Sure, PMs' friends appear regularly to shill in small games. But I think this is the first time it's happened in a large corporate-scale game, and certainly the first time I'm aware of that something...

You might want to look at past Ravenchase and ObieGame events, as both of those are locally-based puzzle-hunt/ARGy activities.
