I want to be one of the people there for an ARG, because I enjoy seeing how creative and intelligent some people are, under the bullshit of shitposting memes and trolling people online. I want to be apart of something that will show how one can tap into the intelligence of others.

Afternoon. I am very much into puzzles, particularly those found in Alternate Reality Games (ARG's) but I found that I can be absolutely horrible at them.

It isn't just a lack of knowledge regarding ciphers, codes and number sequences. It's how I approach puzzles. Anyone out there know how I can improve my general problem solving, puzzling, deduction and methodology?

Books, videos, sample ARG's, any resource would be much appreciated.

In one of the ARGs that is running right now, the PM posted the following message on his blog:

Just a warning, the next few days this will get quite intense....
Without spoiling it, the fallen god will get quite nasty to all of you.
It will attempt to get all personal information and use it to attack all of you.
Just letting you know, so you can prepare.
This warning will also be the ONLY OOG post made in this game.
Also, swearing and stuff and other adult themes.

Personally I think that this goes beyond the fun of the game.. scowering the web for personal information and then using it to "attack" people with is IMHO not done.. this might actually permanently damage people..

Please let me know what your opinion on this is..

Need help with cipher, please!

'm currently having trouble decoding a message. I have never seen a code like this before, leading me to believe there's something very obvious about it I'm overlooking or that it's perhaps two codes intertwined? I've been puzzling at it since yesterday with no real progress. Can you please help me to at least figure out the basic cipher I am working with?

The puzzle:

The plain text is supposed to help in solving it. I'm not very good at things like this however. I've tried using the coordinates to find the location in google maps, checked around with that, used street view, researched the web for anything relating, all looking for a clue as to the cipher and the key. I'm flailing, missing something. Any tips or help are appreciated.

Hello, I am new to ARG's with no experience and would like to know how to best join a going ARG. So far it all sounds interesting but whenever I look into the Trailheads I get the feeling that I can do nothing but watch as everyone else is solving the puzzle because I don't have any special software and am stuck in Germany without a car.

Maybe there is some sort of starting ARG, something simple just to get a feel for it.

A group of authors is working on a science project on Layers of psychological perception in the Internet.

Some time ago (likely years) we have chanced upon a game on this very forum that perfectly fits what we are looking for.

It was a client installed right over your browser that would let you use the internet as a giant gameboard . Collecting goodies left by game devs on certain websites, setting traps for other players and displaying lots of comments and extra info that only other owners of the same client could see.

Does anyone still remember the name of this game and maybe could share a link as well?
This is something quite critical for our project so we cordially thank you in advance.

Hello, anyone know how ARGs get a user's location? I won a challenge in an ARG and am supposed to receive a "surprise" but I don't know how he is going to know where to send it (assuming it is physical) considering I never mentioned my actual location when applying. thanks

Hello, I'm new to this forum (although i've been lurking for some time, mostly for Marble Hornets since it's the only "ARG" I actively follow).
But there was an ARG which really caught up my attention, I can't really recall its name, all I remember was that it was about a man who got his wife kidnapped and made a video on Youtube where he asked for help to find her..I also remember this site where you had to answer some questions, one regarding my "vision of authority"..thanks to everyone willing to help me.
I already tried to use the Search tool but it doesn't seem to give me specific results.

hi, I am new to ARGs and have a few questions. here we go:
1. in ARGs with phone calls, does a player's role end just because they could not call the number for whatever reason or is there normally some way to get around it/a way to keep informed on what the calls are? I know The Umbrella Sword has one such option but I am referring to other ARGs.
2. do most ARGs have a site or other way to keep in contact with people that say go to a certain location in the real world and find the item related to the ARG (for instance the spy one being mentioned in the news and updates forum)?
3. (looking for an ARG), I am looking for an ARG that is just starting out, has a decent amount of puzzles that are tricky but not EXTREMELY tricky?

This might not be useful to those of you that have been around for a while, but for those of you that just stumbled into all of this and have no clue what's going on...

The Quick Start Guide might be just what you need. I've attempted to answer some of the basic questions such as "What is an ARG?" and "How do I play?" while throwing in monkeys and dancing robots. There are also a few links to more information. It's not a complete reference and is meant to be 'quick', but if you can think of ways that it can be improved... let me know! It's been a few years since I've been in your shoes and it's a bit difficult to go back there.
