[NEW] Orlando CD Recovered

Taking some time out from the very busy ARGfest schedule, with all the conferences and sessions (that's TOOC conferences and drinking sessions for those in the know), I drove over to Lake Eola Park in beautiful downtown Orlando, in search of the elusive Emerson disk.

Under a grey, rain-soaked sky, I circled the park in search of the elusive pagoda. It was easily identified, and a parking space appeared just as I rounded the corner. As I parked, the rain stopped. Surely luck was with me as I alighted from the car, and approached the pagoda.

Always suspicious, I acted like any tourist, taking a few quick snapshots, before moving in to investigate. An elderly Asian gentleman was practicing what appeared to be Tai Chi just inside the pagoda. Walking around the structure, I quickly spotted the electrical box, noticing immediately a manila mailer with the word "Emerson" written on it taped to the back side of the box.

Stepping quickly into the pagoda, I reached over the side, and tore loose the envelope. The Asian gentleman seemed surprised at my actions. "Treasure Hunt", I said, as I held the envelope for his inspection. This seemed to satisfy him, and he continued with his exercises. I left the pagoda, walking briskly back towards my car, glancing about to ensure that no one else had taken notice of my furtive activity.

A few minutes later I was on the I-4 heading towards my hotel. I opened the envelope, removed the CD, and loaded it into my laptop. Scanning the directory, I was dismayed to find that it contained the identical contents of the previously discovered CD's. While I have yet to perform a complete comparison, I think that this is merely another duplicate.

Well, it was an enjoyable outing anyway, and I've attached a few photos for your enjoyment.

First MU Player meeting IRL?

Just came from hangin' out with joebrent, went to his mandolin recital. Never thought I'd say 'shred' and 'mandolin' in the same sentence, but...he shredded on that mandolin. The man can flat-out play. Rock on, Joe. Went to the Pig N' Whistle afterwards for a couple pints. Very cool.

Looking forward to a larger meeting in NYC next year.

p.s. wasn't sure where this thread belongs, but it certainly qualifies as "Interaction" :)

EDITED BY EHSAN - Infromation from other threads:

by chancesend:

Call came in at 6:34pm MST from "Unknown" (Meaning that call ID was blocked).

A recorded message started up with what seemed to be music and some ambience. Very hard to hear. Then a voice comes in, but it is VERY distorted/effected. Seems like someone put their voice through a ring modulator (for those of you who do any kind of effects processing). There was not one, but quite a few distinct voices. Perhaps a conversation? I didn't catch much of anything except for one phrase:

"What do you think you're doing?"

This seemed to have been answered by someone else, but I couldn't understand. As I said, these voices were garbled / distorted as to make it difficult to hear.

Total call time: 45 seconds.
_______________
By Tobester:

So far I could hear:
'....directory came from...'
'..I'll check main security handles...' (...bay security airlocks...)(handbooks?) (logs?)
'...zeus wadda think you're doing...?
'...sewer vessel on...' ( I know...but that's what i hear )
'...everyting is A-OK and under control...'

and the distorted voice, could that be greek?
reeks of aquapolis..
[EMAIL] Closing the Box, from Beth

Just got this, subject "Closing the Box":

As many of you know, several weeks ago journey of discovery. What started as a
simple curiosity about several loosely related events turned into a complex
obsession; one that took me from friends and family and distracted me from work.
The things I have learned, the people and phenomena I have come into contact
with, have forced me to fundamentally question and re-examine everything I
thought was true about the world. Not only the tapestry of my assumptions about
my interpersonal relationships with my friends, but also the fabric of my
reality as I understood it, all seemed to come unraveled at the same time.
Confronted at every turn with events which seemed to cruelly mock and subvert my
own sense of logic and self, I could easily have fallen to pieces. The fact that
I have not was in no small part due to the support and timely intervention of
several unexpected friends new and old:
...a fellow-traveler investigator and journalist of the extreme, whose love and
support, I now realize, means more to me now than ever before;
...a strangely inquisitive man whose oddly stilted speech patterns masked a
powerful curiosity that rivaled my own;
...a co-worker whose slightly sarcastic energy was infectious to me and a source
of some cheer, even if I never was quite sure of her motivations;
...a spunky and adventurous little ball of fur who seems to have developed quite
a taste for camping in the outdoors;
...a beautiful young boy who smiled at me through his tears even though I saw
his heart break;
...and dozens and dozens of disembodied voices coming to me through the ether,
names unfamiliar to me who nonetheless somehow came upon the journal of my
investigations, and who reached across the miles in thousands of little boxes on
my computer screen to offer their support.
For these friends, and the gifts they brought me, I will be forever grateful. As
I look at this box overflowing with wonderful and confusing memories and some
questions that will never be answered, I realize that the time has come to add
it to the others in the closet. So, until I open the next box, good-bye. I thank
you all for your support and encouragement. It truly was a pleasure getting to
know you. If you?re ever in Redland, be sure to look me up.
Beth

