[ARG] Sarah Kiddo Strikes (again)

Hey guys, "Sarah" here. Since starting up a xanga of my own, I've been thinking a lot about the potentialities of starting a game with xanga. I also wanted to show some of my friends what ARGing is all about. Sooooo, Sarah Kiddo got revived.

Whats different this time around? First, I promise it won't implode ;-) There's really no curtain this time around-- her site links directly back to mine. Also, a lot of first time ARGers are playing (as well as several bloggers who think she's real... Finally, interaction will be carried out on AIM later in the game, with more than one character.

If you missed the game the first time around, or just want to see how it ended, feel free to join the game. All you need is a xanga account, which takes maybe three minutes to make. Sorry I couldn't make a more interesting trailhead... but please drop by (we could use some people who actually know what an ARG is...

When Searching was "eaten" by Hunting, Hiding mentioned that without Searching he had nowhere to hide. My response was to create the Abject Vizier, an alter-ego with which to befriend Hiding, to "draw him onto pleasures" and "glean what afflicts him". As a mark of my friendship, I created a new hideaway for him, www.in-hiding.blogspot.com . A brief dialogue took place both there and on the Abject Vizier's blog, www.the-ziggurat.blogspot.com , but evidently PM Sarah was beginning to feel the strain, and replaced the Hiding Letters with a single post.

Just in case anyone was curious.

[RESEARCH] Roosevelt Island

In her last email to me, Sarah suggested we find out as much as we can about Roosevelt Island and why Gregory might go there. Hence this thread, a repository of trivia from which we can sift the wheat from the chaff.

Roosevelt Island was formerly known as Blackwell Island. In 1832, the New York Lunatic Asylum was built there, a penitentiary (prison) for the criminally insane.

Not that this has any direct bearing on Gregory over one hundred and fifty years later, but a little context never hurt anyone.

Some of you know I live in Sweden and that I am interested in mythology and ancient religion.

I KNEW I had read the name Lorelei before. I researched my books on the subject and found out that my suspicion were right.

Lorelei - Sarah's sister - is named after a beautiful siren who sat on a cliff above the river Rhine (Germany) and lured boatments and ships to their death with her wonderful songs.

That doesn't ring to well with Sarah going away to stay with her, or what do you think?

I might add that both Sarah and Gregory are names from european mythology too...don't quite remember which one though. I'll do some more research...

We know that Hiding is something/someone/a personality "in" Gregory. But...do we really know that or is that an assumption based on the fact that Hiding appears in that blog?

And today's theme is... analysis.

I don't know what is going on at MindsMines, but I don't like it. Rory had a very good point-- it might be better titled "The secret life of us"
As far as I can tell, there are three very different personalities posting on the site. I'm not quite sure how this power struggle will have an effect on my investigation, but... it might be worth looking into exactly what is going on with Gregory.

I've been keeping the note to myself for the past few days. You guys have done a lot, and I thought I'd try my hand at decoding it, to save you the trouble.
That was a waste of time.
My scanner is down, but I'll post it soon. For now... Here's how the letter starts off. I put in CAPS the letters Gran underlined.

Here's another bit of Gran's advice. She said, when you need to clear your mind, just go outside and walk. Don't worry about where you're going, let your body move you. As soon as you're somewhere new, a place you've never seen before, stop. That's your place to sit and think, with a new perspective.

I followed that advice today.

I learned quickly that DC is not an ideal place to let your mind wander, and decided that, beautiful as the fall foliage was, I could ignore it long enough to look both ways before crossing the street.

Still, I made an effort to wander, and thirty minutes later, I had found my place.

Roosevelt Island.

A month ago, I would have been struck by the beauty of the place, the island a reminder that even in a city like DC you could find a slice of nature, of paradice.

Now I know that place serves as someone else's paradice.

I turned around, and went home.

When I took up the investigation, less than a month ago. I had no idea what I was getting into.
I'm still not sure... but I do know I need help.

Hi all,

It appears we have deadlines to solving puzzles - if we don't solve a puzzle in a week then they give us the answers. Anyway, as you can see from the following blog entry, this is all very 'ILBesque', with the whole running away thing, so, I'll post up the blog entry, but will spoiler out the parts of it that ruin things for those that want to solve it (inkblots) themselves. You may need to copy and paste this, I've made it tiny for the unfortunate 56k'ers out there...

Letters to Myself
I finally did it. I made the trip to COREtech.
Oganized person that I am, I went in with clipboard and pen in hand, playing the perfect role of potential internest/visitor to my sister, depending on who asked. Under this guise, and keeping in mind what you guys told me, I went pretty much everywhere I needed to.
Let me begin by saying that COREtech is an extremely depressing place. Almost everything there is black, from the marble pillars to the tiny cubicles. There was plenty of light in the room, which almost made the black look cheery. It was the sound that got to me.
Any noise was muffled. Phones hummed rather than rang, everyone spoke in a whisper, and even the elevator chime seemed muted. Noise was simply swallowed up. I felt like screaming, which is odd for someone as rational as me. I can see how the place might, well... send you off the deep end.
It was slow going for my Investigation. In an environment where people are afraid to talk, its difficult to start up a random conversation about the company.
Once I made my way over to Lorelei's office, however, people's attitudes changed completely. Apparently my sister holds a better position than I thought; the girl gets respect.
She introduced me, and I began asking questions.
Here's what I learned:
COREtech has already signed papers allowing for a takeover by Troy. Though they crushed Troy a while back, Troy came out of nowhere with a new product that made them millions. Understandably, Gregory is in bad shape, as he must watch a rival company shift through all his company's information-- and in a place like COREtech, I would not be surprised to learn that COREtech had some pretty big skeletons in their closet.
I asked about an affair, but to no avail. There were rumours of one earlier, but if one did exist, it doesn't any more. I couldn't find out who the affiar had happened between.
COREtech does indeed have a path that leads to the island, but many people use it on their smoking breaks.
Gregory has been especially harsh these past few weeks, though it could be from simple stress.

I'm not sure how much that helps, but I'm sure some things there may prove useful later.

I've been considering giving up the Investigation. Its consuming time I used to use for school, for family. I check the pages whenever I can, hoping that new evidence will be found, and hoping that maybe, maybe MindsMines is finally down. Everytime there is a lag in posting there, well, it gives me hope.
As do all of you.
But, I'm not sure I want this to be my problem any more.
MindsMines is reaching out and touching you. I trust you, but... I would be careful.
Maybe its fate, maybe... there's nothing that can be done. What will happen if whoever is writing MindsMines gets stronger?
I don't have the answers, anymore.

I'd say we analyze them as we see them (a la rorshac) while also figuring out what they mean. A site which may help:

One of them looks like a man holding something, another one like an "L" with eight lines, and another like an urn with something on top of it.

I think our best chance of figuring this out is posting what we see and agreeing on what we think it may be. Then, we see how much of that is also on crystal links.
