Complete Set of Cards

With a total of 256 cards to be released in all, what do you think the odds are of ending up with a complete set?

256/6 cards a pack = 43 packs
43 packs @ 2.50 GBP = 107.50 GBP
107.50 GBP x 1.8 (-> USD xchange rate) = $194.00

And that is assuming you get every card in 43 packs, you live near a store (no shipping charge) and don't trade by mail (stamps)!

It would be awesome to have a complete map of perplexcity, but I worry that the rarity of black and silver cards will boost their "market value" to untradeable.

I'm going to ask my dad for more work... or get a job. Who else is going for the full set?

well considering the exchange rate to Canadian plus shipping, my cards came to a nice total cost of $28.23 (from the £9.95 UK firebox price).

I live nowhere near a store, store assuming I buy 43 packs, that's a paltry $1213.89 canadian, no?

methinks I'll be happy with whatever cards I get Smile

I was actually worrying about this today. I realised that, without thinking, I've already spent £60 on cards, since it's too easy to just to go to Firebox and click the buy button. Seeing as I have 62 distinct cards, that's about a pound per card, not counting the cost of stamps for the trades I've done. Ouch.

My biggest worry is that the next wave of cards will be released mixed in with the current ones, making the full set even harder to collect (and probably getting even more copies of "Magic Numbers" - I have 6 now). If it starts getting too expensive, I may have to just stop playing. The chance of me finding the cube is about zero anyway.

Come on, it's not about whether you win or not, it's the fun playing. True, you are very unlikely to win, BUT, you should enjoy the game. You don't have to buy any cards. Stop opining, and enjoy the game!

I think its more than likely that the next wave of cards with include this lot of 66 as well as a new lot of 66 cards. That's why I've decided to hold out til the next release before buying more. If I bought another 2 packs (only have one at moment) then it would cover most if not all of the current set, but then I would get lots of doublers when I buy the next set. Besides, they only help you solve the puzzle of the cube so it's not necessary to get them all :p

Has anyone thought to email Mind Candy about whether packs for the next wave will also include this wave's cards? Do you think they would they even answer?

Someone at the London CubeFest could ask this question in person... If they don't answer we'd know it wasn't just lost in a deluge of email Smile

I'm not opining, and I am enjoying it. I never started playing with any notion that I'd win, if I wanted to play a game that was about nothing but winning I'd have spent my money on lottery tickets. Very Happy

It would be nice to get the complete set of cards though, just because of how collectable they are and how well they've been designed and produced. Oh well, it's only money...

As far as I can remember, those old Panini football sticker albums you used to get also gave you the opportunity to buy cards individually to complete the set.

Can't see Mind Candy doing that off the bat, but hopefully there's a chance they'll do it when the game winds down to help all us completists out there. Right, Mind Candy?

Cubefest answer...

The question of cards/waves was posed at Cubefest, and the answer, if I recall correctly was that the 0.5 wave contains the 66 which are out now, the next wave will have an entirely different set (not sure if they said it was another 66, or didn't specify a number).

After these two are out, they are looking at releasing later batches which include the ones already out now, along with new ones, together. Apologies if I've mis-paraphrased, but that's how I heard it. The video of the Q&A session will be online soon, so that should give you the complete unabridged version,
J

Yup:

The next wave of cards will consist of another 66, and will be packaged seperately, although the existing wave will continue to be available. During the third (and I speculate, final) wave, all the cards will be mixed up in packs together.

The PerplexCity.com site states:

Q: How many cards will there be in total?

A: The first season of Perplex City will comprise 256 cards.

The *first* season?!? Shocked

Yes, PXC is expected to have another set of cards for next year (or whenever we finish this "Cube" puzzle). From what I can gather PXC is going to be a continually evolving place with new challenges at every turn.