Dr. Schuffhausen

When you call the phone number found on the Phoenix business card (702-407-0925, discussed here ) a very wongmolicious-sounding "Dr. Schuffhausen" answers.

Several people have tried to get information, but mostly he refers to his website (without giving a URL) and then hangs up to take another call.

EDIT: and the website was found! http://schuffhausen.org/ So much for this thread! :)

her latest email to pgairden said that her IM name would be firstname middle initial lastname

went to metacortex site. looked up her directory info
email address was bethlmcconnel
went on AIM, added her and below is the transcript so far. i will keep it updated. others on #matrix are talking to her as well right now.

Session Start (AIM - Statik93:bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 17:32:15 2003
Statik93: hello?
Statik93: miss mcconnel?
bethlmcconnell: hi.
Statik93: webmaster of little-boxes.net?
bethlmcconnell: yes. do i know you?
Statik93: i visit the site regularly
Statik93: are you going to be going to paris to continue to follow the anomoly?
bethlmcconnell: I'm not sure where I am right now.
bethlmcconnell: it's crazy!
Statik93: whats happening?
bethlmcconnell: it's not paris
bethlmcconnell: it's dark. it must be late.
Statik93: so this strange man is somehow an AI? how is his demeanor?
bethlmcconnell: he's very nice. somewhat formal.
bethlmcconnell: but very nice.
Statik93: i seem confused though. if he is an AI how does he exist, physically? other than being like a robot or something strange like that.
Statik93: as for your moral delemma. no you would not be doing the right thing by taking him to metacortex. although i suspect you have also came to that conclusion.
bethlmcconnell: he looks and acts just like a man. it really makes very little sense. i've never seen technology this advanced.
Statik93: hey. you mentioned that there were some kids tracking the anomolies as well
Statik93: have you heard from any of them? did you talk to them?
bethlmcconnell: kids?
bethlmcconnell: p:1.0:skin:"8o":"8o"h!
bethlmcconnell: i saw some kids at halloween!
bethlmcconnell: i had forgotten about them
Statik93: i think i know one of them. or know of them
Statik93: miss kinross
bethlmcconnell: I've heard that name. She was the one he wrote about.
Statik93: really
Statik93: well i have reason to believe that miss kinross is a hacker going by the alias texel. she has posted some interesting things pertaining to the anomolies recently on paintover.net
bethlmcconnell: really?
Statik93: yes
Statik93: how is he doing? this need for him to find his purpose, is he in pain (if there is such a thing)?
Statik93: what makes him need to find his purpose? is it connected with escaping those who are trying to hunt him?
Session Close (bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 18:02:55 2003
Statik93: well if you are busy, i'll leave you to it. im sure all of this really has your hands full. IM me with developments, i don't have a life so i am always online.

