Several of us just finished playing Funnel Production's Transition Village 2 and at the end of the ARG we were given a URL to www.puritytowers.com . As of right now there is a timer (20 days until it goes live) and an e-mail address for joining the mailing list. Figured I would get the thread going and ready so that when it goes live we can hit the ground running.

I received the following automated response upon signing up for the mailing list:

Welcome to the Purity Towers mailing list. Answering the high volume

The story so far:
There are two sides, the Grotians, an underground movement, and the Proscript Party, which is a political party with a strong affinity to security, order and prosperity. Their newest project is the Purity Towers, which is the new "Zone" to live for the party members. Players have been contacted by Melvin Smith, the coordinator of PP, as well as Selvin Myth who works for the Grotians cause.

Melvin and Selvin turn out to be the same person who asks us to help the Grotian movement in different ways and channel our strengths in teams (communication, sabotage, recon). On our ning site you can join those. The communication team had to provide us with a secret code which we'll have to use with PP members who secretly want to work for the Grotians. The code (a mix of Al Bhed and ROT) will be announced every week on uF.

To start as new player, you'd have to send e-mails to both Melvin and Selvin so 'both' get your e-mail address (Melvin stays in his role as a party communicator and has asked us to address him as such), and then join
one of our teams on ning. There are players who've been turning to the PP side, so beware as players can play for either side and you never know who you can trust!

It was revealed via a YouTube Message that Randy and Earl of Sticky Itchers fame have made a business deal with Purity Towers to provide their famous shower scrub to the towers.

UPDATE (08/13/09):
Melvin sent out an update detailing the party's effort to capture L. Waltershield, the Grotian Underground leader, and reassured players they could contact him with info on said leader with anonymity. It was also indicated that a few units in Purity Towers would be made available to players in the near future on the Proscript Party webpage as well as a new message from the party. In a second e-mail Melvin slipped up and asked to RECALL the e-mail, "Deputies:" immediately...

UPDATE (08/14/09):
With Melvin on the run the party president, Garfield Jameson, took it upon himself to contact party members and update them. The Purity Towers website is now functional and Garfield announced that the owner of the tower is Phil Thomas.

We each have differnt binary codes and we need to come together to discuss each of our different codes and what they mea. Hi all,

As many of you are aware, Melvin sent an email to the Deputies yesterday which he later recalled. We had originally thought that this was a slip up by the PMs, but as it transpires today, this is well and truly in-game. The email is as follows (spoilered to dissuade sneaky non-GU affliates reading it):

To my trusted deputies,

I regret that I have been terribly busy most of the day. Never a moment's rest. So far, my emails (both accounts) have been open nearly constantly, and I have been trying very hard to justify leaving the Purity Towers page "hacked" for so long. I fear we will have to revert to the original page design soon, thereby losing an opportunity to recruit more members. Does anyone have any ideas about what to do? Everyone's help is requested.

Party supporters should be watched very closely. Under no circumstances should we assume there is only one. Robbie is just a fraction of the supporters, I can assure you. It is essential to be vigilant. True Proscript supporters can be very sneaky. Yes, I'm saying this from experience.

To touch on the potential bloggers, you are all doing an excellent job recruiting them. One more person remains for you to contact. We should hold out for as long as possible before reaching him. Extra contacts are useful, and this person may prove to be invaluable as time goes on. Refrain from reaching him until it is absolutely necessary, however. Sometimes he is a bit uncomfortable with this mission.

Getting you his contact information directly is very nerve-wracking for me, and I am shaking even as I write this. Maybe, hopefully, you will understand my meaning. Always use your best judgment. I have come to trust all of you, and I cannot say how that has lifted my spirits in these dark days. Long live Levi and the Grotian Underground.

It's not known whether the new contact is Selvin or a wholly new contact, but the deputies' consensus is that we should use the email sparingly, and work on what we have already (ie. trying to crack Archie and Melissa).

Call to Define Community Standards

The depth of roleplaying in this game is, as far as I know, unprecedented in ARGs.

This means many things: that we have no pre-existing community standards for dealing with the situation; that it falls on us to create those standards; that other games of this nature, if they are made, will likely follow our standards; that how we conduct ourselves today may very well determine not only how but whether future games of this kind will be created and played.

I want to form these customs deliberately, rather than let them grow knobbly and accidental. I think it behooves us to take the time and care to do this properly, to make it work, so that games like this will continue to be made.

The following is my personal proposal on what our standard should be.

Ideally, uF should be a wholly OOG forum. That means no roleplaying. To the extent that we are, or sympathize with, Grotians or Proscripts or dragons or whatever, we are effectively In Game, and should not post on uF.

We can of course come here and read here and post here, but we will do so strictly Out Of Character. We will solve puzzles, speculate on the plot, discuss ARG design, and make idle chatter. We will not talk about how good or bad the members of [political group] are.

The OOGness of uF would, then, serve two major purposes, provide two major kinds of safe haven.

The first is the one it has always served: to be a place where we can, as players, solve puzzles and exchange clues without IG characters overhearing.

The second is the new one that has never been needed in an ARG before this one: to be a place where we can remember and reassert that we are not characters, but real people; that despite claims to the contrary, it's just a game; that whatever our IG political disagreements, we're still all friends.

It may turn out to be impossible, for whatever reasons, for uF to serve that second purpose. If that is the case, then another forum should be created to be that second haven. We would then have one forum OOC and one forum OOG.

I believe that the existence of a haven substantially alters the character of actions taken outside the safe haven. Seeing reality helps us not to believe in the masque.

Lately I have noticed that people are beginning to take this too seriously. Fighting with one another, arguing over things that don't matter. You seem to forget this is a game, not reality. Step back and realize that the name calling and the overzealousness of everyone is actually hurting the game, not improving it. I don't care what side you are on, because in the end, it doesn't really matter, its all a game and at the end of the day we should all be able to talk positively about the experience.

This is my first and most likely last ARG because ofthe attitude and nature of some of the players. I got into this ARG to have fun and meet new people. But I can tell you this, I am not enjoying the game anymore, and I am starting to wonder about some of the people I have been meeting. Are you so quick to turn on those who you once saw as a friend just because they chose to play differently from you? It does not matter if you are GU or Party or even neutral, you need to stop and think about the things you say to other people around you. One might take some of the jokes and playful banter to heart and be seriously hurt by it. So can we all stop with the fighting and crap and just play the game to its completion instead of tearing out each other's throats? If you all ignore everything I have said fine, what do I know?All I know is I want the crazy bullcrap to stop and I want us to just be considerate of one another. Stop with the insults and the crap, and just let people play the way that they want to.

Hi Comm Group!

PinkCloud and I were chatting last night about the need for a news blog for the Grotians. My thought is that it would be a public vehicle in which everyone could post about his own life experience to show that change is needed and that all citizens must have equal rights. My hope is that a show of numbers would serve to encourage others to join the movement.

Do you have any thoughts about this or suggestions for it? Would anyone like to volunteer to get it started and work on it?

I'm on your side here. That guy needs a wife, and you seem pretty eager to be her. Eager enough to marry him in front of Elvis, at least. That's gotta mean somethin'.

Here's what I think you should do: Write him one of them real sweet love letters. He always gets into that sissy crap, no matter how manly he acts in our videos. Then read it on YouTube. He's always on there (that's the genius of it).
