I tried to open the 1907 map in JPHS, but it told me
"Unsuitable input jpeg file. Number of components must be 3, this one has 1."

The odd look is due to the paragraphs which are hidden inside the picture. I'm not sure whether or not they can be destegged, because I didn't try. They are perfectly visible in a text editor.