Session Start (AIM - Statik93:bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 19:28:29 2003
Statik93: so what are you and the man doing right now?
Session Close (bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 19:28:43 2003

Session Start (AIM - Statik93:bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 19:36:37 2003
bethlmcconnell: discussing the virtue of human friendship and virtual friends.
bethlmcconnell: we've just returned to the campsite
bethlmcconnell: Laika is thrilled that we're back.
Statik93: thats good to here!
Statik93: err. hear
Statik93: so are you any closer to understanding his purpose?
Statik93: so you have an AI. it can translocate, it can make some changes in areas. perhaps his purpose is to go around and fix things?
Statik93: but since it has been malfuntioning as of late. it was going around and 'breaking things' in the metaphysical sense of the term...
bethlmcconnell: perhaps
bethlmcconnell: so how do we test this theory?
Statik93: hmm.
Statik93: well there was miss kinross
Statik93: didn't he fix the problem she was having?
Statik93: but that doesn't get us anyher
Statik93: bloody hell. im a scientist myself (well almost, about to finish college), so i should be able to design something. but for the life of me, i can't think of a good experiment.
bethlmcconnell: that's where I am with this. Everything seems so impossible
bethlmcconnell: yet it's all happened
Statik93: hey
Statik93: i just thought
Statik93: maybe he could locate a missing person
Statik93: there are those missing people on heismissing.info and sheismissing.info
Statik93: perhaps in your testing, you could turn a good deed as well
Session Close (bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 20:00:38 2003

Session Start (AIM - Statik93:bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 20:01:46 2003
Statik93: okay. here is a test
Statik93: there is that wierd place. the cascade vortex
Statik93: somewhere in redland
Statik93: you could test the theory there.
Statik93: see if he can go there and fix things up
Session Close (bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 20:02:40 2003

Session Start (AIM - Statik93:bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 20:05:45 2003
bethlmcconnell: the Cascade Vortex is just right up the road. I'm afraid that most of it is a hoax, but that does seem like a good idea.
Statik93: what about the missing person's thing? do you think that is within his abilities?
Statik93: maybe he is some weird sort of guardian angel. heh.
Session Close (bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 20:07:15 2003
Session Start (AIM - Statik93:bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 20:12:58 2003
bethlmcconnell: well that's something we could all use.
bethlmcconnell: I'm going to go grab a bite to eat. I'll be back in a bit.
Statik93: take care
bethlmcconnell: thanks for your thoughts.
Session Close (bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 20:37:01 2003

Session Start (AIM - Statik93:bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 20:45:56 2003
Statik93: you should see if he can pull a Yuri Geller, and bend some spoons!
Session Close (bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 20:46:29 2003

Session Start (AIM - Statik93:bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 21:34:39 2003
Statik93: hey. are you still looking for a potential experiment to test the theory that his purpose is to 'fix' paranormal activity?
Statik93: here is an experiment.
Statik93: litterally have this AI guy sit on his ass for awhile, and continue your documenting of paranormal activity
Statik93: f a net increase is seen, that would support the hypothesis
Session Close (bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 21:37:44 2003

Session Start (AIM - Statik93:bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 22:20:53 2003
Statik93: do you think this AI can help find the guy on heismissing.info?
Session Close (bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 22:22:16 2003

Session Start (AIM - Statik93:bethlmcconnell): Sat Nov 15 22:32:29 2003
bethlmcconnell: You know, several others have mentioned that
bethlmcconnell: It would make me feel a million times better if he could.
Statik93: well, correct me if i am wrong, but that seems to be what made you so upset in the 'my life' section of your website
bethlmcconnell: yes, that it did
establishing a chat room

Some of us thought that Beth might prefer meeting with her fans in a chat room, rather than opening up 40 individual PM windows.

To that end, we created an AOL chat room, accessible via AIM, as well as holding a room open in IRC. We have not yet (as of this moment) asked Beth where *she* might prefer to meet, or whether she wants to do a group chat at all.

aim:gochat?roomname=FansOfLittleBoxes
If you have AIM installed and paste the above line into the address bar of your IE browser, it will connect you with the chat room. Otherwise, use AIM to find the chat room named "Fans of Little Boxes", or send a PM to catwood76 and I can invite you.

On IRC.chat-solutions.org the room is #fansoflittleboxes

The rule of thumb is to STAY IN CHARACTER, meaning think of yourself as being an innocent subscriber to the little-boxes web site and simply in conversation with Beth as someone who sent you an email about her "Strange Friend". Ask her questions but do not SPEC out loud in the room or refer to the Matrix or the ARG in any way.
