Bureaux

PXCPD is home to some of the city's finest minds, all focused on upholding our motto: "to prevent and detect". In order to make best use of our officers' specialist skills, the Department is divided into seven bureaux:

Juvenile

We believe that a law-abiding society depends on instilling social values in our citizens at an early age. Our programme of school visits and educational initiatives is aimed at preventing crime now and in the future.

The Juvenile bureau divides its energy between prevention and reform. Our juvenile detention centres are not designed for punishment - rather, they try to teach a sense of logical consequence and responsibility. If offenders can understand the full social impact of their actions, they will become more orderly citizens.

The head office of Juvenile is in the Amandier precinct. With close ties to the University, it also operates in units across the city.

Property crime

Like it or not, theft and vandalism remain a part of life in Perplex City. Improved surveillance and stricter sentencing are helping to deter perpetrators, but when prevention fails, the Property Crime bureau pursues the case. Robbery, theft, domestic violation, vandalism, arson, DNS and viral attacks are all within the bureau's remit.

Property Crime works with departments and bureaux in every region to pursue offenders and bring them to justice. Headquartered in Alchemy precinct, our officers form a reticulum over the city's streets.

Crypto

Boasting some of the most advanced tech in any world, Crypto focuses on sophisticated code crime. Here, the emphasis is very much on prevention. Working alongside the Academy, the City Council and other defence authorities, we constantly strive to stay ahead of the development curve, heading off potential intrusions and attacks.

Of course, the quality of our tech would mean nothing without the fine minds in the bureau. Many of our senior officers have had distinguished Academic careers themselves, enabling them to outsharp even the most hardened crypto terrorist.

Fraud

Fraudsters are among the most subtle criminals we encounter. Our officers must therefore be skilled in crypto, tech and social engineering. Fraud prevention is a Sisyphean task, but our officers remain vigilant at all times, working with public and private sector organisations to improve security at every level.

The Fraud nexus is in the Stratus precinct, focusing on the city's financial district. Our alliances with banks, transaction providers and the major economic authorities allow us to maintain an overview of all significant monetary movements.

Violent crime

When an argument becomes physical, it becomes Department business. The Violent Crime bureau deals with physical and sexual assault, ranging from minor harm to comprehensive disablement and negligent death.

The bureau's officers come from a range of backgrounds, including medicine, pathology and the military. Weapons specialist are kept on standby at all times. Based at the Caldera precinct, Violent Crime recorded the most rapid decline in crime figures of any bureau in 268-269.

Homicide

Regrettably, the most abhorrent crime remains an issue in the city. Until the recent upturn in activity, Homicide has been able to concentrate almost exclusively on prevention, working with key developers and weapons manufacturers to minimise the risk of criminal death. Today, this specialist bureau must divide its time between deterrent and detection, investigating some of the city's most high-profile crimes.

Housed at Coldsea precinct, Homicide is the smallest bureau in the Department. However, its officers are among our most highly trained and experienced personnel.

Special investigations

Special Investigations takes on all cases falling outside the remit of other bureaux. Often, these involve complex crimes such as illegal drug importation, organised crime, terrorism, and imminent threats to state security.

The Special Investigations bureau necessarily liaises with governmental defence authorities and intelligence organisations. Its operations usually go unnoticed, but they underpin the security of every citizen.
