ilovebees.com offline? No worry! Mirror is up

So apparently recently ilovebees.com has become unresponsive. For reasons unknown (or at least made public) the site us not loading, as of this post.
This is a sad thing :(

But! There is a flash mirror of the site up already - at ilovebees.co
That's .com without the m.
Its only a static flash of the site, but it seems all content is in place.

If you find anything missing, comment here!

[SPEC/NEWS] Major Nelson drops a very suspicious comment

via Twitter:
I am fascinated by Bees. Their organization, resourcefulness, adaptability, navigation skills & contribution to nature is captivating

Wasps on the other hand? No thanks.

This, following a couple of other recent bits of news and interesting points...
* Elan Lee was last year brought on as Chief Design Officer at Xbox Entertainment Studios
* Sean Stewart was just brought on as Creative Director at Xbox Studios
* Joe Staten (Bungie) just returned to Microsoft Studios as Senior Creative Director (though not to 343 Industries directly)
...

Could we be seeing the start of something that may return to the little storyworld we tasted in 2004?

via twitter:
Something good, this way comes.

There are theories that MS/343 may have some news in store for Jan 17... you know, 1/17. :P

I guess we'll see in time. High hopes, but low expectations. =)

[OG] Happy 9th Birthday The Haunted Apiary!

9 years ago, today, The ARG known as The Haunted Apiary or ilovebees came to an end. I had fond memories of this ARG. I remember the chill that ran through my spine as the pay phone began to ring when I went to answer my first axon. I remember coming up with my name and rank (Admiral Torque). I remember being the 5th person called on a massive unlock day and being the first person to answer the question correctly (What animal do I hate? Bees).

Because of this ARG, I went on to play in a few other ones that I also have fond memories of (Last Call Poker, Repo Men, and the chaotic fiction known as Marble Hornets). Thank you Bungie and 42 Entertainment for getting me hooked on all things ARG! Thank you Unfiction and the Unforums for providing a place for a community to build and grow to make the game play more fun and to meet new people along the way!

What fond memories do you have of The Haunted Apiary?

[SPEC]Glassing of Reach

OK, so we all know that from the wav files, Reach has just been glassed by the Covenant and that is what we are basing all of our timeline speculation upon. However - and correct me if I'm wrong as I'm at work without my Halo novels - I seem to recall that after Reach was glassed there was a large-scale ONI cover-up of the event and most people didn't find out that it had happened for some time after the fact.

I guess it doesn't really change things much, but it's something to keep in mind - Reach might have been glassed a while back, and the news has only just been leaked to the residents of Earth.

Can someone who has the novels handy check this for me? Otherwise I'll check it myself this evening when I get home from work.

Jersey and Badtz Maru

Recently, I was in Los Angeles for the final Last Call Poker live event, and at the after-party at Sharky's, a bunch of peeps showed up. I got to meet Tara Platt (who has the cutest hair, ever, every single day, it seems), Yuri Lowenthal, Kristen Rutherford, and Zan Passante. Zan, for those of you who don't remember, played Jersery in ilovebees.

I (and several other unforum members, actually) participate fairly regularly in a livejournal community called The Traveling Picture show - akin to the traveling gnome in the movie Amelie , we all post photos of our little toys out and about in the world. I've taken Badtz to several states in the U.S., as well as Scotland.

Here, we see Zan trying to be Badtz's best buddy. :) Thought you guys might appreciate the photo.

:jetpack:

Also, everyone should visit Ping Pong Champion -- I hear that he's coming out with a movie!

[INFO] [PUZZLE] ilovebees.com is NOT IN TEXAS

I've seen a lot of people trying to work through the meaning of coordinate puzzle who are erroneously using the "fact" that the ilovebees.com server is in Texas and there are no coordinates in Texas.

This is A RED HERRING . It's true that the ilovebees.com IP address is registered to Rackspace administrative office in Texas, as you can see here:

%whois 69.20.126.147 @whois.arin.net

OrgName: Rackspace.com
OrgID: RSPC
Address: 112 E. Pecan St.
Address: Suite 600
City: San Antonio
StateProv: TX
PostalCode: 78205
Country: US

However, the ilovebees.com server is actually in Rackspace's WASHINGTON, D.C. -area datacenter (probably actually in Virginia), not in Texas , as you can see by this traceroute:

%/usr/sbin/traceroute www.ilovebees.com

traceroute to www.ilovebees.com (69.20.126.147), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets
...snip...
13 0.so-7-0-0.GW6.DCA6.ALTER.NET (152.63.41.225) 38.897 ms 38.259 ms 38.030 ms
14 * * *
15 vlan903.core3.iad1.rackspace.com (69.20.1.40) 39.859 ms 37.948 ms 42.503 ms
16 aggr109a.iad1.rackspace.com (69.20.3.39) 39.494 ms 43.744 ms 38.530 ms

(DCA is alter.net's city code for Washington, D.C., and an alter.net router with DCA in its domain name is the last hop on the public Internet before going into a Rackspace network.)

This information has been posted here on the Wiki since July 27th.

There may be still be some significance to a lack of coordinates in Texas, but it's not because of ilovebees.com's physical server location - there is no question that the server that ilovebees.com "lives on" is in the metro-DC area.

EDIT: Moved to general. --AnthraX101

Veronica Mars

Ok... seriously... I just watched the pilot episode of Veronica Mars, and memories of ILB came flooding back... it's way too eerie how much Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell) sounds and acts like Janissary James (Kari Wahlgren)...
Almost for that reason alone, I feel suddenly hooked on VM :)
Strangely enough, Kristen looks exactly like I pictured Jan James, and sounds exactly like Kari... it's too freaky.

Anyone else watch Veronica Mars at all? I believe the first season is already finished...

if there ever is a tv or movie adaptation or continuation of ILB, Kristen Bell is definitely the girl to cast as Jan.
