I've used Audiopaint for making spectrograms from images... I haven't checked out Coagula, but it looks promising!

like I said, I don't believe it is an arg, or that they're hinting at anything 'starting up' again... I think it's just a fictional realm / art piece they like to 'play' in occasionally.
