with, which means there will be something that's connected to 'Cloverfield,' but I hope it happens sooner than later because the idea is pretty sweet."
Where can I still get the Cloverfield toy at a good price?

Sad news, for a while now the Hasbro site no longer has the Cloverfield toy there! I have been attempting to locate a place where I, or any person for that matter, could still get the toy at a good price and not the $180 and above like ebay.

Does anyone here know of such a site?

Hmmm, what are our chances?

Maybe they could show the teaser in front of Transformers, and then follow up with more info at Comicon, like they did with C1 in 2007...
Writer Interview Proposes Skepticism for All Viral Info?

First, I'll apologize in advance if I'm repeating trouting old news. It looks like it would take a while to find earler mention of this.

Now, I'm quite a fan of Cloverfield and all the viral associated with it, but something I saw recently brought up questons I already had about the viral and crew interview-gained information, as well as questions I never considered.

I was wasting my life on TV Tropes the other day when I checked the page for the movie , and I saw something interesting posted under the trope listing for "Word of God." It was a link for an old podcast interview (around the WGA strike) with Cloverfield's writer Drew Goddard, along with a summary of what the man said in said interview and the conclusions that could be reached from it.

From the article:

Writer Drew Goddard argues against the idea of Word of God to begin with, as part of a larger argument about the film providing enough answers on its own; his reasoning is in part because A) a number of off-hand comments and personal interpretations by the filmmakers have been taken as canon (such as director Matt Reeves saying he thinks the monster is a baby only acting in self-defense, which had never been discussed with Goddard), and B) the viral marketing was created without his input, and possibly without the guidance of the director or J.J. Abrams. In his words, "everything that is important to the movie is on-screen," and everything not explained or shown within the film is not as important as the viewer's interpretation. Therefore, there are no official explanations about what company Rob is going to work for, where the monster came from, or what fell from the sky. With that said, he does note that the satellite theory doesn't seem to make sense, but then claims that his opinion on it doesn't make it untrue.

Link to the podcast itself: http://creativescreenwritingmagazine.blogspot.com/2008/03/cloverfield-q.html

I can kind of see what he's getting at. I've noted about various complaints regarding J.J. Abram's word about the monster being dead is that the whole counter-arguement with the backward message after the credits is that the "message" came from Matt Reeves, who likely had no idea about what Abrams thought about the issue when he added it. Thus, people shouldn't be relying on the "message" to be saying the monster is still alive.

But the fact the interview implies that the entire viral campaign, and not just what the filmmakers say, is not the official explanation, is interesting to think about. Comments about this?

Cloverfield is based on a true Story!

After reading some comments on youtube of people claiming that cloverfield is based on a true story I started thinking. And now I do think that it is!
Let me explain why...

First of all JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg must be good friends.
At least they are both jewish. In the movie a monster is destroying Manhatten
(During cold war Cloverfield was the codename for Manhatten)

now some additional information you might find useful:
Wikipedia about Godzilla:

With the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki still fresh in the Japanese consciousness, Godzilla was conceived as a monster created by nuclear detonations and a metaphor for nuclear weapons in general.

I think the movie implies that The USA are haunted by the monster they awakened with the bombings

In the movie an oil rig gets destroyed by that monster (Just like in the gulf of mexico)
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3z50f_cloverfield-monster-attack-2_shortfilms#from=embed

At 1:54 a sattelite is falling into the water but why does it remember me of an airplane droping a bomb into the water?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKdPUNwQWjQ

As a little Easteregg you see King Kong for less than a second
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h65vnAB7NiM
According to german Wikipedia Godzilla is a mix of King Kong and a whale

I never watched the film but I definetly will! God bless Youtube for movies like these :)

A new lead perhaps?

First things first, this is Avpruler. I was a usual poster on the cloverfield board, but Unforum is being stupid and not letting me reset my password, so i just made a new account.

2, So I came upon this while strollin' thru the News and Rumors section, found this thread:

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29526

Now, the website in question http://aguateroindustries.com/
has a very Tagruato look to it, not to mention if there was ONE more letter T in Aguatero, it would be an Anagram for Tagruato.

It could be unrelated, but who knows, it apparently just showed up, and has been sending messages in bottles to peoples homes.

OT But did anyone notice TJ Miller?

I tried searching the forums for this but I just saw "Get Him to the Greek" and the scene where Aldous Snow needs the Heroin he sends his assistant to get some. He goes to the frontdesk at the hotel and right away I was like why does this guy look (and especially sound) so familiar? It was TJ Miller! The scene is hilarious as TJ gets dropped off all bloody in front of the emergency room. It's so funny to see our once no name Cloverfield stars getting some big roles. Did anyone else notice this?

To spark some life...

A little glimpse of news and a statement from Matt Reeves about a Cloverfield Sequel:

From Comingsoon.net, MTV:
MTV talked to Cloverfield director Matt Reeves, whose Let Me In opens October 1st, about the possibility of a sequel to the 2008 monster film.

He said that, while himself and producer J.J. Abrams are concentrating on other things right now, there's definitely still interest in returning to that universe.

"It really isn't the moment for [the sequel] to go any further than it has, but it continues to be a priority for both of us," Reeves said. "J.J. is very immersed in putting together 'Super 8.' He's... in pre-production and really, really passionately getting that together. And I'm passionately finishing 'Let Me In.'"

He also assured there's no connection between Cloverfield and Super 8.

"There literally is no connection whatsoever," he added. "It's just a really cool idea for a film. I know what [J.J. is] doing and it's amazing."

Link to story is here.
