i think that we have to build like some sort of website or something for us. i totally know how to do css but i've got no idea what nobody wants on the site. ooh you know what would be cool if we like had some sort of logo with a seal on it! do you know how to make something like that and if you do can i claim i made it so that Jan will be impressed?

I responded that a website was just what we needed and that I would try to help with a logo.

Seriously, though. I'd really like to see a day when we can walk into interviews and not have to worry about who we are and what humans would think of us if they knew. If what is done in SEAL can change any of that, I want to be involved.

Actually, I take it back. It doesn't matter what your friend looks like because they're probably too young for me anyway, and that would just be creepy if I lusted after some 14 year old. Agggh, gross (no offense). :roll: Yeah.

I received these letters from St. Laudine's Academy which I believe is Diego's school. The envelope did not have a return address. The stamp is interesting it has the school seal with the words smilan keilvn nednai under them. I can't read the postmark.

First challenge is out. Because it does not interfere with the other fellowships I post it here:

Challenge 1: Code Blue

Exceptional students attending an exceptional school and now you face your first exceptional challenge.

Traditional students have discovered over the years the bond that is developed by working together with their fellowship brothers and sisters. These are the bonds that hold the Awlyn together as we live alongside humans, hiding our true identities. This will be the first time many of you have participated in the fellowship program as we have not been able to offer this to distance learning students in the past.

Since we have yet to establish a student council to plan and organize challenges I have shuffled through some of our older challenges and picked some for the next few weeks. This week: Code Blue.

Code Blue Rules:

1. Students must be seen wearing blue in some form or fashion
2. Students may post their pictures anywhere on the internet and link to it in response to this thread
3. Students will be rewarded for originality, humor, and difficulty. (to be determined by faculty)
4. Students must post their links by 5pm Central Daylight Time Sunday the 28th of September 2008.
5. Students may post multiple times with their last link being the only one to count.
6. Students may provide links to video and/or images
7. Students must not make their identity as an awlyn apparent. Those of you who can physically change into another form may do so, but you may not perform this transformation on any publicly available sites. Those of you who are werewolves and your monthly cycle has begun you may upload to the school forum.
8. Students MAY include the name of the school or fellowship in their image or video.

Code Blue Points:
-Fellowship will be awarded 1 point for each picture of member seen wearing blue
-Fellowship will be awarded 2 points for each video of member seen wearing blue
-Fellowship will be awarded 1 point for name of fellowship in video or image
-Fellowship will be awarded 2 points for name of the school in video or image
-Fellowship will gain 2 additional points for each member rewarded for originality or humor
-Fellowship will gain 3 additional points for each member rewarded for difficulty
-Fellowship will gain 10 additional points for most original, humorous, or difficult of all fellowships

Note: The name of the school and/or fellowship is to allow alumni the opportunity to enjoy the work of our students. The school's website has been designed to prevent human intruders from mistakenly finding their way into the school or finding information about the Awlyn from the portions of the site they can access.

Fellowship Points:

At the end of each week the fellowship with the most challenge points will be awarded 2 fellowship points. 1 fellowship point will be awarded to the second place fellowship and none to the final fellowship. Challenge points will reset to 0 when the next challenge begins.

The challenge has now officially begun, please contact the designated faculty member for clarification of any rules if needed.

Andromeda has won the Fellowship championship each of the last 10 years, 15 of the last 20 years. We will continue this domination of the other fellowships here!

This Game is really huge. There are so many things to read, to discover, many different groups to join and so many IG characters to interact.
Even though the number of registered persons on SLA is not that low, it seems that the number of people actively participating is low.

There have beenn only four people applied for Student Council, up to now there are "only" 4 images and 1 video uploaded for the Fellowship Challenge and discussion on the courses (besides Biology) is very limited.
Seems that only a few are trying to keep things running. Even on uF only a few are posting on the threads and ... the wiki is run by one person (me :-( )

I am not sure if the concept of this game will work with so less active players. It seems like it is designed as some kind of massive player ARG. I feel a little bit sorry for the PMs. They are making a real good job and the feedback is low.

Perhaps, ARGs are still not "mainstream" enough for such a kind of concept.

I contacted DeGrance asking about soem details of the student council. Got this reply:

We have 4 positions available for the student council:

President
Vice President
Treasurer
Activities Planner

The student council will be responsible for organizing online activities for other students including the challenges for the fellowships.

The fellowships will have ongoing challenges that build a strong bond for the students involved in each fellowship. The student council's responsibility will be to find ways to challenge the fellowships.

Please post your interest for the student council in the student council interest thread. We will soon be having student council elections. You will be responsible for creating a campaign to market yourself to fellow students and earn their votes for the position you are interested in.

Do not know exactly what this whole SLA organisations are about. Seems a little bit like a "game within a game".
So if the student council has to develop challenges for the fellowships this seems like player making game-content for players.

The Treasurer will have the responsibility of tracking any money collected for challenges and for tracking points for each challenge to be awarded to the fellowships.

The President will have final say over any challenges or proposals put forth by the student council. He or she will be responsible for the actions of the student council and for being the voice of fellow students.

The Vice President will assist the President in any decisions made. Should anything happen to the President that prevents them from being involved in the student council, the Vice President will immediately take the reigns of the student council. In this situation students will then vote for a replacement for the Vice President which could include the Activities planner and/or Treasurer.

The Activities planner gathers ideas from fellow students for activities and challenges. He or she will then discuss the acitivities with the rest of the student council and begin planning to put these activities into motion.

OK, I've been doing some digging around. I don't trust Novak.

First, he shows up as Mikey's technically-inclined pal. Next, we learn that he owns eyegasm-design, who made Mikey's site, and hosts the treehouse and K+K's site. Then SLA shows up, having been created by e-d.
Now, it turns out that Novak is the admin of the SLA message board, which means that he has full access to all the content (including the fact that it's a school for Awlyn).

Seeing as how three of the faculty I asked about SEAL have yet to reply (busy with class, I assume), I was wondering about the guy you called Novak. He's the admin around here? Is he a member of the faculty, or an independent contractor?
Basically, should I ask his opinion, or shouldn't I waste his time?

He's an independent contractor that used to go to school here. I wouldn't bug him much about what's going on, I'm not sure he'd care too much about it.

a) some random Awlyn who just happens to know Mikey?

[SLA][Classes]Astronomy - Prof Singh

New on the Astronomy forum

This class is named "Astronomy" but should have been called Observational Astronomy. We will be spending less time on calculations in this class and more time outside. The goal of this course is to give you the tools to observe the celestial sphere, become familiar with celestial phenomena, record your observations, and draw conclusions based on what you observe. Next year, we hope to add a more in-depth online astronomy course that will include the use of both calculus and physics. I caution you not to make the assumption that this course is an "easy grade", as you students like to say; a practical and successful observer must be both meticulous and consistent, and you will be graded accordingly.

Your Week 1 materials and assignments will be posted in just a moment, and I will post a syllabus in short order as well.

For those of you who live in urban areas and are unable to take regular trips away from the city's light, please make an effort to complete the assignments to the best of your abilities, and discuss any difficulties with me.

For those of you who don't know Google Earth can be switched into Sky mode, which is totally awesome and might help along the way. Just go to View>Switch to Sky.
