One of the highlites of my day is reading over the same old ideas again and again. Sad I know but some of the reactions are priceless.

I also look forward to the battles between Ollie and the "guest" posters.

Anyway to get back to the point, The code is almost certainly RC5-64 Laughing

Links to other cards?

Oh, how I love those little fishies.

Any chance the 64/12/8, thought clearly linked to the RC5 encryption as well has to do cards 64, 12 and 8?

Longhorn brief thought

Don't know if it's relevant as the http://www.distributed.net/ link seems to solve the cows thing, but http://www.molecularexpressions.com/creatures/pages/fivecows.html seems relevant, the code name of longhorn was used for the development of Microsofts Windows Vista, which will be there next 64bit windows software release? Any thoughts?

This is my first post so be nice, i've read some of the other comments made to newbies.

I can't get the encryption/decryption software to load on my laptop but as we have the heads, has anyone tried the tails? the word 'sortails' is used in some of the 'the story so far' pages of the 'receda trail, and as far as i can read (my eyes did glaze over at some points) no one's tried it yet as the key. can anyone have a go? Question Idea

I'm going to be ultra-nice, shiny and cheerful and say that no, it hasn't been tried. If you have the card, feel free to do so. Anyone else who does can too, though I'd reccomend against it and instead suggest that everyone download the proper running client and try to solve this thing at face value. Which would also of course be the way Michael Smith (one of the guys behind the game) has already said it should be done.

You know, instead of supposing that a Silver card solve might actually be not only the answer to a simple riddle, but one we've already solved once before...

Note: if you're having issues running the client, these are likely solvable. I would suggest:

a) a post in the other 13th labour thread (which is far more focussed on this approach and the client)

b) a PM to Chimera who designed the client, detailing the problem you were having.

The decoded file for key 'cowfive' vaguely looks like a DBase 3 data file with memo(s) (1921978930 records). Unless this is text, or some graphic or sound file with a very short header, it's probably a red herring, but I thoguht it worth mentioning so you can do your own research (or ask for someone on the boards to do so). Thanks.

ok, don't know if this has been said before (not that ive seen) but i just scratched off the number on the card, so i could see how many people have failed this card, and i noticed that because the card itsself is a reflector type material, that when i scratched it the cardimage itsself started scratching off as well. anyone bold enough to scrach off an entire sivler type card?!

Why don't you try it and let us know what happens? Razz

(Totally just kidding--not recommended! It's just foil over paper, and it'll come off if you're too rough with it.)

There's no need to get the code to see the stats. Also, people have said that the silver panel on silvers can lead to the code being scraped off, the way the silvers are made is by printing directly onto foil, there's no point scratching all the paint off, you'd just end up with a piece of foil and a piece of card, and looking stupid.

I don't know about scratching it off, but someone attempted to put one in the microwave.

now that's funny!

this is going to bug me until i ruin the card...which i will NOT! but the shiny foil underneath the code is a much brighter color than the border... odd.
