Right off the bat people asked: Who are your film influences? Jeffrey: Many many individuals influence my art. When I was a little kid I had a realization while watching a movie in the theatre, basically films impacted me in a way that was emotional. Made me feel many different emotions and that type of impact wowed me and made me think like, man this means of communication is very charged, and it affects every aspect of who I am. How can this be possible that this art form goes to my beliefs and emotions to such a degree? From that point on, I knew I wanted to make films... -he also stated that he was not necessarily a Horror genre person, but he was heavily influenced by Alfred Hitchcock. Then people asked: What equipment do you use (Mac or PC)? Jeffrey: I use Mac's. I have always used Mac's for editing and general computer use, so you know, me and Mac's go way back. ZackFSCIR: How was your and Patrick's teamwork and cooperation during this Project? Jeffrey: Patrick and I worked together extensively throughout the whole thing. The thing we worked on allot was in making sure that what his vision was, and what I was filming was translating correctly from page to video. Along that line, we have a very good working relationship & there were no problems. Not only that, but we both had to make sure that the publishers vision of where the video portions of the project were leading were in line with what Scholastic was trying to promote and convey as well. NOTE 1: At this point I attempted to jump in and ask if there was an active Scholastic rep or producer on location or watching the dailies, and if so, how much creative control did that person have on the project? - The question was not conveyed by the moderator or answered hehehe - at that point about 20 people were spamming questions though, so you get the picture... Psysop: Did you change anything about the dredge (writing on walls, set construction / additions or whatever) to fit the story? Or was everything on the dredge left intact “as is”? Jeffrey: Great question, its very technical in nature. ummmm hmmm I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to answer this (nervous laughter). This is difficult...OK basically we had to work with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department through the filming. Discussions were based on what we could, and could not do to add elements to the dredge itself. Ummm...OK in short, the answer is Yes, we did do some things with the set, but I don't really want to get into what those things were because the production needs to keep a good working relationship with OPRD moving forward. I hope that answers the question though (dude giggles) NOTE 2: Then Questions were asked about if the Dredge was a truly scary place as a location & / or did you see any ghosts? Jeffrey: I can say that Yes, no doubt! The Dredge is an ominous and very very scary place to be. When you sleep in that thing, its very scary and difficult to deal with (laughs a bit). You hear strange unexplained sounds inside & out while sleeping there. Some very strange things happened while filming there as well. A good example of high strangeness is, we were filming one night and the crew was cleaning off the floor with water so we could start a cut. We went to go get towels to wipe the floor down and we were only gone from that specific area for like 30 seconds, we got back with the towels and there were boot prints in the water without explanation. No one stepped on that part of the floor during the prep. So yeah ummm very weird, we couldn't explain it & that freaked us out... People absolutely did not want to and refused to be in the dredge alone at night as well. You just get a very weird feeling about the place, very scary... NOTE3: I think Jeff also went into the fact that Bats were present on the dredge, and they arent the most appealing creature to be filming with heheheh. NOTE 4: Then people started asking if Jeffrey ever saw the "RM" journal with or near Patrick during production. Jeffrey: Umm yeah, Patrick had that thing with him almost at all times. I actually saw it at some point when Pat was not near it and from what I could tell; it seemed very out of place. In other words, my take is that it does not look like the type of thing that Patrick would write, its not in his style of writing. My perception is that it appears that he did not produce it, or it was given to him anonymously, but you know, I dont know about where that thing came from, so I cannot comment about it any further then that... Note 5: Questions about the SCIR website were asked. Specifically, if Jeffrey ever talked to Pat about SCIR. Jeffrey: I never talked about the SCIR content with Patrick and he never mentioned it to me as well. I have no answer about that site or the content. Question to Jeff: Did you create the Easter eggs on the Sarahfincher.com page? Jeffrey: No I didn’t create any of that stuff. I wish I did though (laughs) as I really liked the content and thought it was very well done. NOTE 6: I think at this point, Jeffrey went into who actually created the egg content, and I think it was one of the scholastic web designers (I’m not positive though). Jeffrey closed the v-cast with: OK umm my moderator is giving me the que to wrap this up. I would like to say that we just received a commitment from Amber Larsen, the actress that plays Sarah Fincher. She will be conducting a webcast interview on this channel, same day and time next week, Monday at 4:30 PM PST. I’m excited to see how that goes, so stay tuned everybody. V-cast goes offline... End Note from Psy: Some Author centric questions were asked, & from my estimation about 10-15 minutes of the Mod's and Jeffrey's time were taken by answering questions similar to "how long did it take you to write the scenes and dialogue?" - and of coarse Jeff's response to this sort of thing was "I did not write, Patrick is the author and has control over the content, with this project it is not my vision per se, its all Patrick and the vision from the book, I am a technical partner helping to convey the thoughts on film". And: "How many vids are in book 2", to which Jeff said stuff like "no comment, I’m not here to spoil". Other Users had very pertinent questions about the filming of the products as well, but in the chat storm (as I sort of touched on above), the format has the propensity to go wacky and get way off base very quickly heheheeh so Jeffrey did not get to all of the questions posed to him.
